Chapter 325 Find Her Phone
ADRIANA
“Twenty minutes isn't a lot of time to do all that.”
I brought out my phone and called Leo.
“Leo, I need your help okay? You don't have to be scared. I want you to help me go down to the dungeons and give Tim the phone. I need to speak to him.”
I thought he would refuse to do it. I didn't want to have to call Elijah. That was if he was even at home and not going around with his new son.
“Okay.”
I stayed on the line while he went down to the dungeons.
I needed to hear what he had to say about that day and not what he told the police. He had been under a lot of stress at that point and it was only reasonable that he would tell them what they wanted to hear just so that they would leave him alone.
Leo gave the phone to the guard at the gate so I could tell him to let him pass through and take him down to Tim's cell.
“Um mum, he's here.”
“Tim, can you hear me?”
Someone cleared their throat in the background.
“My Queen, yes I can hear you. Is there any problem?”
“Tim, I'm in the cabin right now. There are a few things I'm trying to understand. Like what happened when you got there. Did you see anything out of the ordinary?’
He was silent for a while and I could tell that he was thinking.
“No, she was already dead when I came there. I remember the house was scattered. I had to rush to turn off the stove because the kettle was on. Then I rushed back to her.”
The kettle…
I quickly looked through the case files and saw that there were two tea cups laid out on the kitchen island.
I'd forgotten that I was on a call.
“Was anyone in the house with you or did you see anything to indicate that there was someone there?”
No matter how much I looked through the case files, there was no other mention of the tea cups.
I looked at Hazel who was listening to the phone call with me.
“Get me Tobias and the officer on this case.”
What was the point of being on a case when you couldnt do your job properly?
“There was a bag and a key chain on the kitchen island when I went to turn off the stove.”
There was no mention of that anywhere.
“Tim, did you tell the police that?”
“I did… they thought I was lying and they wouldn't believe me.”
If they didn't believe him, then it meant that they didn't see it by the time they came. Meaning it had been moved.
“Tim, one last question. Was there ever a time when you left the house? I mean, after you came. Did you ever leave Lucy's body alone?”
“Yes, when the coast guard took me to handcuff me in his office and call the police. We left her alone.”
I thanked him and told Leo to go back upstairs. That was all I needed.
There was definitely someone in the house when Tim came but because he was so distracted by everything that he saw, he barely realised that and the person slipped away when the coast guard arrested him.
Since it wasn't Tobias and since Tim was already there, who else could have been there?
As Hazel Walked back into the room, I turned to her.
“Wheres Lucy's phone? They couldn't find it anywhere.”
Why would the perp take her phone?
“I’ll get someone to track her number. Tobias and the other man are already on their way.”
They both had some serious explaining to do. There was a lot of evidence in front of them. Why couldn't they just use it?
It was lazy work.
I went into the kitchen where a lot of things seemed to have happened.
All six tea cups were back in the cupboard and there was no way to know which ones could have been taken out.
I felt like I could lose it.
They came a few minutes later and I couldn't even wait for them to close the door. What was the whole point?
“I would start by saying how disappointed I am in the work you have done, detective. I mean, this is amateur at best.”
He and Tobias exchanged a look and Tobias spoke first.
“My Queen, please let us know what the matter is.”
I dropped the case files open on the counter.
“Just because you have a suspect you caught red handed doesn't mean that any other evidence goes out the window. Firstly, where is Lucy's phone? Did you find it or did you give up searching for it?”
Tobias couldn't answer that so he stepped back.
“We couldn't find it. We tried tracing her number. We traced it just into the city but before we could triangulate a particular place, we lost the signal.”
Whoever did this must have taken her phone. But why take her phone? Unless, there was something to hide on it.
“The tea cups, did you dust them for prints? The window, did you find out why it was broken? It was a holiday home. I don't think Lucy would have been fine staying with her like that. The cameras, did you check them? Did you ask around to see if anyone came to visit her that day? Or any other day in fact?”
There was only one answer.
“No.”
I didn't want to start bitching about it but felt like the only thing to do.
“Great, you've just let an innocent man die in jail.”
I could see the surprise on the detective's face.
“Then who did?” Tobias asked.
It was his audacity for me.
“It was your job to find out! Forget it, it's mine now. Find me her phone, as fast as you can. Drop everything you're doing and find me her phone.”
