Chapter 100 Help and Protect You
ADRIANA
When I woke up, the sun’s rays were pouring into the window and directly into my eyes, warming my face.
It was so hot and I was so damn sure that the rain that had made me come with these women didn’t end up falling at all.
I sat up on the bed and thought about my life for a moment before getting up to use the bathroom.
It took me a moment to realize that I had been waiting for Leo to run into the room like he always did.
As I took my shower, I wondered what they wanted to speak to me about. They said they weren’t weird but that was what they always said before they stuffed you in a pot and cooked you while singing the song about the cauldron.
I’d read too many books as a child and it was messing with my head now.
Since I had let my imagination run wild last night and ended up ruining my own appetite, my stomach was already rumbling loudly by the time I came out of the bathroom.
I put on my clothes and made my way out, not exactly knowing where I was going. Since it was day, I could see things clearly now.
It didn’t seem as scary as it seemed last night. It looked like a normal house. But just an old house.
I didn’t want to know how old these women were because I had a feeling I would regret asking.
There was no one around as I walked through the hallways and I saw a flight of stairs and decided to go down them.
I could have sworn that we had been standing on the ground floor last night but how I ended up here, I had no idea.
When I got to the next floor, there was absolutely nothing there. Just bare walls with nothing hanging on them and no doors anywhere.
Talk about weird things. What was all that about?
I kept walking down the stairs and then I finally saw rooms.
Five rooms lined side by side at one side of the hallway.
These women actually said they weren’t weird?
What a joke.
I was sure this was their sleeping room.
I should probably mind my business and be on my way because sometimes, some things are better left unknown.
I finally got to the end of the stairs and back to the ground floor where I had been last night.
“You’re up early.”
I let out a small scream and turned around. All five of them were standing there again.
Now, I could see their faces properly in the daylight.
They didn’t look a day older than thirty. And they all looked like photocopies of each other.
“What in the world?”
“What is it? Do I have something on my face? I dressed up in the dark today.”
“No, it’s not that. You look like the same person and you’re all wearing the same clothes and the same hair and—”
I heard that same laughter again and this time around, I was sure that I wasn’t losing it. None of their lips moved.
“That’s because we’re sisters. Quintuplets to be exact.”
I scoffed.
“I have a sister and we look nothing alike.”
Her face scrunched up in disgust.
“Yeah, nasty little thing, that one.”
Sounded like Lisa to a T.
“You know her?”
She opened her mouth to say something but someone stopped her.
“Claudia, seal your lips and wait till we are seated. My knees hurt.”
They left one after the other and I followed them until we got to the living room. Their house looked pretty normal. I was expecting something aside from this. It looked like a normal house.
“So what do you want to speak to me about?”
For some reason, I was excited to speak to them and it bothered me.
Someone other than Claudia spoke up.
“You know who you are, don’t you?”
I knew they weren’t speaking about my human self.
“Not so much. My wolf enjoys keeping information from me so I don’t know a lot.”
“That’s why we’re here. You can’t blame your wolf. It’s her duty to keep you safe as much as she can and if anything happens to you, she will be blamed.”
I understood that part but that didn’t mean that I didn’t deserve to know something when I asked. This was still my life after all.
“That’s fine. I understand that.”
“Do you also understand what you are here to do? Why you were made? Your destiny goes beyond destroying the Antil Cult, Adriana. You are one of the special ones and we’re here to help you.”
Very soon, I was going to lose it. But I let them keep speaking.
“For the fact that you have lived for long alone, is a sign that something good will come out of you this time around. We have tried time and time again to keep the special wolf safe but somehow, the Cult always gets to them before we do. This time around, your wolf was smart enough to protect you.”
Lived for this long? I had barely lived.
“What did you mean by lived for this long? How long was I supposed to live for?”
Claudia spoke up seriously.
“Some special ones didn’t make it past birth. Some of them didn’t make it past their shifting because we hadn’t discovered that it was their wolves that helped the cult track them down. For centuries, we have been trying to protect the next special wolf that comes and thankfully, Yara is very smart that it took us a while to locate you and now that we have, it means that they can too.”
My heart dropped at the sound of that. So could any other person find me now?
“I can’t let them find me. I can’t give my father the privilege of letting his cult kill me. If he kills me, everything would be for nothing.”
“Don’t worry, we won’t let that happen. As long as you’re here now. We will help you understand who you are. The goddess led you to us and we would die before letting those men get to you.”
