Chapter 34 Tongue Out
ADRIANA
I should have just walked away and ignored her.
I knew she was looking for trouble and she wanted me to give it to her but I wasn’t in the mood.
She was clearly bored and had nothing better to do and that was why she settled for riling me up this morning.
“If it isn’t the new pack slut.” She said in a loud voice.
I didn’t answer her, I kept walking toward Elijah’s office.
“Where do you think you’re going? Do you really think that flaunting your smelly little self in front of him is going to get his attention? It’s really sad that you think that.”
In whatever war that Elijah was preparing for, he should make her stand in front of the battle line and wear raw meat on her neck.
It’ll be a quick and easy finish.
“What do you want this time around? Don’t you ever get tired of being you?” I gave her a blank look to show how completely uninterested I am in her and whatever this is.
She scoffed.
“Don’t even think that just because Elijah rescued you, then you can talk back to me. I will smack some sense into you and I would have done that if he hadn’t rescued you.”
I really needed to thank Elijah for saving me that day. Hannah would have torn me up to shreds on my second day here if not for him.
“And what deadly sin have I committed that you have to torture me with your presence?”
On a normal day, I would have enjoyed getting her mad because she just dug her own grave whenever she spoke to me.
If she was so damn in love with Elijah, then she should take it up with him and not me. I had nothing to do with it and it wasn’t my fault that he wasn’t interested in her.
Just when I thought that I’d gotten away from Lisa, I come here and meet another version, only this time around, she’s not my sister, thankfully, and I do not have to deal with her bullshit. Not exactly.
I also don’t get punished for anything I say or do to her. I can’t say much for her though. From the relationship I’d seen between her and Elijah, I can say that he’s not her biggest fan.
And I’m glad I’m not the only one immune to her bullshit and sick of her.
“I’m going to say this once and I’ll never repeat myself. Stay away from Elijah. He’s mine, he’s not yours and he will never be. Know your place around here or I will put you there.”
She would have been pretty if she didn’t have a horrible character.
“And what if I don’t?”
“Excuse me?”
“I said, what if I refuse to stay away from him? What are you going to do? Beat me up? I’d like to see you try.”
I knew I was pushing it but she pushed me first.
“You are asking for it. And you’re going to get it. Don’t dare me, girl. Everyone in this pack knows me and they know I’ll do what I say so you don’t want to dare me.”
Maybe it was because of what Betty had told me. I was in a very confrontational mood today so I stepped closer to her and made sure that the distance between us wasn’t more than two feet.
“Do your worst, Hannah. I dare you. All you do is talk and talk and talk and you can’t do nothing because you are nothing. You know how insignificant you are around here and that’s what pisses you off. No one cares about you and it hurts you, doesn’t it?”
I walked away, remembering that I had somewhere to be before she stopped me.
“You are wrong.”
“What?”
“You said I’m insignificant… you’re wrong. I am the sister of the former Beta and the only blood relative left of Leo aside from that scum mother of his. And we both know how important Liam was to Elijah and how very important Leo is to him so if he were looking for a suitable mate, who do you think he would go for?” she finished with a smile.
She had a point.
It was very obvious that Elijah took this Liam person very close to his heart. And him being with Hannah would just sum the entire family tree up.
I hadn’t really thought of this until now. But I wouldn’t let her see that I was considering it.
“Well, I think he will go for anyone else except you.” Her smile fell. “You know why? That little boy hates you. I’ve seen the way he is around you, he can’t stand you and as you said, Leo is very important to Elijah so I think he will go for the person his son loves. Even though unlike you, I’m not trying to be on Leo’s good side because I want to get into Elijah’s bed. I’m doing it because I like the kid.”
She was fuming. She knew it was true. I’d seen the way Leo was around her. He hid like a scared kitten and it upset me because she was supposed to be his favorite person.
“How dare you—”
“And the next time you stop me for this conversation about Elijah again, I’ll let you know that I’m not interested in him. That’s too bad for you because he’s not interested in you either. But you’re too oblivious to see that which just makes you even more miserable.”
Everything that I’d pent up over the years to say to Lisa was now coming out.
Her eyes were raised as if she was looking at something behind me and I turned around to see Elijah at the door of his office.
I wasn’t sure what part of my speech he had heard because he had a straight face and I was sure I saw him clenching his jaw.
Should I say something?
He walked up to us.
“Is everything okay here?”
Hannah was quick to answer.
“Everything is fine. Adriana was just expressing her sheer hate for you. I told you she didn’t deserve to be here.”
Of course she would say that.
“That is not true, I—”
He raised his hand.
“That’s okay. You wanted to see me?”
“Huh?” How did he know?
“You’re standing in front of my office.” He pointed out.
“Oh, yes.”
As we walked away from Hannah, I turned around to stick my tongue out at her and give her a little victory smile.
It was childish, yes. But boy did it made me feel good.
