I knew I was asleep, but I was in the space between sleep and waking up. I was in the forest, I could smell the earth, and the trees, and I could even smell the wild animals that scurried around. As I continued walking, I could see the river that marked the boundary of the Luna Shadow pack lands. I tilted my head and became aware that someone or something was walking towards me. With recognition came a calm feeling.
"Oh, I'm in a trance shift again"? I asked the wolf now sitting by my side.
"Sit with me Genevieve, we need to have a talk before you wake up fully. There have been some changes to us, and we both need to be prepared for everyone's reactions".
I looked a little shocked at that 'Changes? like the fact, your beautiful coat is now a brilliant white"? I reached out and stroked Sapphire's fur. It still thrilled me that I could do this, even if I was still unsure why it was only the two of us.
"Yes, when you wake up, you will see yourself for the first time since we completed the ceremony. It may be a shock for you to see, so I thought it was a good idea to meet before that happens". I turned my body so I was fully facing Sapphire, who was now laying down. I still had to look up at the large wolf.
"Do you remember anything after I joined with Jax and completed the ceremony?" asked Sapphire. I had to think about that for a while, as I wasn't sure what I remembered was real. "Well, I remember feeling hot, like really hot. Then I started to feel like there was a live current running through my body". I was looking at Sapphire intently, waiting for Sapphire to call me nuts or something similar.
"That is what I felt, it forced me to shift back so you could take control. I think we may have frightened the life out of Jax", Sapphire chuckled, and I also laughed at that. "I think Jax knows not to be weary of us now". I smiled, remembering the hot shower we took a few hours ago. Sapphire put her muzzle to my face and thanked me for that.
"Jax is going to be very important in the coming months, and he needs to know that we are mentally, spiritually and physically linked to him". Sapphire said softly.
"Did you hear what she said, Sapphire? I know you were forced to shift back, but did you hear what she said?" I was hoping Sapphire had heard the voice that had spoken to me the moment after I had shifted back.
"Yes, I heard her, and I think we both need to acknowledge who she is before this chat goes any further. I know you have a lot of questions and I can try to answer them, but not even I know the whole thing". Sapphire said softly.
I was nodding my head at what my wolf had just said. She did indeed need to put an identity to the voice we heard.
''It was the voice of our mother, our real mother", she said, and my head bowed. Sapphire had also bowed her head at the mention of our mother. "Do you remember me telling you that the trance shift we are doing at the moment is a rare thing?"
I nodded at Sapphire and asked her to go on, as I felt Sapphire knew something I didn't. "Well, the reason we and only we can do it is that it is the only way we can talk to our mother".
I gasped at that, my head was spinning with so many questions at this point. "When? How? Will it just be a voice or will we see her?"
I knew there was a longing in my voice, this was her real mother. "You can see me," said another voice, making me jump slightly. As the two halves of the same person looked up, they were incredulous at the sight before them. The most stunning woman I had ever seen was walking towards us both with her arms out stretched.
She was wearing what looked like a translucent robe. She had long. long hair that was the exact same colour as my new hair, and she had a smile on her face that was so serene it was blissful to see.
''My Daughter' she said in a voice that sounded like the wind carried it. "You both have a most important job to do! There is a war coming, and if we don't stop it, it will be the end of all werewolves, everywhere. This cannot happen, we can not let it happen. Do you understand my children? Both Sapphire and I nodded, it was all either of us could do. As we were still speechless the vision of beauty stood in front of us.
"Mother", said Sapphire tentatively, "I don't think we understand fully. What war are you talking about?" A war between Whom"? Mother answered Sapphire's question but only left the wolf with more. "Do not fret about that now, my loves, we have the time to try, but first you both need to know more about where you come from".
Sapphire and I looked at our mother with looks of uncertainty. " Mother", I said, "if I can ask, how are you our mother? I'm sorry, I just don't understand". I was getting confused and had tears in my eyes. I felt so uncertain about so many things, Sapphire sat closer to me and I sunk into the warmth of Sapphire's fur. Mother smiled at this and declared she had made the right choice in choosing us both for this most sacred task. "It is a long story Genevieve, and although you need to hear it, it cannot be told now, not all of it away. All I will tell you is that now that the connections have been made, the power of 3 has been awoken in you. This will give you powers that will allow you to connect with any wolf, at any time. You will also be aware if someone is lying to you, and you will both have the power to dominate Alpha".
My eyes widened at this news and I thought to myself, "Even Jonas? Who is the Grand Alpha?" Even though I did not voice this thought, they both heard it. I blushed when I realised what I had done and understood that in a trance shift, we were all aware of everything being said and done. "Genvieve, there is a very specific reason that your mates are the Grand Alpha, and yes, if you need to, you could dominate him as well". I looked at Sapphire and knew the same would be true of Jax.
"Now I believe I have a long story to tell you. It is important for you both to know, as it is closely linked to the war that now threatens all". Sapphire and I didn't know what we were about to hear, but whatever it was, this was finally going to be the truth, and I could not wait to hear it!
