Hundred and Twelve

Hundred and Twelve

Ryker's POV

The moment I heard about what was going on, I couldn't help but feel incredibly angry and frustrated. Whatever could have happened, I wondered, unable to believe that she was gone. I wanted to say that it was all the fault of the Alpha, that he should have taken care of her and protected her a little more, but I knew better. There were many other people for me to blame, and I already had a pretty good option who to start with.

Even though it was very remote and I would think that no one is there, I could fathom how he would get to her from such a distance away. I suspected Davis. Davis had always had unconventional interests in her, so I wouldn't put it past him to do something drastic like kidnapping her if he had a chance. Coupled up with the previous humiliation that had taken place with him when the Alpha was around, I couldn't see a better person to blame for what had happened. He was the only reason I could think of, and with every moment I thought about it, I only got angrier and angrier.

I got a phone call at that moment, and soon I knew it was the Alpha himself calling me. What he wanted, I didn't really have a clue. We were all driving speedily towards where she had last been, and we had a couple of policemen and investigators with us so that we could easily figure out what was going on because, as much as I would like to say I was good enough for the task, it wasn't really my expertise in truth.

I took in a deep breath as the cars slowed to a stop, even as his voice started sounding in my ears from the loudspeaker phone. "I have a suspicion," he said, the coldness in his voice could be felt as he continued. "I think it's the other Alpha, Alpha Jerome," he continued, "and I am pretty sure Davis has a hand in this too."

I laughed a little, the sound annoying even in my own ears. There was no reason for me to be laughing now, but I somehow just couldn't help it. "I have the same suspicion," I told him simply. "However, there's no proof whatsoever, and we can't just say what we aren't sure about. If not, there will be consequences for the pack."

There was silence in the air for a while. I knew he was contemplating what I said and wondering how to piece together a solution. "What's your plan?" I asked him. "You intend to simply march up into his pack to accuse him of something you aren't sure about?" I questioned, my voice bitter.

He seemed to recognize the harsh tone that I used when speaking to him, but he didn't sound offended for some reason. Maybe he understood that I simply hated what was going on now, and just like him, I wanted a solution, some reason for it to stop.

"That's not my solution," he told me. "But I don't think that they'll take her to somewhere like his pack."

"Once again," I told him, "most likely he'll be off to a different location. If we can simply find that, it won't take more from us to convict him."

I listened to what he thought was the problem, the way he pictured it in his head. I had to admit there was some sense in it. In some way, the explanation he presented wasn't too far-fetched, and it could be the actual answer to the question that we both had on our way about.

"So she is not in the palace?"

"I don't think so, or in his territory," he responded, his voice resolute as if he was already very sure of it.

"Well, if that's true, then that's great. It gives us a level playing field to get her back for ourselves," he told me.

I nodded in agreement. However, already I was starting to have a sort of idea that I didn't hesitate to share with him since we both had a common goal, the aim of getting her back. "What do you think of the both of us trying to track her down through her phone?" I said.

He sounded apprehensive. "It would surely be already destroyed by now or kept in a strange location far away from her."

I said these words carefully as that didn't yield any results. I frowned but pushed on with my points. "You shouldn't write that idea off so quickly," I said. "Even if it's far away, it will only throw a couple of us off if we are careful enough."

There was silence before he finally spoke. "Fine then, we'll try to track her. You also go with half of our troops to get her back," he told me. "Meanwhile, I'll be here with the others, and we'll try our best to investigate to find out what's going on."

I sneered a little because somehow I just felt like my idea was better, like it was going to work out. I didn't hesitate to get away and to go with a couple of soldiers with me once I made sure that I had the precise location of her phone. Hopefully, it would be correct and she would also be there.

It was leading me to the forest somewhere. There didn't seem a very nice stronghold for the enemy to stay in, so I found myself apprehensive as I wondered what I should do, if I could continue going, because already it seemed like a lost cause. I simply couldn't see why there would be anyone in this position. It wasn't sophisticated at all, and if the enemy really wanted to have his way with her or anything like that, which might as well be the main goal of capturing her, would he want to do it in some way so primitive?

However, I refrained from asking questions and simply followed the only lead that I had, that all of us had, hoping that it would lead us to where I truly wanted to go. Soon it would be hours. A couple of minutes later, and I saw that we were now headed deep into the forest. The car was moving faster and faster, but I needed to slow down upon myself because of just how treacherous the journey was getting.

After a minute of hesitation, I took out my phone to call the Alpha. Somehow, at first, a strange sense of danger that I shouldn't be feeling started creeping in. Somehow, I started wondering whether there might actually be some trouble after all, and we might be on the road to something. I didn't know why I thought that way, but I just seemed to think that we were on the right track and that I needed to be very careful now, if not things were going to go south without my wanting it.

As if right on cue, I could hear some voices now, and they sounded like men who were deliberating. I came out of my car, telling the people with me to stop. If I could hear their voices, then they could probably even hear my cars that had come with me, and I needed to make sure that I was as stealthy as possible. If not, there would be absolutely no point in running towards them like this. I needed to make sure that they weren't aware of what was going on right now, that I was very close.

But I rounded a corner and my eyes widened as I stared at what was before me. My phone in my hand trembled as my hand curled into fists. Amelia was there standing, being pressed against a tree. Davis was before her, so close to her that his body pressed against hers. He planted a kiss on her lips, one that was full of ravenous passion, but it was all lust—there was nothing of love in it. She looked disgusted, moving her face away, but she was already pinned to the wall, not just by him but by two burly men that made sure she couldn't move or resist him at all.

My eyes flared out as I wanted to end this immediately. His hand was going to her hem and he was trying to raise it up right now. The look on his face, lecherous—the pervert, I thought to myself as she struggled fruitlessly against them. If there was anything that was lucky, it was that they hadn't harmed her yet, and I couldn't see bruises on her though her face was red, probably from a couple of slaps.

"So just serve me well if you want to survive at all, even though as a captive," Davis was saying. "I'll take you as a sex slave, but think about it—isn't that much, much better than dying?" he asked her.

She spat in his face, his eyes widening. But then he laughed as he came closer to her, his teeth resting on her neck. I watched as he was about to mark her. I couldn't hold myself in any longer. I pounced, forgetting that I had a gun with me and that I could shoot from a distance. That kind of reason left me completely out of control, and that was why I couldn't think of a better way to take the situation. I simply ended up doing the first thing in my mind.

Luckily, I managed to throw him off her. But unluckily, I had revealed myself and not in the most beautiful way to the men who were glaring at me. I was caught red-handed—they now knew that I was around and they were pretty much ready to face off against me without any restraints. However, even though this was a tactical mistake, I was ready to go too. If it came down to fists, then I was willing to fight to the death.
