Chapter 96 Calling Me
ADRIANA
“Why would this happen, Hazel? I mean, I didn’t mean for it to happen. I would never put him in danger on purpose.”
“It’s okay. I know. I know you wouldn’t.”
“Then why?” I swiped the tear away from entering my mouth. “Why would this happen? I told the maid not to make it a chocolate cake but she didn’t listen. I swear I told her.”
She used her sleeve to clean the tears away from my face gently.
“I know, Addy. I’ve told him that myself. Trust me, I know you will never do that on purpose. And I tried to tell him that but right now, I don’t think he would listen to what I have to say.”
“Is what he said true? Will Leo never truly speak again?”
She looked at me without answering and I knew the answer already from her silence.
There was nothing I was going to say at this time that would make Elijah listen to me. It was obvious that he was very angry and he wasn’t going to heed to anything that anyone said.
He said I had an hour so I stood up and cleaned my face, putting the last of the decorations into the bag.
“Where are you going?”
“He said I had an hour to leave. I don’t want him to come back and ask the guards to throw me out.”
She held my hand back firmly.
“I don’t think he will do that. You guys are mates. He’s just mad but I’m sure he will calm down. Don’t go, he didn’t mean what he said.”
But he did and I’d taken it to heart. I’d been the reason Leo was hospitalized. Every time he was left in my care, I always messed up.
“No, he did mean it and you know it so please, don’t try to make things better because they’re not. Leo will never speak again, Hazel. Didn’t you hear what I said? I have nothing left here. I should just go.”
I freed myself from her grip and went back to my room.
I didn’t have a lot of things. In the suitcase, I only put the clothes that I’d worn and left the fresh ones that Elijah had bought me.
“Where would you go? You can’t go back to your father, he’ll kill you.”
I would kill myself first before going back to that pack and giving him the pleasure of killing me. The fact that Elijah had captured Lisa was going to make him very mad since she was his favorite and I would suffer for it.
“I have no idea but I’m sure I will find a pack that’s willing to accept one more.”
She stood in front of me and stopped me from putting more clothes in my bag.
“Do you know how far you’ll have to go? Surrounding this kingdom are all packs under Elijah’s command so at the end of the day, you’ll still be in his kingdom. Just stay and don’t worry, I’ll talk to him when he calms down.”
For some reason, I didn’t want her to. I’d brought too much pain to Elijah and Leo and I just wanted to be out of their lives.
They deserve someone better who won’t put their lives at risk and almost get them killed twice. I wasn’t fit to be a wife or a Luna to Elijah and surely not a mother to Leo.
“Do you know what animals are out there or what’s waiting for you in the woods to attack you? You should be careful. Listen, if you don’t want to stay here anymore, I’ll take you somewhere. I have a friend in another pack and she won’t mind taking you in.”
I thought about that for a moment but I had to reject it. That would mean that Hazel would know where I was and I would still be in Elijah’s life. I wanted to disappear entirely.
It was obvious that our love story was doomed from the start so I might as well wake up from whatever dream I was having about him.
“No, it’s fine. I’ll find my own way around. I just want to leave and never come back. I don’t deserve to be here. I shouldn’t be here. I mean, it seems like I’m cursed and I don’t want anyone to suffer that with me. If I keep staying here, I’ll be like an outcast and I’ve suffered more than enough already.”
If I keep staying here after Elijah had already told me to leave, I was going to regret it. He would never speak to me and he would tell me to stay away from Leo which I would have to comply with.
Then, eventually the maids would stop serving me and speaking to me and then Hannah would make my life a living hell.
All that would be a recreation of my life back at my former pack and I didn’t want it.
So I might as well leave.
What was the point of staying here when he didn’t want me here?
“Adriana, why are you being stubborn? Aiden, talk to her.”
I had no idea Aiden had been standing by the door, listening to everything.
“Adriana, listen. You should know Elijah better by now. He would never say a thing like that on a normal day. He’s just very mad right now at the whole situation. Please, don’t leave because of that. You should be here to welcome Leo home.”
Hearing that actually made me stop packing. Leo would be the only reason I would stay here but even then, there would be other people here to welcome him home.
I should just disappear from his life once and for all. It would make things better.
“Yes, he needs you. The last time he was in the hospital, you weren’t there and he kept asking for you. The boy likes you, Adriana. He loves you.”
I finally sighed and looked up at them.
“You’re forgetting that I put him there. And I put him there again this time around so no, I don’t need another reason to put him there for a third time.”
I set my bag down and walked past them.
“Adriana, just listen to me.”
“Hazel, please. I don’t want to talk about this again. There’s nothing to say. This can’t work, I should have known from the start. Thank you for everything and you too, Aiden.”
I walked out the door and didn’t look back even though I heard them calling out to me.
