Chapter 314 Strict Queen

Chapter 314 Strict Queen
ADRIANA

Could this day get any worse?

I was officially arrested.

As I stood, holding the placard that held my name, age, height and crime description, I knew that I now had a record.

This was not how I planned for this day to go.

“Next!”

Hazel went next and they handed her the placard.

A female officer came.

“Come with me.”

She led us to our cell.

“This is where you'll be spending the night. I know it's not a lot but please, manage it. By tomorrow, they'll be taking you to see the commissioner. I would advise you to call the best lawyers or else, you'll spend the rest of your life in jail.”

I looked around the cell and I didn't like how messy it was looking. It smelt terrible and there were two other women passed out drunk in the cell.

They had thrown up and it made bile rise up in my throat.

How was I going to survive the night?

“Do you need anything?”

Yes. To die.

“Please, can you change her cell?. She can't stay here. I can stay here but she can't and can you get her a blanket and pillow? I don't know if that would be hard for you.”

The officer looked at us and I expected her to laugh but she did not.

“Why are you looking out for her but not yourself? Don't you need a pillow too?”

“I’ll be fine. My duty is to make sure that the Queen is fine first. As long as she's comfortable, I don't have an issue.”

There was that look again.

“I heard you say that to the other men and they laughed at you. Stop saying that, you'll get yourself in trouble with the Queen. I hear she's really strict.”

That came as a shock. I was not strict. Or was I?

Someone shouted something behind her and she looked scared.

“Listen, I can only change one person from this cell. Not the both of you. Is that okay?

Before I could answer, Hazel did.

“Yes, it's perfect. Just take care of her.”

I finally managed to stop her.

“Can you stop? I'm not leaving you. What if something happens to me, who will I call for help? We came here together and we're going to be together.

She gave a smile to the lady before turning to me with a frown.

“Are you crazy? The King would kill me for letting you get arrested and what if these ladies attack you? What will I say when he sees you getting injured? I'm not ready to die. Please, just take the cell.”

I could understand her but these ladies won't attack us and as much as I don't want to be here, I don't want to be away from her either.

“It’ll be fine. Officer, you can go. It's going to be okay. I will still take the pillow and blanket though.”

While Hazel was busy expressing her discontent with my decision to stay here and allow her get in trouble, I took a bite of those I would put in trouble when the time came.

That was when it occurred to me that she was the only female officer here. It's no wonder she looked so gloomy.

When she passed, some of the men would smack her ass or grope or assault her in one way or another.

I wonder how she could stay here and take all this. Why couldn't she just leave?

Eventually, she brought the pillow and blanket and I used that chance to ask her why she must work here.

“To prove a point to them. I'm gathering a case against them already. I'll take it to the King but I need enough proof first. The whole chain is corrupt but they won't bring me down. I'll make sure I get back to all of them.”

She didn't even need to gather evidence. My eyes were more than enough of a witness.

I'll throw these bastards in jail myself.

“I’ll take care of this myself, you don't have to worry.”

She walked back to her seat and I dropped the blanket on the pillow next to Hazel.

“I guess it's our first night in jail together. What do you think of the experience so far?”

She didn't want to laugh but because I had used my hand as a microphone, she couldn't help it.

“Only you will find a way to make a joke out of this.”

I didn't think that we'd be getting any food from these men tonight so I'm guessing it's a good thing that we decided to get something to eat in the afternoon.

“This is not how I thought today will be.”

Well, me neither. But oh well, such is life.

“Have you tried speaking to Elijah?”

Maybe we weren't in the same cell. Maybe I was with a clone.

“Do you have your phone? Because I sure as hell don't have mine. Maybe we're not in the same state.”

She rolled her eyes.

“I didn't ask for your sarcasm. What I meant was, have you tried mindlinking him? He's not responding to me.”

Well, he hadn't responded to his calls this morning so I didn't know where he was or what he was doing.

All I knew was that he needed to come save us from this place because I couldn't spend another night here.

I tried again to get to him but there was no response.

“Well, if you thought I was going to have any luck, you're wrong. He's not answering either.”

That meant that by tomorrow, we were going to be sent to the commissioner who thought we were trying to kidnap his son.

Well, whatever the case, it would be a win for us because we already had plans to see him.

“Get some sleep, Adriana. You need to rest. I'll keep watch. Don’t worry.”

I knew that I owed Hazel my life. And I was going to find a way to pay her back.
