The Shock Of Her Survival

The Shock Of Her Survival
Sylvia's POV

We held each other's gaze, my gaze lingering on Valen when he moved his gaze to his phone when it made a sound.

My gaze also moved to the phone, seeing a message from his personal guard.

“He left. It's safe now, Alpha” the message reads.

Valen moved away from me, holding me by the hand as he dragged me back to the bed.

He made me sit on the bed and I only sat down, anger surging inside of me.

He moved over to the door, redoing the lock before walking back to me.

“Your lock is easy to penetrate through. I'll have someone place a more secure lock” he said, making me scoff.

“Thank you, but I don't need it!” I spat.

I was supposed to thank him for saving my life as I could see that he had really put a lot of effort in this seeing that even Rodrigo is involved, watching the assassin until he left.

Valen gave no response to my words, as he moved over to the windows, closing that too.

Then he stood in front of me, his arms crossed as he stared deep into my eyes.

I wanted to take my gaze away but I acted strong, holding his gaze.

“You asked me why I let him go?” He asked, and even though I gave no response, he continued.

“If he gets caught right here by me, he'll surely find a way to escape, being an assassin afterall. And even if he doesn't, news will reach the rest of the Creed and they will know that I'm protecting you” he said.

“You think that will make them back off? No, they will only plan more attacks for you” he added.

My gaze narrowed as my throat went dry. “You mean….someone in the Creed also wants me dead?” my eyes blinked as I asked.

“Yes. And that's why I would be using you as bait. Leaving them to attack you until I find out who's behind all this. But trust me, I'll always protect you” he said and I gulped.

How on earth did I acquire so much enemy?

“I don't have anything against you, Sylvia” he said but I replied with nothing.

“You've eaten?” He suddenly asked out of the blue and I hesitated for a while, blinking my eyes before I gave a reply.

“Yes” I lied, but my stomach wasn't comfortable with the lie as it growled.

Damn my stomach, honestly.

“That's a lie” Valen's gaze darkened as he turned, heading for the door.

“I'll be back with a meal. Lock the door and stay right inside” he commanded and I knew I dare not disobey that command.

He left, but was back sooner than I even expected.

After letting him in, he placed the meal which was in a tray on the table beside me on the bed, urging me to eat.

I didn't want to, but it felt like a force made me obey. He had gotten me pasta with steak and even though I hadn't admitted to myself that I was hungry, I knew I was.

While I ate, he watched in silence while sitting at the end of the bed, then his hand grabbed mine when he noticed something. He checked my palm, and saw the bruises on my fingers.

The bruises I had gotten while tending to the imperial garden earlier in the day as supervised by Vivienne.

He sighed and I quickly took my hand away from him.

“I'm fine. This is nothing” I told him and quietly resumed eating.

He moved over to my drawers, going through my room like he owns every single thing in it including me. Then he brought out a cream usually applied on wounds from the first aid kit as he held my hand again, applying the cream on it.

This time, I just watched in silence, letting him have his way.

“I'm not doing this because I care, I hope you don't misunderstand” he said.

I felt sad hearing those words but I forced a smile.

“Of course, I know,” I whispered.

Soon, he was done with the balm as he returned it to the kit while I finished my meal up.

“More attacks will come, Sylvia. But I hope you don't get scared, at least not yet”

“Sleep tight” he said, then turned without waiting for a response from me.

My lips parted, words getting stuck in my throat.

I wanted to tell him to stay, that I was scared, but I knew I wouldn't be able to say those words.

I sighed, and just laid back on the bed, my eyes closed, but the sleep had gone far away from my reach.

But soon, sleep took me even though I didn't know how long it took but all I knew was that I woke up so early in the morning.

Having a bath and going through my daily routines, I moved over to the main mansion, doing every chores I knew might be required of me, and even the ones that won't be assigned to me.

Then when the sun had already risen, I sighted Vivienne and Fiona walking side by side as they both laughed while probably discussing something amusing. They had failed to notice me because of their talks and when they almost passed by me, I intentionally made myself visible to them.

Fiona flinched, like she had seen a ghost and that made me chuckle to myself. That confirmed it that she really did send the assassin.

“Good morning, Lady Vivienne. Good morning, princess” I greeted with a wide smile on my face.

Vivienne didn't give a response, instead she just cleared her throat.

“How…..are you doing?” Fiona forced herself to talk.

My smile widened. “As you can see, I'm doing great. And luckily, I survived an assassination attack last night, and here I am, alive and well” I smiled, feeling the need to make them know.

Vivienne's face creased in confusion, while Fiona gasped, her chest heaving so and dropping so hard, her face cladded with shock.

Yes. She had tried to kill me, but I survived.
