CHAPTER SIXTY - MARICELA

CHAPTER SIXTY - MARICELA
The door is all but ripped from the hinges.

A scream leaves my lips but as quickly as it does, someone is there, no something, wrapping their claws over my mouth. Silencing me.

I whimper, as his massive weight presses into my body. In Lycan form, he’s even bigger, even more powerful and he completely overwhelms me.

He growls in response, and I tremble more. He pulls the covers off, rips them from me and I lay there, in just a pair of shorts and tank top, petrified as this beast stares down at my exposed body.

I want to say something. I want to beg. To plead. But his paw is still covering my mouth and those razor sharp claws mean I’m not even going to even attempt to pull myself free.

He starts sniffing, lowering his face to mine, breathing in my hair, my skin, all of me.

My Wolf screams in my head as if this moment is for her and not me. But she can’t come out. She’s stuck, forced to enjoy this vicariously and I, meanwhile, am falling apart.

And just as I think I can’t take anymore, he slumps beside me. His massive form laying as if he were exhausted by this all. But his eyes, his piercing eyes are fixed on my face.

And for what feels like forever he just lays there, panting, staring as if utterly transfixed.

Slowly, cautiously I lift my hand and as he watches, I touch his fur, touch his paws too. If I wasn’t so afraid right now, I’d probably be enjoying this moment. Afterall, his Lycan has come to me and that has to mean something, doesn’t it?

He nuzzles into me. Those claws retract and he wraps his limbs around my body like he’s laying claim to every inch of me.

“Adriel.” I murmur.

He lets out a low noise which sounds somewhere between a growl and a purr.

“Why are you here?” I ask. He really thinks he can just fuck Lia and then come to me? What the hell.

He doesn’t reply. But then how can he? He’s in Lycan form and we aren’t yet able to mind-link.

Instead, he just lays there, watching me, as if he needs this moment so desperately. That bond between us twists and my heart feels like it’s actually breaking with the awful emotions he’s experiencing. I don’t know whether to feel sorry for him or to fear him, to fear what he might do in response.

Slowly, as my adrenaline drops, as my nerves ease, I start to believe that maybe he won’t hurt me right now. Maybe he just wants this, whatever this is.

I drift off. I don’t know when, but I wake to the feel of a hand stroking my cheek. I blink opening my eyes and it’s not the Lycan lying beside me. It’s him. Back in human form.

I stare at him for a moment and then, as I properly wake up, I realise that he’s naked. Completely naked. As quick as I can, I jerk out of his arms but he grabs me and pulls me back.

“Don’t go.” He says.

I can feel it, that need, that pain inside him through our bond. I don’t understand what this is. What the hell happened?

“What’s wrong?” I whisper.

He doesn’t reply, he just buries his face in my neck, just as his Lycan did hours before and I lay there, still, stiff, letting him take whatever this comfort is, while trying to ignore the voice screaming in my head to just let him do what he wants.

“You smell so good.” He murmurs.

I don’t reply. I don’t know what to say to that.

He pulls me tighter and I can feel it, his body heat, his strength, every muscle he has.

“Adriel,” I whisper again.

“I like the way you say my name.”

That makes me smile despite myself. “You shouldn’t be here.” I say.

“Are you kicking me out? When I need you?” He half-teases.

I sigh. I don’t know how to handle this man. I don’t have a fucking clue. He’s so hot and cold all the time. One minute he’s that decisive king I expect, and the next, the next he feels like a lost little boy that just needs help. “Why do you need me?”

He lets out a grumble. “You’re my mate.”
