Chapter 324 Recreate
ADRIANA
He wasn’t lying. It was obvious that she had used this to time her missed periods, fertility window and the time she'd get pregnant.
“That is not enough proof that she was cheating. We can only speculate. There are still a lot of loose ends.”
She was right.
“Why don't you look through their personal effects and I'll check through the house?”
I nodded and she left me in the room.
I was here to find out about Lucy's life so I would check her things first.
There were some papers on the nightstand. All they were were cards and random notes.
I looked through her clothing, hoping to find a safe or something that the police hadn't looked through yet.
I searched her entire closet but nothing came up.
Did Lucy have any secrets?
As a woman, if I had something to hide, where would I hide it?
The police had already been through this place and they didn't find anything.
Hmmm, maybe I should read the case files. Maybe then, I'll have a better picture of what happened.
“Hazel, can I see the case files? I need to know exactly what I'm looking for. I feel like I'm on a witch hunt and I don't even know what I'm doing.”
The case files were on the table and I didn't know if I could sit down on the couch since technically, it was a crime scene.
Not where she had died but related to her.
It stated that Tim called her, just as he said he did that day. He said he'd forgotten his drugs and he wanted to ask her where it was.
He couldn't get to her so he called Alisha. She was the one who told her that she was at the beach house with her lover.
The next page was the crime scene photos. Pictures of Lucy in her own pool of blood. The knife was still in her neck.
She was such a beautiful woman. Even in the photos, I could see that a light had gone out.
The coast guard said that he had come in and seen Tim with his hand on the knife, kneeling in front of her.
Just because he caught him there doesn't mean he did it. He still had to be proven guilty.
There were other indicators that there has been foul play.
There was a broken vase, and some things were out of place to indicate a struggle.
Could they have fought before he killed her?
There was a broken teapot.
When the police searched the house, they couldn't find any indicator that there was another man living in the room.
Even when they searched the cameras, everything had been wiped clean and there was no footage of that day.
“Seems like the perp went through a lot of stress to cover his tracks. Almost like he knows what he's doing.”
She looked up from what she was doing.
“Almost like someone who has done it before or has knowledge.”
I tried to understand what she was saying and finally figured it out.
“You think Tobias has something to do with this? I thought we already knew that he's innocent.”
There was broken window glass on the floor but no broken windows.
“Did the police check around for prints? Or did they just assume that Tim was guilty?”
I looked through the file to give her an answer.
I finally found one on the fourth page and read it out loud.
“Okay so, they did find another set of prints but they couldn’t compare it to anything. They were scattered around the house meaning the person moved around.”
If they were scattered around the house, why on earth couldn't they find out who it was?
Hazel finally joined me.
“This won't do. We need to go to the cabin. We need to map out what exactly happened that day.”
I followed her outside to the car and waited while she closed up the house and the gate.
“Tim has spent enough time in jail. I don't want him to spend another month here so we have to do everything as fast as possible and get him out. Prove he's innocent and then find the killer.”
I kept looking over the case files and realized that there were so many inconsistencies with what they found but since they found Tim at the scene, they immediately thought they had found their killer without even bothering to see if he was actually guilty.
We eventually got to the house and Hazel took off the yellow police tape.
“Let's recreate murder.”
We opened the door and I just stood outside, not believing that this was where everything went down. Where she once was, not thinking that she would never be able to go back home.
The cabin was much more different from her home. The arrangement, the decorations, it was like two entirely different people had worked on it.
I brought out the case files and looked at her body laying, trying to place a marker on it. I finally realized that I was standing where her head was and I moved aside.
I placed another marker at the broken window.
The police had already taken most of the things away but I just wanted to see if I could recreate the crime scene.
“Tim said he came in to see that she was dead. At what time did he call her?”
I looked through the files. It was twenty minutes past twelve.
According to the coast guard, he found them at forty minutes past twelve.
“Hazel, how long did it take for us to get her?”
She went silent, thinking about it.
“Give or take, forty minutes. How long did Tim take to get here.”
“Coast guard found him twenty minutes after he called Lucy's phone.”
We were thinking the same thing.
“I don't think it takes twenty minutes to get here, argue and kill a person.”
