Chapter 359 The Final Word

Chapter 359 The Final Word
ADRIANA

“You were the one who packed up and left our three-day-old child in the hospital! You left me for over sixteen years, and you think that I won't move on? I shouldn't even be looking for you to begin with, but I did so that our son will have closure, and you blame me for loving a woman who had a very good heart and cared for me?” Tobias’s voice was raw, a torrent of years of pain and betrayal finally unleashed.

The whole thing was conflicting because, to an extent, I could understand what Alisha had gone through and how that had shaped her life, but what I couldn't understand was how Lucy got caught in her crazy web. The past didn't justify the present; it only explained it.

“It doesn't matter if I left. You can't fall in love with my best friend or the woman I've loved for years! It's not fair. On top of all that, you only used me for sex. I hated all of you. I hated you and I hated Tim. But I couldn't hate Lucy. She was just the victim in all of this. I was sure that if she could understand that I truly loved her, then we would be together. She was the only one who only ever understood me. She knew my story, she knew about everything that man did to me, and she told me that I still deserved love. There was no way you could fake that care. She cared about me and I knew.”

I didn't even have anything to respond to that. All I did was stare at her, wishing that she could be healed from whatever was wrong with her, from the sickness in her soul that twisted love into a weapon.

“Alisha, what happened in the cabin? Why did you kill Lucy?” I asked, my voice cutting through her rambling monologue.

She laughed, a dry, brittle sound that held no humor. “Everything that happened that day was a mistake. It all happened so fast, and I wish I could go back in time to change things. When I found out where she was, I went to the cabin.

“I saw the message that Sandy had sent to her about the pregnancy, and I didn't even know what came over me. It was like I wasn't thinking. On my way over, Tim called me to ask about where she was. I wanted to tell him that he should go fuck himself because of what he did to me, but I knew that I had a chance to finally ruin their marriage, so I told him that she was with Tobias at the cabin. She was surprised to see me at the house. I asked her if I could come in, and she agreed.”

If she had known, she would have told Alisha to get the hell away from her front door, because that gesture of hers alone led to her death. Alisha wouldn't have been able to kill her from outside.

Tim was sitting on the floor, crying as he heard all this. I couldn't imagine how hurt he would feel as he heard all these things about her. Now, it seemed like he should go back in time and find her and stop her from going to that cabin.

“Continue, Alisha. We can stay here all day just to hear your story.”

“Please, tell her to stop. It hurts too much,” Tim sobbed, his voice muffled by his hands. “Why did you have to do all this? Why did you have to kill her just to prove your love?”

Alisha walked over to him, and the guards wanted to stop her, but I signalled them to let her be. She stood over Tim, who was on the floor, and stared down at him, a look of contempt on her face.

“If I had told you that I loved her, would you have let her be? Would you have divorced her and allowed me to be with her? Bloody hypocrite. She was so happy about your baby, and she had the nerve to say it to my face that she was pregnant again. It was like she was mocking me, telling me to come kill the baby again. It made me angry. So angry. I asked her if I ever mattered to her and if what we had was ever real.”

She stopped and stared at the floor, and I could see that she was reliving everything in her head. How could she not? Everything that had happened in that cabin had been like the climax of her life.

“She said that I was crazy and that there was nothing between us. That I was making it all in my head and that I needed help. I didn't need help, I needed love. That's when she told me that she knew I was Tobias' girlfriend. I don't know how she found out, but she knew, and she said that she had called him here to tell him, and that I should beg him and go back to him. I just told her I loved her, and that was all she could say to me? It wasn't fair. Why didn't she love me? I couldn't let her tell Tobias the truth. It wasn't fair on me to allow her to ruin everything I had worked for, so when she sent me to the kitchen to get tea, I grabbed a knife. She didn't even see me coming. The last thing she said was 'my baby'. I knew that Tobias was coming, and I'd already told Tim to come. Very soon, one of them was going to come and see her body. But I didn't expect Tim to come that soon.”

Even though I already knew the entire story, I still couldn't wrap my head around it. Why? Why did Lucy have to pay for all this? There were tears in my eyes at the way Tim was crying loudly. I couldn't take it.

“I have one question for you, Alisha. Why Lucy? Why couldn't you love someone else? Why couldn't you find someone else out there who wasn't happily married? Why did you invite Tim for dinner when you knew you were in love with her?”

She looked at me, her eyes devoid of any real emotion. “I thought I could make her jealous when she saw me with him. I didn't know he had other plans with her.”
