Thrian's POV
The ninth encounter was abruptly ended when I closed my eyes and actually fell asleep. Opening my eyes, I did so only when the next morning came to say that the sun was high up in the sky.
"Fuck, I have things to do. I shouldn't have slept so long," I told myself, scolding me internally for what I've done now. And knowing that no matter how I will try to make up for it, there would surely be consequences.
It took me a moment to gather my senses back and recognize how happy I was. Wow, I was quite relieved that I was still in the tower and no one had taken me away to my doom or something. It was fine, though. But the reason I came here is still in my mind, and the reality that even though I had wasted my night drinking instead of doing something more reasonable, Amelia was still very estranged from me as a result of the mistake I made.
"I would talk with her right now," I told myself, resolutely, as I started marching on my way. First of all, going to my room to clean myself up and handle my morning routine before going straight to her own room.
I was knocking on the door. I knocked again and again, but there was no response whatsoever. I thought to call my friend and called someone. "She's not in her room. The last time she was sighted, she was among the servants just walking among them," someone said.
I might have called Rika but somehow I was just not willing to talk to him yet. He was responsible for what he did to this relationship between me and Amelia, of course, but there was also one part of me that told me that I deserved the blessing that came along. And it was a good deal also. There was a part of me that felt like I should simply accept it without complaining because one way or another, sooner or later, the truth would come out. The truth would always come out.
A piece of advice, echoing in my mind, ringing over and over again. Until I shut it off finally, only to listen to the anger. "Tell me where she'll be right now," I told him and soon I was on my way. Soon I was in the servants' quarters and I looked around, no vision of her anywhere.
"Where is she?" I asked one of the servants who bowed to me.
"What are you talking about exactly?" he questioned, trembling.
"Oh fuck, you don't have to be so scared," I said, taking a minute and a step forward. I just couldn't have him see me like this when I had urgent questions for him to answer. He jittered a little more but stood in place as I continued. "Where is Amelia? Where is my Luna?"
"I don't know," he said, sounding as truthful as a person could sound.
I frowned. I didn't know why, but somehow I expected him to give me my answer. I went straight over to the administrative office and met the leader of our society.
"Where is Amelia?" my mouth had questioned.
"Like I have given it to her to take for safekeeping exactly with white pants, I have no idea. I don't even know if she came here at all," he said, his voice becoming smaller and smaller as I fixed my eyes upon him, my gaze turned into a glare.
"Well damn it, she was here just a moment ago," I said. "Why didn't you tell her to wait?"
He glanced between himself and the second guy seated opposite, a silent call for help, one that I ignored because I couldn't care less for anything but the answer to my question.
"Alpha, we are sorry, sorry, but we don't know where she is, and she probably wasn't here. However," he said quickly when I was about to say something. "However," he continued, raising a finger up and gesturing for me to hold on until he was done. "You can be sure that we can check out the cameras and any other security system in order to figure out where she is right now. We'll do so right now."
"Do it," I spat through gritted teeth in annoyance.
He nodded and whispered to his microphone under his desk. I waited patiently until some footage was brought before me and presented. I watched the video, but the only meaningful thing I got out of it was her leaving. However, I had a couple of other things that happened with her that I couldn't comprehend.
"I've broken her," I told myself, the words barely audible even to myself. I felt very remorseful now. It was like I had made a big mistake and I was going to really pay the price for it one way or another. Sooner or later.
"What have I done? How could I be so foolish?" I questioned myself once again in disbelief. "I should have just told her about it. That way things would not have escalated to this extent," I said to myself with a frown on my face. However, it was done already and there was no undoing this.
I smiled to myself bitterly as I rose up. "I'm going to look for her," I announced, even though they probably didn't care about that at all and there was no reason for me to be telling them. The both men nodded, but I gave them instructions. "If you see her, if there's any trace of her anyway at all," I said, "do you understand?" I questioned again with intensity.
"Yes, Alpha," they said clearly, in unison.
Not happy at their response, I started out after that, taking out my phone to call for her location once again.
"I'm afraid she hasn't been spotted yet anywhere else, and the last place she was spotted has been reported already, which is the servants' quarters," the person on the other end of the line said.
"Fuck it," I spat through gritted teeth. Was she hiding from me? Was she doing this on purpose? Because that's how it seems right now, and I hated it.
I stood slowly with a frown on my face, realizing that I hadn't even given her a single call myself. The physical meeting was much more effective. It was what I wanted, but also so that I could really express myself. But maybe I needed to reach out first. There was no saying what she would say in response to a call from me, whether she would even pick it up. So first I requested one of them to do the honors for me and see how it would go in the end.
"Yes," the person said simply, and then ended the call. Waiting for me to call myself. I had already resigned myself. She shouldn't pick my call. So when she did, my eyes widened in shock as I looked at my phone in disbelief, wondering what to say, how to start a conversation now that things actually seem to somehow be going my way.
"Amelia, it's me," I breathed, my skin tingling just at the thought of an audience with her finally.
"The Alpha?" she questioned. Somehow I was dumb, numb after that, not knowing what answer to give. She might very well end the call the moment I revealed my identity.
"I know it's you," she said finally. "What do you want? Why did you call me?"
"I would like to meet you," I told her, getting my composure back, always formal in such a way that it was surprising even to me. "I would really like for us to have a heart-to-heart with each other. I could explain everything to you. You don't need to be angry with me anymore. All your questions will be answered, I promise," I said.
"Of course," she said slowly, "my questions might be answered, but answered with lies," she continued. It was a dagger to my heart.
"No thanks, I think I'd rather find you outside my cell. Maybe you can also tell your cronies to stop disturbing me with phone calls," she requested. "It's actually rather annoying right now," she said, leaving me in disbelief before she ended the call abruptly.
I couldn't help but stare out into space for a while, in shock. Whatever wound I had inflicted on her, it was festering now.
