Chapter 16

Alpha Nathan's POV

My wolf kept howling in rejection as it threatened to come out.

I groaned and tried to keep my wolf in control.

"Your Highness, are you okay?" Yvonne asked with concern.

" I am.. I'm fine." I responded as I was already feeling irritated by her presence.

"I need to find Catherine as soon as possible," I said to myself as I thought about Yvonne's offer and decided to put it into consideration since I had already given my word to the council members. Moreover, this can give me more time to find Catherine even though my wolf rejected the idea.

" So, what did you say about us being together," Yvonne asked, taking a sip from her wine glass.

" Why don't we talk about that over a cup of coffee, tomorrow in my palace."

"That would be a great idea. I don't have the intention of going back to my pack today anyway. I need to see a friend of mine tomorrow.

" Alright then, I need to go and welcome the guest, see you tomorrow," I said and left the place immediately as I was getting bored and frustrated.

I was leaving for my chamber when I heard someone sobbing in the garden. Out of curiosity, I decided to check who it was.

I was stunned by what I saw, "Princess Petra! What is wrong?! Why are you sobbing." I asked curiously as I saw my sister weeping on the floor.

I hastened my pace towards her with my heart thundering in my chest.

She raised her gaze at me with tears gushing out from my eyes, breaking my heart into pieces.

I envelop her in my embrace as she continues to cry profusely while I pat her back.

" Who dares to make my sister cry?! Is the person tired of living?" I asked myself as I thought of how I was going to punish whoever dared to hurt my sister.

"Calm down and tell me what the problem is. Why are you crying."

" My mate..."

"Your mate? Did you find your mate?" I asked curiously because if she did, it was supposed to be a happy moment.

She has been waiting for this mate bonding ceremony to see if she's lucky enough to find her second mate after she was rejected by her first mate.

She nodded her head, " Yes I found him and... and.. he rejected me again!!!!" she wept uncontrollably, breaking my heart the more as I patted her back to calm her down

I frowned, "What?! Who is he and did he tell you the reason why he rejected you?" I asked in confusion.

"He is Alpha Alex of the Blackwood pack. He told me that he could not have me as his mate and he rejected me in the presence of my friends."

Petra continued weeping as she released herself from my embrace and gazed at me pitifully with her swollen eyes," This is my second rejection Nathan, how unlucky could I be? What should I do now? Am I that bad?." she asked me as she clutched her chest and continued weeping.

I was speechless and didn't know how to comfort her, this was her second rejection and her chance of getting another mate was very slim.

I felt a pang in my chest as I felt sorry for her.

" Why would any man reject a beautiful princess like her?" This is the question I kept asking myself.

I wiped her tears, "Come on, you don't need to hurt yourself because of that, I am very sure the moon goddess will bring you another mate that will accept you."

"When exactly?! The whole pack now laughs at me as they see me as a Whotless princess who was rejected by her mates. Where will I hide my face in shame?!"

I felt a sting in my heart, I couldn't bear to see her in pain. " It's okay, we will find a way out." I comforted her, pulled her up, and guided her to her chamber in order not to attract unnecessary attention.

I guided her to her room and lay her on the bed gently while I continued patting her back before she fell asleep and I exited her room after instructing one of her maids to bring food for her when she woke up.

I stepped into my room and my gaze fell on Catherine's pictures that I pasted on the wall. I pace towards it and gaze at her, "What have you done to me!" I whispered to the pictures as I was trailing my hand on her face with a heavy heart.

I have been having sleepless nights since her disappearance.

"I need to find a way to get over her because I am going through emotional pain which must be a result of the mate bond." I thought to myself before pacing towards the wardrobe to pull off my clothes.

I was in the bathroom bathing when I suddenly thought of a way to get over Catherine.

"I have to marry Yvonne in other to get over her. Yes, that's what I'm gonna do."

The loud sound on my door woke me up from sleep. I groan and squeeze my eyes open as I think of who would dare to disturb my sleep early this morning.

I yelled at whoever was at the door to come in. A maid stepped in and greeted me with her voice slightly trembling.

"What is the problem?" I squinted and asked coldly.

" Your Highness, Princess Petra has refused to eat since last night and Princess Yvonne is here to see you," she informed.

I was worried about my sister as I briskly rose from the bed and headed to the bathroom to freshen up before going to her room.

I was holding the doorknob to Petra's room and was about to open it when I heard someone greeting me from behind.

I spun around and saw Princess Yvonne pacing towards me.

I frowned and gazed at her suspiciously "What are you doing and why would the maids allow you to walk around my palace without my permission."

"Emm... Is not the maid's fault. I was the one who ordered them to show me the way to your room as I have been waiting for a while now." She said, stepping closer to me. I raised my hands to stop her from coming further, making her halt on her track.

"You Highness. You asked me to see you today so that we can discuss over a drink."

"Umm... Catherine. I don't think this is the best time to talk about this now as I...."

"Catherine?" she cut me off and asked, looked at me suspiciously.
