Chapter 55 THE PREGNANCY GAMBIT
Medea's POV
I'm a genius!
A freaking genius!
If I knew my plan was going to work out so well I would have done this ages ago!
Raphael has not said a word to me ever since I told him I was pregnant, almost like how we used to be in the past him being gentle and kind he didn't even let me walk back to the bedroom sweeping me off my feet and placing me down like I was made of glass.
He was feeding the Apple slices when a servant knocked and entered our lounge and informed him that he was supposed to start preparing for a meeting with the Elder Council.
Ugh, those stupid meetings of theirs.
They have about two dozen of them every day!
I'm finally getting to enjoy my mate again and they think they can just snatch him off like that?
"Sweetheart…" he said and it was like music to my ears, "I hope you understand I have to go now the council needs to see me, I should have even started preparing earlier than this but the meeting slipped my mind."
It was hard enough to smile when he said that it had been so long since he treated me like his number one priority and gliding back into those shoes felt great.
Now I didn't want him to go to that meeting.
He should be here with me.
His lovely wife.
Not bothered with all their announcements.
Besides, whenever he leaves a council meeting he always comes back with a sour mood, I didn't want that.
But I couldn't just tell him not to go.
That wouldn't fit my docile meat image, so instead I dipped my head downwards pouting and pretending to look away.
"It's fine you can go."
He didn't say anything for a while, just kept looking at me, then he gradually stood up, and seeing that he was actually going to leave, I clutched my stomach.
He sat down pretty quickly after that.
"Are you okay?" He asked in immediate panic.
I smiled, "Yes…you don't have to worry I'm…" I clutched my stomach tighter, he looked at the servants and snapped at them.
"What are you just doing standing there? Get a doctor!"
I didn't want any of the other doctors to see me so I clutched on to Raphael and told him that I only wanted it to be treated by the female doctor because I felt more comfortable that way he agreed to this easily and I was able to wiggle myself out of the hole I was digging saying that I didn't feel too bad maybe what I eating earlier didn't just settle well in my stomach.
He was skeptical, but after much pleading, we settled on getting a checkup from my personal doctor later.
"Are you sure you're really feeling alright?" He asked me for about the millionth time.
I nodded.
"Yes I'm completely fine you don't have to worry about me one bit," his reluctance bubbled and he eventually decided that he was going to stay with me.
"But what about your meeting? I would hate for you to miss it…" I said even though that was exactly my intention.
He waved his hand dismissing my fake concerns.
"The meeting can be rescheduled, but I don't want anything to happen to you so I'll stay here for a little bit longer."
It was hard to keep such a neutral look on my face when I wanted to beam so badly.
Finally, my life was falling into place
Later when I went to take some fresh air in the woods I was being escorted by some guards. Raphael before the pregnancy announcement would have just passively told me to be careful but now he was being so caring.
As we were walking through the woods I noticed that something was amiss.
I told the guards to pay attention and eventually I found out that someone was indeed following us. One of the guards went to find the person, and he returned with my sister Eclipse.
She knocked off the grip of the guard and marched over to me.
"Sis we need to talk.." she looked between the other guard, "alone.." I followed her telling the guards to give us some privacy. We were still within Pack House territory so it's not like we had much to worry about anyway.
The moment we were out of sight, Eclipse tried to slap me.
She would have hit me if my reflexes were not faster.
"By the moon goddess, what is wrong with you? Did you break up with one of your many boytoys?"
"My boy toys are none of your business," she said through a hiss, "but seriously what is wrong with you, Medea? I told you not to make any trouble, I told you to be careful and just let me do my thing."
I tightened my fingers until they had balled up into tight fists.
"You were always underestimating me even though I'm your older sister you had no respect for me. I just had to prove to you that I could carry out my own scheme without your help and look what I did…" I walked past her whipping my hair in her face.
She snarled and took a step back.
"Is it true? Are you going around telling everyone that you're pregnant?"
I stopped, turned around, and came to face her again.
"Desperate times call for desperate measures, but it's no biggie. Just a tiny white lie. In a short while, I'll be able to get pregnant. I've already started looking into some new fertility treatments and…"
"Shut up!" She suddenly caught me off guard and then lowered her voice, "How could you do this? Everything we have worked for is going to unravel at the seams all because of you.
I was getting annoyed at the implication of her words.
"Nothing is going to unravel or whatever, I'll get pregnant and…"
"You won't…" she interrupted me again, her voice suddenly cracking, "you can't."
