Chapter 37 SHARDS OF CONTROL
Raphael's POV
Everyone had a tipping point, and I was no different despite my greater patience as an alpha but there was only so much I could take from somebody just because they were my mate.
Lifting myself off the bed avoiding several pieces of broken glass as I approached her she stood in the midst of her destruction but I reached her eventually and grabbed her arm with more force than intended, growling underneath my breath.
"What exactly is wrong with you? Media do not forget before I am your mate I am your Alpha first you are supposed to respect me and not disregard that is mine, "
Her eyes brimmed with fresh tears.
"That blasted title of yours, who cares?"
My eyes widened so far they might have nearly popped out of their sockets. My hold on her intensified and I even went for her other arm clenching it so she wouldn't move.
"The media knows that insulting the alpha name is dangerously close to treason, and you know what the punishment for treason is, don't you?"
A flash of fear went through her face then it was backed up by that same stubbornness of the house that could be either appealing or annoying depending on the moment.
This was not the moment of appeal.
"What are you going to do then? Are you going to treat me the same way you treated her? Is that all I am to you now? Are you going to get rid of me so that you can put her back in her proper position?"
"Maybe I will," I had only said it to hurt her a little bit to make her feel just a part of the distress that was stumbling through my head like an untamed storm.
But perhaps it went too far, she fell apart in an instant stomping about and carelessly stepping on the shards of glass not as an accident but basically with full intentions of hurting herself.
I lifted her and carried her away to the guest bedroom while I mind-linked a servant to clean up all the glass all through that she was kicking and screaming yelling at me nevertheless I still carried her over in a few moments I flopped her on the bed and there was blood oozing out of her leg.
"We need to clean this up," I said trying to reach for her then she slapped my hand away.
"Tell me the truth, you saw her and you wanted her back didn't you?" She speared the question at me like an accusation, "You took one look at her and realized that you made the wrong choice and now you're trying to figure out a way to get rid of me that's it isn't it? You're just biding your time until it's perfect then you put me out the door kick me out of my nose before I realize it you-"
I shut her up with a kiss, it wasn't one of passion, merely one of pent-up frustration clearly giving her the words she wanted. It was the only thing that could shut her up, calm that big mouth of hers.
She gave herself into the kiss I wasn't in the mood but I carried on with the motions until she finally had her way then she was nuzzling close to me her leg had healed, our continuous copulation over the years had strengthened her healing abilities, the only thing I have to worry about later on would be the blood stains.
But in all truth, it's not like that was the worst of my problems, not even close.
A moment of passion was great but what are we going to do about everything going down? With the Elder council down on our necks making demands that I could not fulfill.
It felt like the beginning of the end.
But things were about to get worse.
Oh, they were way about to get so much worse.
Morning came and with it an opportunity to start curbing some of my dilemmas. Thankfully Medea wanted to sleep in so I wouldn't have to worry about her for a while. I went to wash myself and dress for the day I went over to my son's room.
Well, not his actual room.
There was a place that had been prepared to look like his own room, but there was a covert door that actually led to his real room, the one that had his medication and everything, the place where he spent his time fighting for his life when he was too young to even fully understand what that meant.
I made a mind link over to the doctor currently working his shift. The door leading to the other room clicked open and I saw a slim image of my son on his bed with the feeding toes. I turned away covering my mouth and inhaling deeply till my ribs hurt.
As my back was turned to him I asked the doctor.
"His condition, is it getting any better?"
There was a second of silence too long.
I snapped impatiently, "Tell me if my son is getting better or not! I don't pay you to stand there and mop at me,"
"He is not out of the woods yet but... He will be soon,"
I felt my chest getting a little bit lighter.
"That's good news right?" I said to the doctor for more reassurance, "This means that he'll be just as healthy as other boys his age, perhaps even better right?"
I knew I was deluding myself as I spoke, but I did so anyway I held on to that string of hope like a madman because that was what I had to hold on to there was nothing else.
I had nothing else but time right now, and that became even more evident when there was a knock on the door followed by a servant quickly rushing in.
"Alpha Raphael three members of the Elder council wish to see you,"
