Chapter 56 THE WOMB OF LIES
Medea's POV
It felt like a year had passed before I was able to find my voice.
"Eclipse.. what do you mean when you say I can't get pregnant?" The words trickled out of my mouth like blood from a wound, I clutched her arms. "Is it because I haven't been able to give birth for the past 5 years? That was just bad luck but now this treatment…it's going to change everything…won't it?"
Eclipse was not the type to bluff, she would say something and mean it.
Which means….
She led me over to a rock by that time my breathing was already erratic, it was like my throat was closing up and it only got worse the more she spoke.
"It happened years ago not long after we chased Celestia out, remember Sienna?"
.
My blood went cold hearing that name.
"How could I forget that woman? She was almost more vicious than you…" I was trying to joke about the matter but my heart was beating so fast that I could hear it drumming in my ears.
"She was the daughter of a mid-ranked wolf visiting from another pack, but her family had a good connection with the Alpha of this pack. She was clearly eyeing the lunar position. So I decided to clip her wings before she could even fly. This was a plan I carried out without even telling you….I…" she paused and I reached for her, "...please continue…"
So she told me how she procured a poison that, once ingested by any woman. It would completely render their womb useless, nothing more than a husk carried within them.
"I planted it into her food, I think she found out and switched it on purpose with yours. Remember when you were sick some years back? Yeah, that was the poison you were showing all the effects that it was supposed to have and I just knew you had taken it…But I thought I could figure out a way to fix it without having to tell you,"
After she was done speaking I sank my fingers into my flesh and pinched so hard but felt nothing.
Just a pure emptiness, a void where my feelings should be.
I stood up from the rock.
"You're lying…" I said my voice trembling, ".. there's nothing wrong with me I'm going to be able to carry Raphael's baby safe and sound we are going to have the loveliest pups…"
She tried to hold me back but I wasn't listening. I pushed her grip away.
"I don't need your sympathy, I'm completely fine! You're just confused, Eclipse! Confused and jealous because I have a loving mate while you change men every day like they're panties. I'm going to have a big happy family, none of the nonsense you're telling me right now is going to change that.."
I could test salt in my mouth, I brushed over it, and felt my fingers get wet from the tears.
Why was I crying?! It would look like I believed any of the nonsense that she was spouting to me and I didn't.
Not one single bit.
I started to march away, and she came after me grabbing my arm to hold me still.
"Medea, this is not the time to get emotional! We need to figure out…"
"A solution?" I hissed pulling out of her grip like it was wet tissue. "I already have one. I'm going to go back home and do it with my mate as many times as necessary so that I don't have to worry about him missing, I'll give birth to the future leader of this pack just you watch and see!"
Her lips fell into a thin line, tight and withdrawn.
"You're making this more difficult than it has to be."
I didn't respond to that, there was no reason for me to waste precious breath on all the lies she was blabbing into my ear.
As I returned to where the guards were I snapped at them. I don't know what I said but I knew that some of my anger had eased after that.
A lot of that anger remained and something deeply concentrated inside it that I did not want to acknowledge for the life of me.
I refused to acknowledge it.
I will get pregnant soon.
Very soon, then this won't be a lie anymore.
My feet carried me into the living room of the park house and I saw three elders, two of them were female and one of them was a male, all of them were healers.
In an instant, my heart almost stopped.
These were people with years of experience behind them, I didn't care for these old geezers, always too nosy for me.
But now I had to regard them because they could immediately blow up my secret.
"Elders…welcome to the alpha pack House, I wish I could entertain you but I have-"
"Luna Medea…" Hearing my proper title being attached to my name without any hint of sarcasm had me slowing down and before I knew it the old hag had caught up to me blocking any way of escaping without looking like I was trying to really do so.
"We've heard about the wonderful news…" she said beaming from ear to ear, "... It couldn't have come a moment too soon,"
Stupid hag, it's not like she wasn't complicit in kicking Celestia out. Nobody decided to stick their neck out for her when they thought she was too much trouble but she was one of the many who never approved of me taking the title from Celestia.
Why was she acting all buddy-buddy with me now? The pregnancy…maybe…and if she and these elders acknowledged me that must mean that the others do too.
"We were supposed to have a meeting with the Alpha this morning but unfortunately it was canceled. However, we felt like we had to see you. What would you say for us to hold a celebration ceremony for the Alpha's unborn pup?"
