Chapter 98 Weird Witches
ADRIANA
Five of them stood tall in the darkness, their full length gowns blowing in the wind dramatically.
I couldn’t see their faces clearly but their silhouettes were very outlined by the moon high in the sky.
“W-who are you? Are you them? My father’s cult?”
I heard a laugh that sent chills down my spine.
“No, we are not that useless band of vipers. You said you didn’t mind staying with witches as long as they were not ‘weird’, whatever that means. I don’t think we are ‘weird’ but we are witches.”
What? I didn’t mean that. I didn’t mean I actually wanted to stay with witches. I was only joking. Why was my life always like this?
So this was what Yara meant when she said I shouldn’t be scared.
If she could send these people to me, why couldn’t she lead me back to Elijah’s pack instead.
God, I hated myself.
“So are we going to go or we’re going to stand here all night? It’s going to rain very soon.”
“Shall we?”
That question was thrown at me. At this point, I didn’t have a choice. If I stayed out here, that meant I was fine with getting wet and not eating for however long I’m out here, not showering as well.
But if I chose to go with them, then it meant I was going to be living with five witches who could do what they wanted to me.
“Can your thought process be a little faster? I’m cold.”
“Sorry, yes I’ll come with you.”
“Good choice.”
I bent to pick up my bag and dust the leaves off it. At least, their house was going to be warm and there would be food and a soft mattress.
“Close your eyes, child.”
I didn’t even ask questions because there were certain things I didn’t want to know.
I felt a tingling in my skin and then a bright flash of light behind my eyes and just like that, it became dark again.
“You can open your eyes.”
We were no longer in the woods but from what I could see, there was no difference. It was just as dark and a huge house stood in front of us.
It looked like a mansion but for some reason, I couldn’t see anything except that structure.
“Don’t worry. You won’t trip. Come.”
As they walked inside, I took a moment to think about what I was about to do.
If I went in with them, that was my way of saying that I trusted them. If I didn’t, then I could turn right back around and drag my bag through the thick woods alone.
“Are you coming or what?”
Without wasting another moment, I dragged my bag after me rushing toward them as they waited for me to catch up.
“Sorry, I just didn’t want to be fried meat at the end of the day.”
I heard laughter but I was damn sure it didn’t come from one of them.
“If you were going to be fried meat, we would have left you out in that forest for the night. By morning, you would have been long gone.”
My heart dropped to my stomach.
“What do you mean? What’s out there in those woods?”
“Things you never imagined you would see. Let’s go inside. Your stomach is making too much noise.”
They led me inside and I was so confused at the things I was seeing around me.
“You will get a human room for the night with food and warm clothes. You deserve that much. In the morning, we will talk.”
Talk about what?
“Um, thank you for taking me in. I mean, I’m just a stranger and you helped me so thank you for that. I promise, I’ll be out of your hair as soon as possible.”
“Adriana, you are not a burden. If anything, we are privileged to have you in our home. Stay for as long as you want. In the morning, we will talk better.”
Privileged?
Well, they’ll say that now but at the end of the day, I always became a burden for everyone.
Ask Elijah how he feels about me now.
I decided not to let that bother me right now. I was going to ask what they meant by a human room and human clothes but something told me that I should just shut up and enjoy it.
“So where’s my room?”
“It’s where you want it to be.”
What in the world did that mean?
“Excuse me?”
“Just say where you want it to be and it will be there.”
So like a fairy godmother type of thing?
Very well then, they were witches after all.
I closed my eyes and wished to be standing right in my room already and I even imagined how I wanted the room to be, a recreation of my room back in Elijah’s house.
By the time I opened my eyes, I was alone but I was standing right in my room. How in the world did that happen?
Maybe being a witch wasn’t so bad. Everything in the room was the same and I was so happy about it.
Unlike outside, there was light in the room and I was thankful for that.
Maybe light was one of the features of a human room.
Being here again made me realize how much I missed being back there with Elijah and Leo. But it was for the best. I didn’t want to be the reason that Leo went to the hospital one day and he wouldn’t come out.
I wouldn’t be able to forgive myself if anything happened to him.
I had already done more than enough damage. The very thing that I’d said that I would help him with had been destroyed by my carelessness.
There was food on the table and as soon as I dropped my bag, I rushed over and began stuffing my face hungrily.
Everything was still so hot and tasty like it had just been made. I just hoped that was actual food and not some dead animal that had been enchanted into looking like this.
That thought made me lose my appetite and I dropped the remaining even though I was hungry and laid down on the bed.
It didn’t take long for me to fall asleep.
