A Lost Ring

A Lost Ring
Sylvia's POV.

I smiled, satisfied with the look on Fiona's face.

“What? Don't tell me you all didn't know about the intrusion of an assassin last night?” I asked, still trying to stir things up.

“We didn't. Did anything happen?” Fiona croaked and anyone with common sense would have sensed that something had suddenly gone wrong with her.

“Talk!” Vivienne barked, but I overlooked that, speaking not because she had ordered me to but because I was going to in the first place.

“Well, someone broke my lock, and tried to kill me, but the moment I heard the lock breaking, I had become alert and had run out the window. I was lucky to be able to escape, I almost died yesterday,” I said, forming my lips into a sad pout.

“Oh, poor girl,” one of the maids said.

“I guess we should be glad that you're fine”, Vivienne scoffed to herself but I heard her loud and clear.

Of course, if the news of my death had been passed around this morning, then most of the people residing in this penthouse would have been so glad.

Just then, I sighted Valen approaching from the back and a smirk curled up the corner of my lips, going unnoticed by the people around me.

I decided to give the show some spice.

“And now my lock is broken. I don't even know if I'm safe anymore” my tone was childish, a groan escaping my lips afterwards, but my gaze was fixed on Valen who had a smirk on as his feet brought him closer.

“Then I'll fix your lock for you. I'll get you the most secure lock I can ever find. I can't let anything happen to you” he said. And damn! If he had whispered those words to my ears, I would have had goosebumps crawling through my neck, heat flooding through my cheeks.

But he said it out loud for everyone to hear and we both knew that was nothing but a show.

The bait.

I was willing to be his bait who would get every danger lurking in the shadows out with the way I relate with him.

I was willing to let myself down for him to use, to explore all he wants.

He stopped in front of me, his eyes locking on mine as I intentionally smiled for Fiona and Vivienne to see.

“Thank you, Alpha” I bowed slightly, raising my head up before he could even say the words.

I could feel anger burning through the both of them, as they curled their fists.

Then when Valen turned to them, they smiled, masking their anger.

“Morning, Alpha” Fiona greeted, acting all flirty towards him.

“I trust you had a good night?” Vivienne smiled.

“Of course, I did,” Valen said. “I'll leave you all to continue what you were doing” he added, quickly dismissing them before they talked further.

Valen then turned, walking back the same way he came.

Vivienne then turned her gaze to me, this time not even smiling a bit.

“Follow me, Sylvia” Vivienne said through gritted teeth as she walked away without any farewell words to Fiona.

I followed behind her, and didn't fail to notice Fiona's gaze which was on me as I walked away. A mixture of fear and hatred.

The headmaid followed behind me as we walked to Vivienne's personal garden.

Will she have me trim the flowers and pull the weeds out again? I thought but soon was able to find out that she had an entirely different job for me.

“Two days ago, I lost my ring here in this garden. It's a silver ring with diamond on it” she said “it's my most cherished treasure as the Alpha had given it to me when we met. Find it!” She said, then turned, walking away.

The headmaid also glared at me before she turned, walking after Vivienne.

I groaned, starting to blame myself for pulling that show earlier. This wasn't the type of attack I had aimed for, instead was for them to seek the Creed out again.

After a while of hesitation, I started searching for the ring, crouching down at different locations as my hands brushed through the flowers, searching for the silver and diamond ring.

Moments later, I couldn't find it then left the gardens heading to Vivienne's chamber. After a knock, I was let in by the headmaid who usually sticks to her like glue.

“Have you brought the ring?” Vivienne asked, walking towards me with a smile, making me hesitate before I speak.

“I couldn't find it even after searching through the whole garden. I'm afraid the ring is not in there” I told her.

She scoffed, her face changing in an instant.

“What? You dare come to me with an empty hand?” Vivienne yelled, raising her hand in the air to slap me, but before her hand could make contact with my ear, I held her hand, grabbing it so tightly that she winced.

“Let go, you witch!” She yelled.

“How dare you act so disrespectful in front of my Lady?!” The headmaid also roared, but those words had no effect on me.

I suddenly  let go of Vivienne's hand, staring at her with a gaze full of venom.

“I might overlook every other thing, but don't you treat me like trash!” I said, but then calmed my voice. “I'm sorry if I was disrespectful, but I think the Lady should also know her place”

Vivienne looked at me for a while before closing her eyes as she tried to keep her anger in check.

“Sylvia? Go back to the garden, and look for my ring!” She said, her voice calm.

My gaze darted to the windows, taking the state of the weather in for a while before I replied.

“It's cloudy and will rain soon, Lady Vivienne. I'm afraid I won't be able to go back there” I said and she scoffed, taking a threatening step towards me.

“You do it when I tell you to!” She gritted.

Then I thought about everything and realized there must be something wrong somewhere. Maybe the ring was never there to begin with, and Vivienne just had a huge plan behind the whole ring thing.
