Chapter 40
Savannah's POV
“Who?”
“No idea, the seers only saw her back as she was chanting, facing Dalia.”
“When?”
“All they know is in the near future. Savannah, you need to take training seriously. You have to be ready.”
“I will be, grandma. Tomorrow I'll start training with my cousins too. If we're meant to fight side by side we basically have to move and think as one.”
“You're right about that.”
“I'll get going. I need to call the others and warn them. They need to start preparing too.”
“Absolutely not! You don't know who the traitor is. If you tell them, Dalia would hear about our plans. The witches are strong, they don't need any more excessive training. I'll write a letter to your mate. You have to stay out of this.”
“Fine. Take my agreement as a sign of trust. I won't be reckless, but please, tell me everything once you hear from him.”
“I will, dear, I promise.”
Doom's day was approaching and there was nothing I could do to stop it. I could only stop Dalia once she had dark magic. I couldn't imagine who would betray me and the other witches. For the rest of the day I was walking back and forth. I desperately wanted to stop Dalia before she could access the dark magic, but things weren't supposed to work out that way. My mind went haywire and I somehow fell asleep on the couch before Gabriel came home.
*“I'm leaving with her soon.”
*“After she finds the place you know what to do.”
*“Of course, Jeremy. No matter the outcome she won't live to tell the tale.”
*“Why did she agree, anyway?”
*“Something about Iris casting out her entire family from the coven. Honestly, I wasn't paying attention to her sad and pathetic story.”
*“She really believed that you'd make her the second strongest witch?”
*“I know, it's pathetic. What about that bitch? Where is she?”
*“Nobody knows. She's either with my so-called family, or with her mate. When I get my magic back I'm sure she'll come out of hiding.”
*“What about that grimoire?”
*“I don't know where Iris hid it for sure.”
*“You're useless. You don't know where she is or where the grimoire is. Do you know anything at all?”
*“I'm getting fed up with you, Jeremy. I'm doing this for you too.”
*“Find that grimoire before you attack. The spells must be powerful and you'll need every help you can get. If that little whore finds it we're doomed.”
*“Wait! Stop talking.”
*“What?”
*“I feel like we're not alone. Someone's here.”
*“Who? Where? I can't see anybody.”
*“I swear I feel someone watching us.”
*“Since when?”
*“Just now. I don't know why I can feel the presence. Unless, no it's not possible.”
*“What? Better spit out everything or you won't get to see another sunrise.”
*“It's a seer, but not the usual kind. It's an angel too. When I was a teen I found this ancient book about prophecies. One caught my eyes. It was about an angel who will have powers like no other. She'll be invincible when she's born. She'll see the evil intentions in the form of visions. Seers see the future, not the present. This one doesn't know what she or he's doing. Seers cannot get attached to the moment for too long or the ones they're spying on will know they're there.”
*“Why are you telling this? This seer can clearly hear you.”
*“You’re the one who demanded to know everything. Don't blame this on me.”
*“Can you kill it?”
*“No. Not until I know who it is.”
*“Then figure it out!”
*“How? I can feel, not see.”
*“Figure something out!”
*“I can't, Jeremy. If we can get this angel or seer or whatever on our side we'll surely win. If I kill him or her we might not stand a chance.”
*“Once he or she leaves we'll discuss this further. I don't know how much he or she heard.”
*“Why us?”
*“They can't control their visions. He or she’s here at the moment. Like I said, seers foresee the future, not the present. The future can still be manipulated, the present cannot.”
*“If you still want to get rid of him or her we have to keep the soul here until it's stuck here forever. The body will be alive wherever it is, but the person will never wake up.”
*“Let's go with that. I have a bad feeling about this and I'd rather not take any chances.”
*“Okay, if you're sure.”
*“Wait a minute, how do you know that the soul will be trapped here?”
*“I don't know for sure, but I think I've read it somewhere.”
*“Savannah, let's go. You have to come with me if you want to live. I'm Clementina, a seer. Take my hand and come with me. I know you can hear me even if you can't move. You need to be willing to leave, okay? I can't do more for you. I hope I'll see you opening your eyes in a minute.”*
Everything felt fuzzy, but at least I could feel my body. I could hear people shouting at each other and someone tried to calm them down. With some effort I opened my eyes and a pair of silver ones were directly above me.
“Welcome back, Savannah! I'm Clementina. Do you remember me?”
“Yes. You were somehow in my dream.”
