Smoke
KADEN'S POV.
We all panicked immediately we saw Reece coughing out blood. Eileen, and Yrene dashed out of the ward, screaming for the doctor, while we tried to calm him down.
"Hey, slowly. Keep calm…" Ethan said, stroking Reece's back, while I held his hands in mine.
Finally, the coughing stopped, but Reece was as pale as a sheet of paper.
After a minute, the doctor came rushing in, and we moved backwards, giving him space to do his work.
"Jeez, this is fucked up." Eileen muttered to herself, with her fear turning to fury, with each passing moment. I only hoped she wasn't intending to track down the rogues, or something.
Finally the doctor turned to us, requesting we talked outside, and we all left the ward, while the nurses helped Reece clean up.
"What's wrong with him?" Ethan asked.
"He needs absolute rest at the moment. We don't want anything rupturing in him. It seems there was a slight tear in a stitched up organ. Please refrain from making him talk or laugh too much. He needs a lot of rest." The doctor explained, and we all nodded, agreeing to give Reece the rest he deserved.
Funny enough, the rogues didn't return to the pack that day. It felt like they had realized who they had almost killed, and ran off in fear.
Everyday, we brought in Reece's favorite food, and watched him take advantage of the special treatment he was receiving. We didn't say a word, nor stop him, but provided all the things he needed, even though they were silly. After losing someone, we had learned to cherish the ones with us, and appreciate their presence.
When it was time for Reece to be discharged, he insisted that we stay in our old house because he found it hard to trust all the numerous faces in the pack house, after what had happened to him.
Being at the house with just us four again, improved Reece's mood. It felt just like old times.
In days, Reece was walking all around restlessly, as he got better. Although he still tried to act sick, his healthy actions made his claims hard to believe.
After a while, we moved back to the pack house, where we had countless duties to perform, and luckily, it did not dim the light of Reece's cheerfulness. He joked about almost everything, including the attack of the rogues on him, and due to the fact that the rogues had not shown up for a week, we had concluded that they had fled in fear.
Little did we know that they were simply planning their next attack.
"Alpha Ethan!" A guard called, knocking on Ethan's door with urgency, and Ethan and I shared a curious look, before he went to open it.
The guard looked troubled, but bowed immediately.
"We just received news that an orphanage is being attacked right now." He reported, with his head still bowed.
"By who?" Ethan asked.
"The rogues." He raised his head.
"The rogues? They're back? Damn." He swore, and ran a hand through his hair. "Assemble the men. We're getting rid of those rogues today. Kaden, get Reece, and join me outside now." He ordered, and I got to my feet.
Who was backing those rogues? Because to me, their confidence was a lot. How dare they mess with us?
I left to get Reece, and met him eating a bowl of ice cream, while watching a comic, and laughing.
"Reece, the rogues are back. Hurry, we have to get them." I told him, picking up a shirt, and throwing it towards him.
"What? Damn them! They have the guts to return? Well today's the day they are trampled underneath my feet!" He threatened, looking like he was going to murder them the moment he set his eyes on them.
Well, I didn't doubt him.
Reece put on his shirt quickly, and we left his room.
As we did, I wondered if I was to tell Yrene, but decided not to, since she had been sleeping the last time I checked on her.
I would rather not bother her about stuff like that.
We left the pack house in groups, driving as fast as we could. At the same time, we were getting information from the men, who had been stationed there for other purposes.
We were told to hurry, as some innocent people were being brutally beaten to death, and the men who were taking the rogues on, were getting battered.
About twenty-four minutes later, we got to the orphanage, and stormed the place in our numbers.
The injured people all laid on the floor, and I deployed men separately to ensure they were taken to the hospital.
Finally, we found the rogues in the breakfast hall, and they turned to us.
Fear crossed their faces at first, but being rogues, who were used to fear, they hid it quickly.
I for one, was determined to bring the fear back to the surface.
I wasn't scared to start a little trouble, or see a little blood.

YRENE'S POV.
I could feel myself waking from the sleep I had been enjoying minutes ago.
Exhaustion had put me to sleep, so why was I waking earlier than I was supposed to? I needed more rest.
I tried to stop myself from waking, but realized a minute later that I wasn't just waking, rather, something was waking me.
It was the suffocating smell of smoke.
My eyes flew open, and I saw my room filled with smoke. Where was the smoke coming from? I sat up in bed, and swung my feet to the floor.
More smoke was coming in from my closet door, and I realized the room was on fire.
How could my room suddenly be on fire when I had been sleeping for a while? I didn't even have lighters.
My feet scuffled to the door, trying to open it, but it was locked.
"What's wrong with this?" I asked, still pulling the knob, and I began to cough.
I rushed to the window, but it was stuck. Someone had tampered with it.
The coughing got worse, and my eyes hurt. It was hard to breathe, and I felt like I was being tortured.
"Anyone!?" I shouted, running to the door, and hitting it with my fist, but it resulted in more coughing.
Then I left the door, rushing for my phone.
My hands found it on my desk, and began to dial Ethan's number, trembling, but it kept on ringing. Ethan didn't pick it. The same went for Kaden, and Reece.
Why weren't they picking you? No one was coming to help me.
I went back to the door, which my only hope, and yelled again.
"Someone help!" I screamed, kicking the door desperately, but no one came to my rescue. I screamed as loud as I could, but that only resulted in a large amount of smoke going down my lungs.
I began to choke seriously, and not long after, my head felt hazy. I had inhaled too much smoke.
Not long after that, I fell to the ground in a crumpled heap.
Passed out.
