Chapter 149 Finally! It's About Time

Chapter 149 Finally! It's About Time
ELIJAH

“Elijah, there’s something more we need to tell you. It’s about your mother.” One of the sisters said.

I didn’t even know if my mood darkened or if I got excited at the mention of my mother.

“What about her?”

These women were the only ones who knew where she was and if she was still alive. I held on to the thought that I would see her again one day but I wasn’t so sure. It was just wishful thinking.

At this point, I didn’t know if I was being stupid or hopeful.

“Your mother is our sister and we swore to protect you from everything that may try to harm you as long as we lived. We gave your mother a promise with our blood. And we have kept that promise till this day. Your mother is back, Elijah and she wants to see you.”

For some reason, my heart dropped in my chest and my arms hurt. That meant my mother was still alive. My mother, who I thought was dead, was alive.

My mother, who had abandoned my father and me was alive and well now, she wanted to see me. So many years after his death.

I couldn’t even process what gave her the guts to even think she could come back into my life and think that things could go back to the way they were.

“Where was she? Where was she all these years when I grew up alone because dad died? Where was she when I needed her because I was a scared little boy who was going to become Alpha the day after his father died?”

I may have missed her but I was no longer a kid and I couldn’t control my feelings which was why her coming back into my life right now wasn’t exactly dreamy to me.

“You must not hate her, Elijah. She is your mother.”

“Mother? Mothers don’t abandon their kids. Mothers don’t leave their children to fend for themselves just after giving birth to them. I don’t have a mother. I just have a woman who gave birth to me. You guys were more mothers to me than she could ever be, so before you talk to me about her being my mother, ask yourself what she has ever done to deserve being called that.”

I missed her a lot while growing up and now that I had finally grown up and was about to have a kid of my own, I’ll make damn sure that I don’t abandon them along the way. That’s not what parents do.

“Listen, I don’t want to talk about this. It’s upsetting me.” I grumbled, ending the conversation there. I didn’t know if they were done with it or not, I was.

“Elijah!” I heard Hazel shout.

I ran to check on her. My heart thudding in my chest, the worst case scenarios once again playing on my mind.

“She’s awake!” She screamed when I got to her.

What?

I turned back to check on the sisters and of course, they weren’t there so I ran with Hazel to her room and she was seated in the bed, holding her head in her hand.

As she heard my footsteps, she raised her head up and smiled at me and I couldn’t help the way I ran to her and pulled her into my arms.

“God, I’m so happy you’re here. I’m so happy nothing worse happened to you. You don’t know how much I wished I didn’t let you go that day.”

She patted my back.

“It’s alright. I’m fine now. It was hard at first but I’m fine now. It’s going to be okay.”

My heart that had been feeling these past few days was light now.

“There’s something I want to tell you. And I don’t know how you’re going to react.”

I patted down her hair.

“Is it about the baby?”

Her face lit up in surprise.

“You know? How do you know?” I gave her hand a squeeze, smiling at her.

“The doctor told me when he ran a test on you. You’re carrying our baby, Adriana and I don’t know how to thank you.”

Tears filled her eyes.

“I thought you wouldn’t be happy about it. With everything that’s going on, I didn’t think a baby would be right.”

“As long as it’s with you, I don’t mind it. Every time is the right time.”

I would take care of her and the baby as best I can.

“Leo would be so happy to hear that he’s getting a younger sibling.”

She laughed and nodded.

“Yes, he will.” I joined her, thinking of that little man.

Her expression turned sombre, which worried me a little. I asked if everything was fine.

“I wanted to speak about the proposal.” Her eyes were soft as they searched mine. “I’m so sorry I turned you down. I didn’t mean to hurt you. The only reason I did that was because I didn’t want to hurt you in case something happened to me. I needed you to be able to move on for your sake and for Leo’s. He’ll need a mother and you’ll need a Luna.”

I was already shaking my head before she finished talking.

“I don’t need anybody besides you. Even if something happened to you, I’ll never leave you, Adriana. You are my soulmate, my wife, the mother of my children and the best thing to ever happen to me. I can’t have anyone else but you.”

She reached up and touched my face gently, her fingers tracing the line of my jaw. “I love you so much, Elijah. I’m sorry for everything I put you through. I was scared and I thought I was doing the right thing by pushing you away. But I was wrong. I should have trusted that we could face anything together.”

I leaned into her touch, closing my eyes. “We’re together now. That’s all that matters. And when you’re ready, I’m going to ask you again. And this time, I hope you’ll say yes.”

She smiled through her tears. “Yes.”

I pulled back to look at her. “Yes?”

“Yes, I’ll marry you. I don’t want to wait. Life is too short and we’ve wasted enough time already. I want to be your wife, Elijah. I want to raise our children together and grow old with you. Yes, I’ll marry you.”

I kissed her then, pouring all my love and relief into that kiss. When we pulled apart, we were both crying and laughing at the same time. Hazel stood in the doorway with tears streaming down her face, smiling at us.

“Finally,” she said. “It’s about damn time.”
