Chapter 44

Savannah’s POV

My head was hurting and I was convinced that someone was hitting me with a hammer. As soon as I sat up I panicked. I had no idea who I was, let alone where I was. I tried to think about memories, but nothing surfaced from my personal life. I knew I was a witch and an angel. I knew powerful spells, but I didn’t know who I was.

“Don’t panic. It’s okay, I won’t hurt you.”

“Who are you? Who am I? Where am I?”

“My name is Dalia and I’m a friend. Your name is Rose and you’re in my house in Salem.”

“Why can’t I remember my past except that I’m a witch and an angel and a bunch of spells?”

“You had an accident. When I found you, you were terrified. You were running from your family, who wanted to kill you for who you are.”

“How do you know all this?”

“This wasn’t the first time we met. You were hiding when I came across you and offered you my help. You said you had to go back and try once again. This time I won’t let you get back and get yourself killed. What kind of spells do you know?”

“Honestly, all of it just floats in my brain, but I can’t tell you. I can only feel them. So, what now? Won’t my family find me?”

“No. The two of us are unstoppable. I have a unique magic and so do you. My family threw me aside too. What do you say? Will you join me and take revenge on the people that hurt us?”

“What do I have to do?”

“Trust me. There’s someone outside who was following you. I captured her just in time, before she reported back to your family. You can’t let her live or you’ll be the one who’s dead.”

“I don’t think I can kill anyone, Dalia.”

“Do you want to die then?”

“No! That’s not what I’m saying.”

“Then try out some of those spells and get rid of her.”

I didn’t know what to think, honestly. I had no recollection of my past and I was contemplating whether I should trust Dalia or not. Then I thought about what she said. My own family wanted me dead. Suddenly a spell popped into my mind. I didn’t want to become a murderer and this spell might be more useful.

“What if we control her instead of killing her?”

“What do you mean?”

“Just now a spell popped into my mind that allows me to control everyone I want. You said you wanted to take revenge. You’ll need an army for that, who’ll be loyal.”

“Perfect! Let’s see how this works.”

I followed Dalia to the basement, where a woman was chained to the wall. When she saw Dalia she was begging to let her go. I began chanting in my mind and she stopped. After I finished she was silent. Then she bowed her head while facing me.

“Interesting. You have to teach me the spell too, just in case you’re not with me.”

I opened my mouth to recite the spell, but nothing came out. I knew the words, but something prevented me from saying them out loud.

“I can’t. Every time I try something prevents me from actually saying the words. I can try and write it down.”

“I’ll unchain her and then I’ll give you some paper and a pen.”

As soon as the chains released the woman she stood up and started following me up the stairs. A minute later Dalia gave me the paper. The same thing happened. I couldn’t move the pen on the paper when I wanted to write down the spell.

“I can’t. I’m sorry, Dalia.”

“It’s okay. Do you remember where the grimoire that contains the spell is?”

“No, I don’t. Don’t worry, I’ll cast the spell every time it’s needed.”

“I don’t worry about that at all. As long as we work together nobody can stop us.”

“Thank you for helping me, Dalia. I’ll be by your side. What’s your final achievement?”

“To rule the supernatural world and now with your help that will be possible.”

“When do you want to start?

“When you’re ready. Do you feel ready?”

“Yes, I feel strong.”

“Then we start tomorrow.”

“Can you tell me about my family? Who are they?”

“From what you told me your mother is a witch and your father is an angel. Everything was fine until you got your powers. You were stronger than the witches and angels combined. They said you’re a threat to everyone and you need to die. That’s all you told me. I don’t know anything else.”

“I know it’ll sound strange, but I don’t want to kill them. It’d be better if they became part of the army. They wanted to kill me and now they’ll follow me instead.”

“It’s your family, so the decision is yours.”

“Thank you. Where are we going tomorrow?”

“I was thinking that we should start here, in Salem. There are a lot of witches and our work will be easier if they’re under your control.”

“Then why not start today? If we gather them together somehow it’ll be over in a minute.”

“Are you sure you're up to it? You just woke up after you were unconscious for a week.”

“I’m feeling stronger than ever, I think. I’ll be fine.”

“Let’s go then. I know where they live.”

The two of us left the house. On our way I tried to remember, but all I got was a headache. The town was quiet, we barely encountered people.

“I can’t go further. The witches put up a barrier against me. I tried to destroy it with my magic, but it was useless even though I’m stronger than them.”

“That’s not a problem. Give me a minute.”

I could feel the barrier pulsating as I neared it. As I touched it I easily shattered it. Not even a minute later, witches gathered on the streets, ready to fight us. A woman led them and when she saw me she muttered something which I couldn’t understand.

“Savannah, what’s happening?”

“I’m not Savannah, my name is Rose and you’ll know it soon.”

“What are you talking about? What happened to you?”

“I think you know that. My family wants me dead and I want to live.”

“Nobody wants you dead, Savannah. Dalia’s lying. I don’t know why you lost your memories, but don’t listen to her.”

“Soon you’ll understand.”

I started chanting in my head and the witches one by one gave up the fight. It was satisfying to see their freedom being ripped away from them.

“We have to go back. We might have company and you shouldn’t overexert yourself.”

“Why do you think that?”

“I think she sent out a letter when she saw us. Witches, go back to your houses and wait for my command.”

Dalia’s command did nothing. The witches were still standing in the middle of the street like they didn’t even hear Dalia. And boy, she looked furious.

“I said, go back to your homes and wait!”

“Let me try it. Witches, go home and wait for us.”

One by one the witches turned around and headed home. Seemed like only I could control them and judging by Dalia’s expression she didn’t like this.

“Why can’t I control them?”

“I don’t know. Probably because I was the one who cast the spell.”

“So, let me get this straight. You said I’ll have an army, but right now only you have an army at your disposal.”

“I didn’t know how the spell would work out. Let me remind you that I lost my memories and have now idea how the majority of the spells I know work. You barely told me anything about who I am, so excuse me for not knowing what to do.”

“I was the one who helped you, you ungrateful brat. If I’d left you there on the ground on the verge of passing out you’d be dead by now.”

“Why did that woman call me Savannah? You said my name is Rose.”

“She wanted to confuse you, so you’d turn against me. Don’t tell me you believed her?”

“I’m not sure who to believe anymore when one person says one thing and another person the opposite.”

“Listen to me! I won’t tolerate disobedience.”

“Or what? You need me. You can’t do anything to me. I’m not even sure that you’re as strong as you make me believe.”

“Don’t test me! My magic is different from yours and I’ll show you. Now let’s get out of here.”

“I’m not testing you, but nothing makes sense. I don’t know what your problem is, but you should get your act together. It’s not my fault that I can’t tell you the spells, because something’s blocking me from doing so. You didn’t show me anything, yet you want to see everything.”

“When the time comes you’ll see it.”

“You’re unbelievable. Either you don’t trust me or you don’t have powers and that’s why you need me so desperately.”

“We’ll talk about this at home. Let’s go, we’ll have company soon.”

“Then we should greet them.”

“It’s not time for that yet.”

“I’m afraid it’s too late for that, Dalia. Give up this revenge.”