“It wasn't a dream. It was a vision. It was all real, but you were there for too long and your soul almost got stuck. You have to leave before it's too late. I'll teach you. You're not like us though. You see the present. These are your angel powers, which I have no idea how came to the surface before you made a sacrifice.”
“Does this mean that what I saw was real?”
“Every single bit of it. Everybody was worried. Gabriel couldn't wake you up. They're outside, blaming each other. Who do you want to see?”
“Everybody. I need to tell them what's happening. But if something like this happens, how do I leave? It was like I couldn't feel my body.”
“It's all about your mind. I know you can't sense time, like you usually do, but there are signs. Naturally, visions end when they're supposed to. If you desperately want to see more they continue. It's really hard to leave after that. It's like a punishment. You're not supposed to see everything you're not meant to see and that's why you get a punishment. No matter what you see, you have to be objective. You cannot get lost in it.”
“I'm sorry.”
“You had no idea that was a vision. You had no idea what to do, so don't apologize. Visions work in a mysterious way, but I cannot help you all the time. You need to learn to let go no matter what you see.”
“I will, I promise.”
“Perfect! Now, I'm leaving and on my way out I'll let the others in. I'll start working with you tomorrow.”
It was a lot to take it in. I almost got stuck between life and death. It was almost worth it, because I got to know more about Dalia's plans. They found a witch and for some spells they need Iris' grimoire too. And what was about that prophecy? Was there another about me? My thinking was interrupted when the door burst open and six people at once tried to barrel through the door.
“Heavens! Little cousin, you scared us.”
“Savannah, what happened? I couldn't wake you up.”
“We're supposed to protect you from others, not from yourself.”
“That's enough! Let my granddaughter tell us what happened exactly.”
“I'm sorry guys. I had a vision about Dalia. I thought it was just a dream and that I'd eventually wake up. I stayed there for too long, but Clementina helped me in time. Apparently, having visions is connected to my angel powers.”
“What did you see?”
“They found a witch who's helping them. They're leaving soon. They also want Iris' grimoire for the spells.”
“You mean, they'll find the witch.”
“No grandma. They've already found the witch. I'm different from other seers. I'm not seeing the future, I'm seeing the present. And apparently, there's some kind of prophecy about an angel with great powers who'll see evil intentions in the form of visions and we'll be invincible.”
“Not possible. If the prophecy is about you we'd have known about it when you were born.”
“Grandma, that prophecy was created way before I was born. Dalia said she was just a teenager when she came across it in some kind of ancient book full of prophecies.”
“I was sure that book was lost eons ago. No one knows what happened to the book. I don't even know what kind of prophecies are in it. My father always told me that those prophecies bring no good and if even one of them is not fulfilled all kinds of life will be extinct.”
“Great! Another thing I'm responsible for. But can I believe Dalia's words? She said all this after she sensed my presence.”
“I don't know, dear. I wish I could tell you, but the angels who saw that book no longer live. Even though we're immortal, once we live long enough we lose our willpower to live and we die.”
“Let me get this straight. The prophecies about us when we're born have two kinds of outcome; good or bad. They don’t necessarily have to be fulfilled. Only the outcome changes, but that doesn't mean the end of the world. The prophecies in the book have to be fulfilled if we don't want the world to end.
“Exactly.”
“Is it possible for the book to be in the witches’ realm?”
“Anything's possible, but don't look for the book. You're better off without it.”
“I'm not planning to look for it. I don't think I want to know how many times the world almost ended.”
“Wise choice. You have a lot on your plate. It's time to share it with the others. I'm leaving you with these six.”
“Where's dad?”
“He doesn't know what happened. You can tell him later if you want to.”
“Well, it seems like we'll be fighting soon.”
“And we'll be ready when that time comes. Little cousin, we're here for you. Don't shut us out.”
“I won't, Cael. Not anymore. I can't do this alone anymore. It's too much.”
“I know things weren't the best and still not between us, but Savannah, please let me in just like you let King Zamyr in.”
“I promise you this Gabriel. Deep down I've already given you the chance. I don't want to lose you just as I don't want to lose Zamyr.”
“I don't want to interrupt you, lovebirds, but this is getting too lovey-dovey for me.”
“Was this really necessary, Angelo?”
“Of course it was, little cousin. You're basically like a sister to us. No big brother wants to see his sister being this affectionate with a guy.”
“I love you guys too.”
The moment was perfect. For a while I could forget about my responsibilities and just enjoy the moment. The threat was real, but I needed some normalcy in my life right now. Tomorrow will be different. Tomorrow we might be fighting for our lives.
