Genni left the seat on the slightly raised platform and walked toward the struggling parents who immediately bowed their heads to her. Genni squatted down by the pram and looked in at the deeply upset child, she looked at the parents for permission to touch the boy and it was given immediately, the parents where overjoyed that the Luna was taking an interest in their baby. ‘How old is he’? Genni asked quietly, ‘one week old your grace’ answered is mother. ‘We are sorry about the noise he’s making, Your Grace, we thought it a nice idea to get out of the house for a bit and mingle with our friends but as you can see Braxdon wont settle so we were about to leave’. Looking into the fathers face she could see so much love for the child but he was exhausted. ‘What do both of you do within the pack’? Genni enquired and was told that the wolf whose name was Michael Francs was a second grade warrior and his Mate, Michelle francs was a lawyer in the company but was presently on maternity leave. ‘May I’? Genni asked and both parents almost fell over themselves in the rush to say it was ok. Looking down at the child who was now progressing from a cry to a sob genni stood up and reached into the pram to pick up baby Braxdon. When she had settled the child within the crook of her arm Genni started talking to the baby in a low soothing tone. As gently as she could Genni ran her hand over the little body wracked in sobs. When her hand reached the baby’s stomach it stopped. Applying a small amount of pressure Genni used her calming Aura and almost instantly Braxdon fell silent, his big brown eyes looked into Genni’s and she was instantly smitten with him. Looking shocked but very pleased both parents looked on as Genni placed a small kiss on Braxdon’s head. Not giving anything away in her expression Genni linked with Dr Julia ‘I need you to come to the dining hall straight away’ Genni didn’t need to hear her response as she knew the Dr would be running at this very moment to get to her luna as fast as she could. Bursting through the doors of the dining hall Dr Julia scanned the room quickly looking for Genni, spotting her she rushed to her side, bowed her head and asked ‘Your Grace, are you ok’? This question had Jonas by Genni’s side in a flash and he looked at her inquiringly. Linking with her husband to tell him she was not the one who needed the Dr Genni turned back to the parents and asked them to describe what Braxdon had been like since he was born. Both parents were startled to hear the question from their Luna but the Mother,Michelle started to explain to the Dr.
‘It started as soon as he was born really, he latched on greedily at once but wishing fifteen minutes of feeding he would be sick, bringing all the food back up. We spoke with our midwife Dorothy Banks but were told that we had a sicky baby and it was nothing to worry about’. Glancing at her Mate she asked him to take over the story ‘as far as im concerned that midwife shouldn’t be on service at her age, we are desperately worried but keep getting told its normal and to wait it out. But look at him’ Michael gestured to his son who was starting to stir in Genni’s arms. Sensing the mothers need Genni handed the baby back. And turning to speak to the Dr asked what her opinion is. Frowning at the baby Dr Julia asked if she could place her hand on the baby but at the exact spot that Genni’s hand had stopped a few minutes earlier.having given the Dr permission to do what was needed, Julia ask if the baby could be stripped down to his nappy. When this was done Dr Julia very carefully placed her fingers on the child’s stomach, shaking her head despondently Dr Julia remembered something from her formal training as a Dr. Asking both parents to follow her to the hospital Dr Julia linked with her Luna and asked her to join them. Smiling at Julia Genni pecked Jonas’s cheek and told him she would meet up with him later, also telling him the Greg could be contacted now. Wriggling his eyebrows Genni chuckled and gave him another kiss when she pulled back Genni could see the hospital party was ready to leave.
