Chapter 35
Savannah’s POV
“I don't believe you. I know a witch who came here before.”
“Ah, yes, Iris. She was special, but she was only here for a minute. After that the veil forced her out. I'm sure your mother isn't that strong. She doesn't have a chance. You were clever to hide her among the witches.”
“Yes, Iris. Why did she come here?”
“I think you know that. She didn't succeed and her grimoire is now lost inside the veil. It's gone.”
“Excuse me.”
I stood up and left the dining room. The grimoire was gone. That was the only reason I stayed here. Why didn't Iris tell me this? And what about her words to her daughter? There had to be a way around the veil. I needed that grimoire. It belongs to me and my family.
“I had no idea about this, darling.”
“I know, dad. The only reason I somewhat accepted being here was because of the grimoire. I refuse to believe that it's gone.”
“I know, but my mother is right. If the grimoire was here, you'd have felt it. At least that's what your mother told me about grimoires. If it's in the veil there's no way to retrieve it.”
“There has to be something that can be done.”
“I'm sorry, darling. It's gone. Now, come back and let's enjoy dinner. Your cousins don't agree with my mother, you know. When you stormed out they defended you. Don't let anyone see how devastated you are. You cannot break the seal, but you can try to accept your life.”
“What was about you being the chosen one?”
“When an angel is born into the royal family, a prophecy is born with them. It determines everyone's destiny and legacy. Mine is to rule. My brothers are destined to help and encourage me after I ascend the throne.”
“What about me and my cousins?”
“I'll let them explain that to you. As for you, you're destined to unite the supernatural races.”
“What? Does anybody else know this?”
“Everybody. That's why my mother is keeping you locked up here.”
“I still don't get the locked up part.”
“It's not my story to tell. Ask your cousins.”
“I didn't sign up for this. I have a coven of witches to lead along with the fae. And now I'm supposed to unite the supernatural world?”
“Think about this later. We really should go and join the dinner table.”
“Fine, let's go, but after dinner I want to know every single thing.”
“Deal. I'll answer all your questions if I can and I won't step on anybody's toes.”
My life was getting more and more twisted. When I thought all secrets surfaced, I had to realize that wasn't the case. I just wanted to live a mundane life, teaching until I couldn't anymore. Yet, here I was. The furthest away from mundane life as possible. When we joined the others, the food was served.
“I'm sorry for storming out. It's just a lot to take in.”
“No big deal. What do you say about the six of us talking after dinner?”
“I'd love that Castiel.”
“How did you know? People always confuse us.”
“Part of my job description. I was a teacher before, you know, I ended up here. I had to memorize faces and names quickly.”
“We're happy to meet you. My brother managed to keep his secret for so long. I was worried that I'll have to take the throne.”
“You don't want that, Uncle Michael?”
“Heavens no! It's such a burden. I'll leave that to your father.”
The rest of the dinner was actually pleasant. We got to know each other better. My grandmother was silent the whole time, just observing us. Gabriel wasn't really talking either. I understood that, because they knew each other.
“Once again, I'm happy that you joined us, Savannah. I hope you'll understand my decisions eventually. You're safe here and nobody can hurt you. I might be harsh, but I'm doing all this out of love.”
“You have to understand my perspective too. Everything was under control until it wasn't. Once I get the whole picture things might change. You're not letting me see my family and that doesn't sit well with me.”
“Hear out the boys. After they tell you everything we can sit down and talk again.”
“Okay. I'll listen to them.”
I had no idea what could possibly be that serious. She was afraid of something. Maybe I misunderstood her and her intentions.
“Savannah, I have to talk to Queen Seraphina until you're with the princes. Should I wait for you?”
“I don't know how long it'll take. You can leave if you want.”
“Okay then. Meet you at home.”
“Yeah.”
“Are you ready, little cousin?”
“Yeah, I think so, Castiel.”
The boys led me to a greenhouse. It was gorgeous. Full of orchids, Angel's Trumpets and others I didn't recognize.
“What are all these flowers?”
“Grandma loves orchids. The others represent our race. This one here is Angelonia and Angelica. They sound similar, but they're different flowers. This stunning flower is Angel Wing Begonia. I don't think I have to explain its name. There are others too, but we can show you them later.”
“It's amazing, Raziel.”
“I think we should talk now. It'll be a lot to take in, but what you've been going through I think you'll be fine. Cael is the best story teller so he should tell you.”
“Okay. I won't interrupt unless it's necessary. I don't know about you Cael, but I hate being interrupted.”
“Let's sit down here and I'll start. If it's too much, just tell me to stop and we can continue later. Are you ready?”
“I hope so.”
“Perfect! You already know that when an angel is born so is a prophecy. We're older than you, so we knew about the prophecy earlier. It's not uncommon that siblings share the same fate, just as our fathers, but it never exceeds two people. When we were born, something changed. All five of us share the same fate which has never happened before. We're connected to you and your prophecy. You're supposed to unite the supernatural world. From what I gathered, you know that too. Now I'll tell you our prophecy, then you can ask your questions. Everything's clear so far?”
“Yeah, my dad told part of this. What's the prophecy?”
*“Five men, brothers and cousins. Their fate is to protect the Princess, the savior and ultimate Queen of the supernatural world. Once she reaches the proper age, danger will be near her. A woman full of greed and revenge will try to stop her. If she succeeds, the supernatural world will never be the same. The Princess has to be kept safe until the time is right. Protect her at all costs and your rewards will be great. Fail and you'll be eternally cursed.”
“Oh, my God! This isn't damned at all. Okay, parts of it are clear. Who's the woman?”
“We don't know. She's not an angel, that's all we know. We don't know what's the reward and the curse either.”
“Well, this really narrows everything down. I don't think we can do anything about the reward and the curse. Let's just hope you'll never discover the latter. Wait, can you repeat the part about danger?”
“Once she reaches the proper age, danger will be near her. Did you think about something?”
“What's the proper age?”
“When you get your powers.”
“Okay, so we're past that. What about the second part? I've been to so many places since I got my powers. I met dozens of people. Hell, I'm leading hundreds if not thousands of them.”
“I know it doesn't narrow anything down, but it's a start. We have to look for a woman near you. You probably met her already.”
“Let's give this part a rest now and we'll come back to this later. What about the part about ‘when the time is right?'”
“We know that you mastered your witch powers. You have powers as an angel too. I was thinking about that part. I don't know, but it's worth a shot to think that you have to master those powers too before confronting that woman.”
“Great, how do I do that?”
“That's the thing. Angels get their powers when they would even sacrifice themselves to protect someone. That's why at least once in their lives angels visit Earth. They sacrifice something in exchange for their powers. The sacrifice has to come from the bottom of their heart.”
“Okay, but if I'm locked in here how am I supposed to do that Angelo?”
“That's what I haven't figured out yet.”
