***Trix POV***
I was very aware that my mouth was once again hanging open. This time though, I was in no hurry to close it. I heard the most incredulous words coming from the beautiful She-Wolf sitting so casually in front of me. I tried to speak but my mouth was too dry, remembering that it had been hanging open I snapped it shut and swallowed. Before I addressed the ludicrous statement I closed my eyes and tried to centre myself, just like the Luna had shown me.
''Can you say that again, please? I don't think heard you right'' I knew I was looking intently at the wolf, I couldn't help it. A small flutter of hope started in my stomach but I pushed it down hard. I was a human, a wolfless girl. A useless girl only fit for one thing. Suppressing the flutter, I continued to look at Jewel. Who only stared back at me, waiting. But, waiting for what? I was confused. My head had started to hurt. I never got headaches. So why now?
Looking at the wolf and seeing the crimson red on her fur felt somewhat familiar. I raised my hand to my own dark hair and stroked it gently. I felt a stirring within me. I was suddenly terrified as if I was doing something shameful. I raised fearful eyes to Jewel's calm ones.
''Touch my fur'' I heard the wolf say softly. This was most surprising as I knew werewolves did not like to be pet unless they were with their mate. Reaching out a tentative hand I lightly brushed the back of my fingers down the side of Jewel's head and then up to touch the crimson-stained eartips.
Images started to flash in my head. Slowly at first, then faster until I gasped and stumbled to the floor. Jewel was immediately behind me and as I sat up I felt the great wolf settle around me. Supporting my back, and she had laid her head on my lap. Absentmindedly, I started to stroke the large head, and once again images flashed across my mind. No. not just images. They were Memories, suppressed and hidden for a long time.
''I don't understand'' I said quietly.
***Jewel POV***
I was so grateful to the Goddess Genni for allowing us the use of her other realm and sanctuary. As the clock ticked down the minutes until Trixie turned 18 I sat patiently. Waiting to be reunited with my human. Not being able to connect with her, not being able to talk to her. As a cub, you get to attach your soul with you're humans as soon as they are born. It's said that the moon goddess herself pairs the cub with the human soul. I knew I had connected to Trixie, I had watched from her eyes as a babe in arms, as a toddler.
Then, something happened, it was so strange. It almost felt like I'd been ripped away from her. My soul was suddenly floating, waiting. Until the Goddess had called me back to her realm. I was told to wait. That my human was still alive. Just not ready for the connection. I was told I was to be special as was my human. So I trained the hardest and waited. And waited. Until a year or so ago, something shifted in all of the realms. something powerful. very powerful.
As this happened I realised I could 'feel' Trixie again. I couldn't manage to reconnect. There was still a block on that. but I could feel her. I was so overjoyed. so hopeful. Losing your soul sharer is an agony I would never wish on anyone. The shift that had happened, the powerful new aura that was now present in all werewolf community was The Goddess Genevieve unlocking her powers on her 18th birthday. She was the true daughter of the Moon Goddess Selene and a powerful wolf.
I believe that having this wonderful person find her mate with our own Grand Alpha and come to live in our pack somehow allowed me to find Trixie again. But finding Trixie had its downside. When we meet up, our minds will join together. Not as one, but as a wolf and human living as they should. This will also mean that Trixie will undoubtedly 'unlock' memories.
I had already been able to unlock a few of Trixie's. Some I could remember myself, having been with Trixie until the age of two and a half, some I did not. It was the ones I did not know about that tortured me now. I knew I had a lot of anger inside, it had built up over the last year, knowing Trixie again, but still being cut off. Yet, feeling her enough to get flashes of her memories. I will always be the biggest regret of mine that I could not be there to protect her.
I suddenly felt very sad and looked down at my red-tipped paws. That was when I heard the sound of something moving through the river. I could feel my fur standing on end. Like I had just been plugged into an outlet. I could see her now, see her wading slowly through the water. I couldn't help. I just had to sit with her and let her come to me. The goddess Genevieve told me the river symbolised the barrier between Trixie and me. Trixie would have to fight her way through, towards the bank and towards me. When we touch, the connection should solidify into the bond that all werewolves share with their other half.
My Trixie was beauiful. Watching her pull her legs one at a time through the thick water was agony to watch, but also made me so proud of her. I was watching my human overcome the barrier, and break whatever hold it had on her. The Goddess had explained that this was the easiest way to explain it to Trixie. I was still unsure how I had been kept from her but Her Grace, Genevieve told me she knew. And would tell us both after we had found each other again.
I watched her walk towards me, watched as she bowed in respect. Listened to the questions she asked. waited for the first contact with each other. I answered her questions and when I felt her gentle fingers glide over my shiny fur I closed my eyes. We were complete
***Trixie POV***
I couldn't take much more of the images, memories, whatever they were. I wished for them to stop and they did. just as quickly as they started. My head felt heavy with everything swirling around it. I could feel the big head push me gently back until my head was touching her fur. I instantly relaxed into this position. I heard a great sigh from Jewel, telling me she felt it too. I had a wolf, I was not a wolfless human, but a fully-fledged member of my pack, with my wolf.
This thought made me smile for a few seconds, only to feel the enormity of what had just happened. I had been lied to, for most of my life. If some of these memories now in my head were anything to go by I was born with my wolf, and had memories of my wolf up until 2 years old. So, why had the connection stopped? Who had stopped it? and why. Had my father done this to me on purpose? If he had done something to me, to stop my wolf and me being together, what had he done? Did my mother know about it? If she had known, was there no way she could have stopped it?
I was making myself crazy with these thoughts instead of celebrating the fact Jewel had returned to me. I still found it hard to believe, but how could I deny the wolf when I knew within my very soul that she was the other half of it? Sitting up, I squared my shoulders. Looking at MY WOLF, I nodded my head then stood up ''I'm ready if you are" I said, somewhat shyly. Jewel stood up too. We looked at each other for a few long seconds. Then Jewel told me to close my eyes. I did as I was told and closed my eyes. I could hear the river, I could hear the rustling of the trees high above us. When it happened I felt it, it was like the snap of an elastic band and shot straight to my heart and very soul.
Breathing a little heavier than normal, I slowly opened my eyes and looked around. Jewel had gone, no, not gone. She was here with me. within me. I could feel the bond strengthening as every minute ticked by. I was not alone, I would never be alone again. No one would separate us again. I asked inward what's happens now and I heard a chuckle "It's you and me now kid' was the response which made me smile. Yes, it was, I thought. It was Me and My wolf. WE WERE COMPLETE.
