Chapter 44

Chapter 44

Nora's POV

I remained in the car, not wanting to come out to fight when we were reported to be surrounded by men who were probably from the hall where we had been in the meeting just now. It had somehow degenerated into a free-for-all battle, and I was happy with the alpha's idea of not indulging and instead leaving it to the people to handle that themselves. As for us, having us simply sneak away and not involving ourselves in the trouble that was obviously about to unfold - at least he was a peaceful guy. I appreciated that, but who could have thought that the trouble would come looking for us even when we had done everything we could possibly do to avoid it?

I frowned as I heard his suggestion that I fight. Was he insane? My abilities - I didn't have much of an idea how to use them, and I wasn't sure whether this Nora would have the ancient powers that I usually had in my other time, or whether I would have to use the powers of the Emilia from this particular timeline. I was not completely sure what was true, and that was exactly the reason why I thought that it would be a much better idea for us to stay out of any fight at all.

However, this wasn't possible. There didn't seem to be any way for me to escape this confrontation, and I knew that if I tried to dodge away from it, I would simply end up making him more suspicious of me than ever. I took in a deep breath as I came out of the car with him after agreeing. I saw the first rogue wolf, already in his werewolf form, slashing at me with his claws. In a move, I found to be devastating - at least it would be if it managed to strike me.

I dodged it as quickly as possible before trying my best to shift into my real form. Actually, I should still be able to do that now, shouldn't I? I didn't see any reason why that would prove to be a difficult task for me since I still pretty much had my abilities. However, I much preferred using magic. The shifting didn't work out quite as planned - it didn't work out at all, and I found myself faced off against a werewolf with human hands and nothing more.

I made up my mind that I would give the alpha the excuse that I was pregnant, which was why I didn't want to transform or do stuff like that. It was recorded in history, after all, that some things like that had happened, and I knew because of the history that I knew from my previous timeline a couple of millennia ago. A perfect excuse, I thought to myself, smiling as I thought of how it would work if I told it to him.

Therefore, I didn't hesitate to fight as much as I could with my bare hands. No, I wasn't a weak person, and I had a lot of combat abilities, so when I kicked the wolf's chin, I smiled a little, expecting him to fall. But as it happened, his bones were much stronger than I expected them to be, and my foot hurt instead. It growled at me, taking a step forward, but the alpha was there, slashing across its face with his claws, tearing it into pieces within a couple of moments.

I found another opponent to face off against, feeling a little enraged that the one I had been so confident in taking down was now away from me. I frowned as I got another opponent, another man in his werewolf form. However, he wasn't too difficult for me to deal with like he was supposed to be, considering his werewolf advantage. He was slashing his claws at me as I punched him, holding up a piece of wood that I saw lying around and also using it as a weapon to my advantage.

He didn't really seem like he cared about it before, but soon enough I got the piece of wood into his eye with one sudden quick movement that obviously surprised him. It made it rather impossible for him to continue fighting me. A newbie though, I thought to myself, not feeling any fun or joy defeating this guy because I knew that it could pretty much be the opposite. Just as I managed to defeat him right now, I wished that I would have a sudden spurt of magic out of the blue to help me out.

I had wish abilities, the only issue being that I didn't really know how to use them anymore, and I didn't know how much of them I had left and what I could do anymore in this particular body. I however made good use of the practice opportunity I had with this particular werewolf and taught him a lesson to the best of my own abilities, actually managing to defeat him despite the odds against me.

The alpha soon came around, but he didn't look impressed at all. Well, why did I expect him to be? I had barely taken down one enemy in the time that it took him to take down five. However, we had won already, so he could be rest assured, and he didn't have to ask anything more. No longer after, we got back to the palace and I headed to my room straight up, feeling terrible and wanting some comfort of some sort. Maybe just my pillow would be enough to get me happy once again after everything that had happened today, and all my challenges and failures in dealing with various matters and issues that had arisen.

I would need those memories back in the world of the previous Nora, I decided to myself, making up my mind that that was the solution to half of my problems. If I had the information that she was supposed to have, then I was pretty sure it wouldn't take me as much time to survive here and do so without issues. Also, I was wondering how I would find that priestess and get her to give me the information that I wanted, when all of a sudden I got a knock on my door.

Once again, I thought to myself as I considered how lucky I was to suddenly be meeting her outside the room because I already knew it was her somehow, even though there was nothing exactly to give me that piece of information. I smiled to myself as I came out of the room to talk with her. Luckily it was the lady that came by herself because I hadn't been joking when I threatened to end the life of that man if he ever showed up to talk with me again, and I might have carried out my revenge on him just now since I tend to be impulsive sometimes.

"I came to talk with you after hearing about your meeting with the other dignitaries," I looked at her coldly as if asking her what she wanted. She had a stoic expression on her face as she spoke. "I think we should allow ourselves to be friends, and there are a lot of ways we can help one another," she said to me, smiling a bit now. "I would like to help you and talk with you right now as a matter of fact."

I raised an eyebrow. "I'm without using it right now," I said, though I kept my tone neutral. I shouldn't push her away, not when I wasn't sure if it was a good thing. If she could simply tell me what she wanted, then I wouldn't be against talking with her. I simply needed to know exactly what she wanted from me. She was doing all this seemingly knowing what I would need.

"Give it time," she spoke softly. "Come with me," she said, "I would like for us to discuss a couple of things."

I had no idea what she was really talking about, but I felt rather uneasy. "Can't we talk here?" I asked once again.

"I'm actually not supposed to be here, and if people know that I'm here, there might be some issues."

"Why are you not supposed to be here?" I asked her. "Are you some kind of criminal or something?"

"Please, let's just go and speak for a while," she told me, simple words, but I found it hard to concede to her terms. However, I finally nodded after thinking about it rationally. I was now going to agree to pay attention to my memories, but I was indeed going to meet her for it. It was a good idea for me to listen to her words now and follow her out just as she requested so that we could from there carry out the ritual that she proposed the last time. Because I was pretty sure such an activity couldn't be done in the palace itself, and definitely not in my room.
