CHAPTER 31
XYRUS POV

My ears picked up every sound as I made my way towards the hallway but I halted in my footsteps when I sensed her. There is no way I am going to miss that unique scent. Valeria is outside and the excitement that rushed to my dick actually pushed me to make my way towards her when I suddenly sensed something amiss.

Two heartbeats.

She is not alone and the second person is none other than Vance. I wanted to advance towards them but then my phone rang. Elder Maddox is here in the palace waiting in the courtroom.

I decided to turn back instead and make my way towards where he is. There is no way something will happen between Valeria and Vance now.

On getting to the courtroom, Elder Maddox stood before the throne while I made my way towards it. I sat on the throne and beckoned Gareth to come in through mindlink.

Gareth came in with the maid and the moment they got to where Elder Maddox was, his eyes widened.

“It seems like you recognise it,” I said while the maid placed the candle on the floor and went on her knees.

“M…my king” Elder Maddox stuttered and fell to his knees in front of me.

“Why would you do something like this?” I asked, clearly not liking the way he had already admitted that he orchestrated the plan.

If I didn't notice last night, I might take advantage of her not knowing that she doesn't want me.

“The elders concluded we do this because they want an heir. We only want the night to be memorable for you. It's your first night with the future Luna” Elder Maddox confessed.

The fact that he didn't act alone sparked a reaction in me but I tried not to act on it. The elders came together and agreed to this. They all wanted me to consummate the marriage right away.

“But you know clearly that we aren't mated yet. Why can't you wait?” I asked Elder Maddox and he squeezed his eyes shut.

“Have mercy, my king. We didn't know it would make you angry. We meant no harm.” He said and bowed his head until it touched the ground.

That already showed how remorseful he was and I a left with no other choice than to let him go. I am well aware that everything they did is for the kingdom.

“You are dismissed,” I said and Elder Maddox heaved a sigh of relief before standing up.

“Thank you, my king.” He said and left the courtroom.

“Gareth, take the maid back to the dungeon. She needs to learn her lesson not to obey anyone's order but mine.” I said and the maid burst into tears as she began to apologise but that's not my concern right now.

“I am sorry my king. My king! Please have mercy.” She cried out while Gareth dragged her away.

I stepped down from the throne and made my way towards the towering window. I looked outside and my eyes caught a familiar figure. I looked closely and I recognised her back instantly.

“Where did you say Valeria is?” I asked Gareth when he came back.

“She isn't in her room right now. I believe the guards said she was spotted walking with Vance.” Gareth said and I looked closely. My eyes zeroed in on who she was with. It was Vance again.

“Shit!” I cursed and rubbed the bridge between my brows.

“I will be back Gareth,” I said and stepped back.

“Sir. You will still be having a meeting with Alpha….” Gareth began but I cut him off.

Nothing is important right now than trying to get closer towards Valeria. She is like a thorn in my flesh and it baffles me that my wolf is just as eager as me. He is not pleased seeing Valeria with Vance.

“Let it wait. He should get here before 5 and there's still time.” I told Gareth.

“We still don't know what he is going to demand. He is up to no good.” Gareth pestered.

I nodded he is right but I know what Alpha Aiden is after. “I am sure he is curious to know who I am getting married to. Here to find a weakness so let him come.” I said and stepped out of the courtroom.

My steps faltered when I got closer to where they were. I could have concluded that nothing was wrong until I saw Vance move closer to Valeria.

They were talking and my ears picked up every sound. I sent signals to Corven and he flew towards them. The two stepped back when Corven flew towards Vance and Valeria's face flushed with surprise when she saw me.

When I confronted them it was Vance who eventually left while Valeria looked at me with so much confidence in her eyes as if she didn't do anything wrong.

“If you crave a company that much, you can just call one of the maids to do that. It doesn't have to be Vance.” I said even though I didn't necessarily mean it that way.

But she is not a kid to not know Vance is actually throwing advances at her. I expected her to dodge but she didn't.

My eyes didn't miss the way the dress hugged her figure, making me aware of her feminine features and her breasts beckoned to me.

“You can't dictate what I need to do to you. I can stay with Vance.” She said, looking at my face. She is bold and it is not a trait every woman displays when they are close to me.

“We both agreed not to pry into private matters” she added and I took a step towards her.
She looked at me defiantly, not backing away.

“And this is no private matter, Valeria. Not when you almost allowed him to kiss you.” I said and her face was marred with shock.

I doubt she was expecting me to say that but I already did that. She chuckled then smiled.

“Yes. We were going to kiss and what is so wrong about that?” She asked and that was when I lost it.

I closed the rest of the distance between us. She tried to take a step back but it was too late, my hands circle her waist and I pull her towards me.

She almost gasped but she swallowed it back. Her eyes were the prettiest I have ever seen. There is something dangerous about her even when she is just a lowly omega.

She is not even supposed to be close to me but the elders made it happen. They believe she is the right fit for me.

And they were right. In the long run, if I am not careful, she is going to be my weakness.

“There is something you don't understand about Valeria.” I began and my other hand moved towards her delicate slim waist before tracing my hand up to the side of her breast.

She stiffened and my wolf grew restless inside me. Intriguing.

Her heart beat skyrocketed as she looked at me.

Why act as if she is pure when she is the same woman who dances for me in the club?

“You belong to me in front of everyone and if you are going to do something so outrageous, you will need to do it in a secluded place,” I told her and she set her lips into a thin line before parting them

“You mean, just like the way you fucked Adelina? Of course, I will do that.” She said and I wonder how she already knew about that

Could it be Vance who told her all this?

“Are you jealous right now?” I asked and her cheek flushed pink. I am not sure if it was out of embarrassment but she looked so adorable like peaches.

“What?” She burst out with her eyes widened.

“Why would I be jealous of her when I know nothing about her?” She said and I want to believe that. It will be good if she actually hates me this way.

One thing she should never trust me with is her heart.

“But I could see it clearly in your face. You can just fuck anyone if you are that affected but it shouldn't be Vance. He is going to hurt you.” I told her even though it was all a lie.

No man dick can actually get close to Valeria. She will have to watch me bury them right in front of her and Vance is not an exception.

“And I don't bloody care about what Vance is going to do to me.” She said and I didn't like the way his name rolled out of her tongue

“I will keep to the contract but if you keep intruding, I will have to believe that you didn't want this open marriage after all.” She said and I let her go.

She is stubborn and I doubt she will be a weakness for me. But one thing is clear, there is more to her.

“I would like to excuse myself. Lady Eliona actually wants to see me today,” she said and I let her go.

I scoffed and kept my hand to my side. I looked at her retreating figure, even the way she walked feels so angelic and there is this dangerous raw hunger in me that wants to claim her.

How many men has she danced for?

I think I need to do a more thorough background check on her.

“Come out of your hiding,” I said and the crow flew back towards me.
