Chapter 38

Sam POV

I crouched down as I watched the powerful Lycan dash into the forest. He didn't even realise I was near him. Wtf was up with that.

Anyway, I needed to get into the garage. I know that there are a few cars that regularly leave early in the morning. I had also been told that as all the cars belonged to Knox, all the keys were held in a secure box within the garage itself, so any member for the pack could use a car at any time, with permission of course.

When I got into the garage, it was too dark to see much, and I didn't put any lights on. I found a secluded corner and crouched as low as possible. Jet still wasn't talking to me, as she was already pining for Andras and the row we had.

I heard a noise from outside, and my heart started pounding. Trying to breathe as evenly as possible, I waited for the noise to stop. Only it didn't. It got louder and louder as the she-wolves came into the garage. I thought I would be caught and sent back to the pack house, but soon realised that the she-wolves were busy making out.

I was a little embarrassed, as I heard the make out session start to get heavy. I could hear both women giggle now and again, and my heart clenched. Jet started to berate me, telling me we had that. In Knox. And we were throwing it away. It didn't matter how much I explained to Jet, she didn't see anything wrong in the mating between Knox and myself. I tried to get her to see it from my point of view, but her life seems now consumed with Andras.

The crash of a tool box almost had me crying out in fright, but I managed to stop myself just in time. Looking around to see where it fell, I noticed how close the two women were to me. Trying as hard as possible to blend into the concrete wall, I was stunned to see Lumos.

Lumos was with the young woman, and by the looks of it, they were pretty serious about each other. They were too busy shushing each other to pay any attention to me. They found the fallen tool box and both bent to pick up the mixture of tools. It looked like they were going to stay down for a while longer.

'At a girl, Lulu' I said to myself. Genuinely happy for them. As they were so focused, I managed to shuffle around and position myself by the trunk of the smallest car in the garage. I figured that as all the other cars were on the large size, I hoped it meant this car was Lumos's girlfriend.

After another ten minutes, I heard them both say they were pissed off that the other girl could not stay the night. But as Knox was in a particularly bad mood Lumos didn't want to risk it.

Sam learned the other girl's name was Tara. Sam saw Tara take hold of Lumos's cheek in a gentle gesture, 'Hey, what did we say, huh?' The other girl said softly, 'it's okay to be apart when we know getting back together is so sweet. I will see you tomorrow anyway'. Lumos let out a frustrated sigh and moved her head away from Tara's touch, 'It's not good enough, why can't we be together now? You know how I feel about you. I lo....'. Tara placed a gentle finger on Lumos's lips to shush her. 'I feel the same way baby, but if it got out that I was in a relationship with one of the top wolves, they would all start to question my place within the warriors. I've worked too long and too hard for it all to be taken from me now. I'm sorry, I know it's selfish, I just want to keep us a secret a little longer. Please'. Tara put her forehead against Lumos's. They both had their eyes closed, and Tara started to hmm a sweet tune that brought a smile to Lumos's face. Lumos placed a chaste kiss on Tara's lips. They both swayed to Tara's tune in what was an incredibly intimate moment between the two she-wolves. Sam could feel the blush creep up her face as she witnessed all this, and her heart broke for Lumos, who was clearly very much in love with Tara.

Sam POV

I heard the familiar beep of the car unlocking. I was right to think this smaller car would not belong to Knox. Taking the chance when the two lovers shared a final kiss, I gently opened the door and managed to squeeze myself in.

I pushed myself into the footwell of the back seat. It was a very tight space, but desperation dictated I make the effort. Trying to put my body into a position where I was as small as possible, I held my breath as I held the driver's side door open and close. As the two of them were still chatting, no one sensed me. It was kinda cute how they were so wrapped up in each other, it seemed like no one else existed.

Feeling suddenly sorry for myself, I huddled a little bit tighter. I didn't care about the stupid mate bond. I didn't care about the pull to devour every inch of my mate. I didn't care about Knox Mathias!

Andras POV

I had barely reached the forest when I suddenly got a strange feeling. I never felt it before. It was a shooting pain in my chest. Thinking it was probably a stitch from running as fast as I had to get here, I chose to ignore it and keep on running. A little further in, I felt the same pain again. It stopped me in my tracks as it hit the middle of my chest again. Looking around for signs of danger or imminent rouges, I slowly spun in a circle. I had excellent vision in the night. I took another turn to make sure I saw nothing, then decided to check in with the border patrol warriors.

Running faster than before, I reached the east border within ten minutes. I slowed as i approached, wanting to see what the warrior on the line would do. I could see that he had already sensed me. He was in. Full alert mood. His swift eyes covering the area quickly. I saw his shoulders relaxed a little, then I heard 'Alpha, can I help you'. Grinning at myself for feeling a little proud, I looped up to the warrior, and holding out my arm, I enclosed his in a shake.

I shifted back into Knox as something didn't feel right...

Knox POV

'Mateo, why are you on the eastern border, don't you patrol the northern line?' My brow was furrowed as I waited for his answer. I could see his Adam's apple bobbing up and down as he swallowed nervously for a few seconds before answering me.

'Alpha, my rota was changed last minute. I only found out myself when I came on duty and was told I was in the wrong place. I did take me nearly an hour as Kit to get here. But I did follow the border line to make sure. Everything is fine. It was just the mix up with myself and Tara'.

This caught my attention again, 'Tara? What does she have to do with anything?' I asked snappily.

I had found Tara around the pack house a lot in the last few months. It was almost a regular thing. She always had an explanation for why she was there. But something still didn't sit right.

'Alpha' Mateo replied, 'Tara was supposed to be the warrior in charge of the east border line, but something came up and she had to change her agenda'. I watched as the young warrior became agitated. Something was up, and I needed to find out what it was before I left here.

'Tell me, Mateo. Does Tara do this type of thing often?' I looked straight at him as I asked. I knew I would see the lie should he say it 'no alpha, it is not a regular thing. I think Tara was only off once before. And that was when her mother died'.

Choosing to wait before I spoke to Mateo again, I asked in my mind if Andras could sense anything off with this situation. The only response was hearing him whine out a long low mournful sound. What the fuck was happening.
