Chapter 37

As I returned to my room, I tried to hold back the storm of tears that I knew would come. How could he do that to me? How could Jet do this to me? The feeling of deep betrayal was almost too painful to take.

Opening my door and rushing inside, I quickly turned the lock. Even though I still didn't feel safe, this was the safest I could be at this time. Knowing that all the doors could withstand a kick to open it.

My legs suddenly gave way, and I slid down the door until I was sitting on the floor. I drew my knees tighter into my chest, and resting my forehead on my knees, I let the tears flow.

I sobbed so much I could hardly breathe, I felt devastated, betrayed, violated, and on top of all that, I also felt the mate bond.

Now that we had confirmed the fated mates by consummating the pairing, the bond was now official and fully in place. The pull to be near Knox was almost overpowering. My heart skipped a beat as I thought his name. This was not good. I had to get away from here. Away from him. Maybe the mate bound between Lycans was different than werewolves. Maybe, with a Lycan, the farther away you are from your mate, the weaker the bond. Eventually breaking it?

I had to try and find out. Getting up off the bedroom floor, I walked to the en-suite and jumped in the shower. Attempting to scrub off the scent of Knox, which had been swirling around under my nostrils, and turning my legs to jelly, simultaneously trying to get me to walk back to him. I was in the shower for ages. Even though I had washed my hair that morning, I still scrubbed it until I felt some semblance of cleanliness.

Wrapped in a big fluffy white towel, I walked to my closet. Seeing all of Lumos's clothes hanging up neatly brought a lump to my throat at the thought of leaving the two girls. I got on well with them, and apart from Katie, they were my only friends. But, I couldn't think like that at the moment, or I wouldn't want to go.

I grabbed clean underwear and a pair of soft denim jeans, a plain yellow t shirt and a pair of sneakers. I knew they were all Lumos's clothes. And I did feel bad about taking them, I just didn't know how long I would be on foot. As I didn't know where I was headed. I just knew I had to get away from here.

Jet had been trying this entire time to speak to me. I just couldn't speak with her at the moment. I felt so betrayed by her. I was beyond disappointed. I thought I had finally found that one thing you could count on. I thought she had my back, I thought she would protect me. Instead, she allowed Andras and Knox to violate my body. How could she let them? How could she do it herself?

After I had changed into the new second-hand clothes and sneakers from Lumos, I stuff more underwear into my back pack, along with the clothes I traveled in. It wasn't a lot. But it would do. Remembering the rags I called my uniform whilst in the Opal Moon Pack. I was sure the clothes I had now would be more than enough. I needed to find Katie, she was the only one I kept thinking about.

I heard a soft knock on the bedroom door. Walking over to stand next to it, I touched the handle, with a shaking hand. I opened the door just enough so I could see who was standing there. When I recognized the caller, I immediately slammed the door shut and made sure the lock was clicked too.

How dare he knock on my door!

Just who the fuck did he think he was?

I was furious. I could feel myself getting angrier. It seemed like my blood was boiling. But the worst thing was the pull of the bond. The door had only been open for a few seconds, and the desire that surged through me left me breathless. I couldn't stand it. I needed to leave. NOW.

Knox POV

How can someone go from ecstatically happy to dumbfounded? in the space of three seconds. When I stood up and looked at Sam, I thought I would see my own sexual satisfaction looking back at me. But all I found was despair, anger and accusation.

Watching Sam run out of the room after virtually being accused of rape was honestly one of the more bizarre moments of my life, I'll admit.

I shouted in my head at Andras to answer some questions, but he was in the furthest part of my mind and refused to come forward. I tried to bargain with him, but he was hiding from me. Whatever had just happened, he was part of it. I needed him to speak to Jet. We were pair bonded now. That meant our souls had been combined. This would make us stronger, faster and smarter, leading to better leadership for the pack. Not to mention the strength it would give all the she-wolves in the pack to have a strong Luna stand next to their alpha.

I continued to talk to Andras as I made my way to Sam's room. The way she looked as she fled told me she was on the verge of tears, and it hurt my heart to think of my/our mate crying. I needed to sort this out.

Mate, I thought to myself. After all the years, I swore I would not take a mate. I could hardly believe it. As I got closer to Sam's door, I stopped in my tracks. I put my hands on my head, as I didn't know what to do. It had just dawned on me what the damn Lycan I shared my soul with had done.

I was screaming in my head at him. I couldn't believe he would do things to me. To Sam. He was besotted with her, why would he deliberately set out to hurt her? If he wouldn't come forward and tell me why, I told him that I was headed to her room to reject her.

I would never do this, as it would probably kill me as much as Sam, but I had to have some leverage over the sneaky bastard.

I was only a few steps from Sam's door when Andras finally came forward.

'What did you do to her? Was the only question I asked. There was no need for more. I was surprised by his answer nonetheless.

'It was all Jet's idea. She knew Sam wanted to search for Katie. Jet was afraid that if Sam walked away from us, she would not return. So, when we were together talking earlier, Jet started to work on a plan to get us mated and together. That's all she wanted. I swear to you Knox. We only wanted to stay together.

'I understand that Andras, but do you think there was a better way to do it than for Jet to take control of her body so she could get her own way? For fuck sake, Andras. With everything that girl has gone through. Jet should be ashamed of herself. I'm ashamed of her. And when I see her next, I will say so.

When I finally reached her room, I hesitated before knocking. The dread I feel in my stomach starts to crawl, it's way up my throat, almost choking me. I square my shoulders and gently knock the door. I knock again in the hope that Sam answers the door to me.

The door opened slowly, and only enough for me to see a pair of hurt and angry eyes before it was slammed in my face. 'Okay' I thought. I could feel myself getting angry, but not because Sam slammed the door, but because it was only open a few seconds, it was enough for the mate bond to demand attention. My mate was in that room, and I could feel my patience slipping away as the need to hold her, to kiss her again, became almost overwhelming.

I had to get out of here. NOW

I spin on my heel and run down the corridor and into my rooms. It was set up as a small apartment. Bedroom, sitting room, en-suite I even had a small kitchen in here. Not that I ever used it.

I stride over to my floor to ceiling glass doors and let the serenity of the landscape laid out in front of me calm me. It would usually work. Sometimes during the night, I could stand here for hours. My Lycan eyes worked brilliantly in the dark, and I could see as clearly in the dark as I do in the day.

The forest wasn't having much effect tonight. 'I wonder why' I thought to myself sarcastically.

I needed to let off some steam, so I stripped off, opened the glass doors and jumped off the terrace. Shifting in mid air, I land as Andras, and I am soon running through my beloved forest.

Neither Andras nor myself noticed a small figure crouched into the shadow of the pack house. Neither of us noticed the figure scurry over to the garage where all the cars were parked.

We were both too focused on the run and to hopefully get some tension out of our body to realise that our mate was getting ready to hitch a ride. Our mate was leaving, and we didn't notice.
