Chapter 360 Bib and the Betrayal
ELIJAH
I knew that I was the last person she wanted to see, but I still had to go see her. Now that things with Alisha were finally over, it was the right time to see her. Normally, I should have waited until she got enough sleep so that she wouldn't feel irritated when I woke her up. Her being irritated would just make things harder for us to talk out. But I was already at her door, and I couldn't go back. Wait, why couldn't I go back? She doesn't know I'm here yet. Yes, I should let her sleep and then come back in the morning when she's well rested.
As I turned my back to leave, I heard footsteps, and then the door opened.
We ended up looking at each other for a while, the silence stretching, thick with unspoken words, before I came closer to the door. "Hey, I thought you'd be asleep and I didn't want to wake you up."
She looked at me with her eye half open, her gaze sharp and knowing. "No, you knew I was awake. You were scared. Come in."
Of course, she knew. I stepped into the room and wondered if I had done the right thing because she could kill me in here and no one would know. I couldn't even sit because I knew we weren't on good terms.
I could see that she had just finished eating dinner, a tray sitting on her bedside table. What was I supposed to say? After all, I was the one in her room. She was just moving around, putting things away, while I just stood there looking like a fool. I should say something before she throws me out. I know she will.
"Was the food good?"
She didn't look at me, but she nodded. Great.
"I'm sure you're happy that everything is over right? I mean, you tried so much on this case. I have to give it to you." I thought that would make her talk about everything that she had been through, but she didn't say anything. I hated awkward situations like this, especially with her, because I know that she wanted to talk about it, but there was just no way for me to bring it up.
"Adriana, even on my deathbed, I will never give Leo's throne to anyone else. I thought I had made that clear to you, so why is it an issue now?"
Of course, that got her talking.
She turned around to look at me, her eyes flashing with anger. "Maybe you should ask your son how he feels about what you just said. You can't even look him in the eye and say that you don't plan on doing that because of what you've been doing. You're acting like I haven't given you a son before. I have given you two! Two sons! And we have another one. Your first son. But I can't understand what happened to you as soon as you found out about Lucien. So tell me, what the hell is going on?"
I was finally able to sit down on the bed because I knew that it was going to take a while for me to explain things to her.
"Something happened a few weeks ago, and I have reason to believe that Lucien had a hand in Lana's kidnapping."
It took her a while to understand it. She looked at me like she was waiting for me to explain, so she sat down. "W-What do you mean by that? What do you want to think? What did you see?"
"Lana's bib. Remember it wasn't there when we found her. It was in his room. I went in there to look for him one day, and I saw it on the bed. It was like he was taunting me. But I don't know. I don't think he was working alone." I know Simone had something to do with it, but there was no way that I could just come out and ask her about it because, firstly, I didn't want to spook her, and then also, I wanted to have evidence so that she won't be able to deny it. There was no way that Lucien would snitch on Simone, so I had to get the confession straight from her.
"I also had another DNA test done on Lucien. I needed to make sure that he's my son. I don't want to risk it."
She appeared dazed, and her mouth was a bit open as she stared at the floor like she couldn't think. "A-are you okay?"
She seemed to snap out of it, and she looked at me. "What do you mean by that? We got a DNA test done before. Why're you repeating it?"
"I want to make sure of it. Because if he truly is my son, it'll be harder for me to arrest him with Simone for the kidnapping." I'd thought the whole thing through, and it just got more complicated.
She was quiet, and her head hung low. I didn't know whether I should apologize to her for everything or I should tell her that it's never going to happen again.
"Elijah, tell me why I shouldn't go out and drag that bitch and her son by the hair and throw them out of the house. They had the guts to take my child?! I let him stay here!"
I had to move closer to her. "Please, reduce your voice. I know you're very angry, but I still have to find proof."
She stood up from her seat. "Proof?! Arrest the stupid bitch and get her to tell you the truth."
I wish I could do that. I needed to know why, why they would do something like that.
"Just leave it to me, I'll solve it. I promise you. I'll make sure that you're there to see everything."
It was like telling her to calm down just made her angrier, and she looked at me before getting up. "Screw patience." She stood up and went to the closet. I saw her pull something out, but I didn't see what it was. "I'm going to have a little chat with her."