Getting to the hospital only took a few short minutes. That was the good thing about having the hospital so close in proximity to the Pack house. Entering a small room, not unlike the room Hilda was in, Dr Julia asked Michelle to try and feed the baby. Nodding and doing as she was bid Michelle exposed one Brest that was laden with milk, and latched Braxdon on. Dr Julia explained ‘ while you are feeding him I am going to keep my fingers by his stomach area. It’s the quickest way to determine if there’s anything wrong’. Getting comfy in a chair Michelle started to feed the precious little thing and kneeling down at the side of them both Dr Julia started to touch around the babies stomach. Not enough to cause discomfort but enough for her to feel the walnut sized mass that passed underneath her fingers. Pulling them back she smiled at both parents and told them gravely ‘I believe I am right in saying that your little boy has a condition called pyloric stenosis and he needs surgery immediately’. Michelle burst into tears and Michael just stood there looking stunned ‘are you sure’ Michael managed to croak out and Dr Julie said ‘I am 99% sure that your baby is suffering from this’. A nurse came over to retrieve the baby from his mothers arms but Michelle was having a hard time letting go so Genni stood next to her and placed an arm around her shoulder trying to give her support. Finally, once the baby was whisked away by the nurse Dr Julia explained what she was going to do ‘basically, the entrance into the baby’s tummy is blocked by the muscle. Everyone’s tummy has a muscle around the entrance to their stomach, this muscle will flex as and when food is eaten as it allows food to enter but rarely allows food back up. The milk that little Braxdon is drinking from you is not entering his stomach but is sitting on top of the stomach. As this is not natural the milk/food that is sitting there is expelled via a powerful flex of the muscle and is sent flying out of the child’s mouth as projectile vomiting. Had the Luna not caught this in your baby he would have progressively gotten worse to the point that even I would not have been able to help him but, he is here now so I will perform an operation on him where I will cut open the muscle, allow it movement and when I am satisfied that the muscle is working as it should, I will stitch him back up and he will be as good as new’ she smiled softly at Michelle, who was still leaning on the Luna whilst crying, Dr Julia held out her hands and clasping both parents said quietly but firmly that all was going to be ok. Both the parents nodded but Genni could see the worry etched on both their faces and her heart broke for the little family. The baby was only a week old and was already to endure this pain and danger to its new life. Squatting down again so she was eye level with Michelle Genni said gently ‘I shall leave you both now in the capable hands of the wonderful pack Dr. She is an amazing Dr and a very good surgeon, or so I’m told. I don’t think either of you need worry’. Holding out her hands to the two people by her Genni said a small prayer and told her to keep her informed. Doesn’t matter how small the news may be, Genni wanted to hear it. Still crying softly, Michelle kissed Genni’s hand and held it to her cheek ‘Your Grace, if not for you we would not be standing here right now, thank you, thank you, thank you…..’. Smiling at the both she carefully extracted her hand from Michelle’s grasp and nodding to the two of them, Genni walked out of the hospital and proceeded to walk to Jonas’s office whilst linking with Molly and Sara and telling them to meet her in her office in half an hour. Entering Genni’s scanned the office quickly but found no one there, closing her eyes for a moment Genni connected to Jax, who told Genni that they were currently taking a training session with the third class warriors. Feeling a bit put out for not being able to see her husband Genni walked up the two flights of stairs that would take her her the upper levels in the pack house and to her office. Even though she had stipulated half an hour both women were waiting for her outside her office. When they saw her Sara ran down the corridor to greet her best friend while Genni linked with her and asked how her morning had gone so far, seeing Sara blush to the roots of her hair Genni laughed and hugged her. They walked down the rest of the corridor arm in arm just like they used to and meeting Molly by the office door gestured for the two She-Wolves to enter before her. Sitting down by her desk and asking her Beta and Gamma to sit genni looked at them gravely and explained what had happened an hour ago in the dining hall ‘so now, that little baby is having an operation, as we speak, and he’s only one week old’. She finished with a catch in her throat and when she looked at her team she could see Molly was crying silently and Sara had fat tears running down her cheek. Looking back toward Molly, Genni asked her if she could bring someone to her. Looking a little shocked at the request and frowning at her Luna molly asked ‘but, cant you just call her in to see you. Mind link way’? Genni nodded at her Beta and then explained herself ‘I do not want you to startle the person but professional curtesy must be given at all times’. Thoroughly intrigued now Molly looked at Sarah and then back to Genni asking ‘who is to be brought to you’? Looking down at her hands which were laying in her lap, Genni took a breath and said ‘I want you to bring me the midwife Dorothy Banks. There are a few questions I would like answered. As always you will be discreet in bringing her to me, after what I witnessed today a chat with her would be most prudent‘.
