Chapter 48
Luna Ceremony Part One
Today is a day of excitement and anxiety for me. There is a very good chance that Logan will show up. The man who killed my mother and pack. However, that wasn't the only cause of my anxiety. I am beyond nervous that I'm going to also be there. I don't know how I would react after not seeing him for over two decades.
Everyone is rushing around this morning as they all try to get some last minute things done. Melakie has stayed in the room we gave him all morning. And with lunch time quickly approaching I figured I would go and check on him. I head upstairs and to his room. As I go to knock on the door I hear him talking to someone and it immediately makes me stop in my tracks.
“Yes mother, it really is her.” He says and then I hear her voice because he must have her on speaker phone while he is getting ready. “Well, Melakie, she must come back with you to meet the rest of her family.” I thought about that for a minute. I would love to go and meet the rest of my family. “Mother, I am not sure that is such a good idea. She is becoming Luna today and the name of the person who killed your sister, who I refuse to speak of, will be here.”
“I hope that Alpha of hers will be doing something about that.” She said, sounding a bit angry. “I am not sure about that either, Mother.” It was silent for a moment. “And why is that?” She asked and I was also equally curious as well. “Because he is that Alpha’s nephew.” I stood there in shock wondering how he knew that about Shane and Logan. “Well, do your best , she is soon to be marked as Queen.”
“I know mother, I will talk to her.” As soon as that was said I couldn't help but think of what it would mean for me to be the queen. At the same time I questioned if I was even good enough or ready enough to be the queen of the fairy realm. I haven't even accepted that role, and honestly don't even know if I want that responsibility. Plus what would happen to Shane and his pack? I need to figure this all out, but right now I do not have the time to even sit and think about any of this. Finally I heard him hang up with his mother and I knocked on the door.
“Come in!” Melakie shouted and I slowly opened the door to the room. “Hey Melakie, I am just checking in on you to make sure you are alright. I haven't seen you all morning.” I said to him, I mean he is a guest and a family member of mine, so I wanted to make sure that everything was good. “Yeah I am alright, I am just not much of a morning person. That's all.” I nodded and looked around the room, the bed was already made and there wasn't even a sign that he spent the night in the room. “Well I wanted to let you know that it is almost time for the Luna ceremony and Lunch. So when you are ready come down stairs and get some food.”
“Okay thank you Sierra. I will be down shortly.” He assured me. “Sounds good, see you down stairs.” I headed right for my room and sat on the bed. So much is going on in my head that it is sinning. Shane walks into the room as well shortly after I enter. “Hey babe are you alright?” He asked, looking a little concerned. “Yeah I am as okay as I would be given everything that is going on today.”
We made small talk for a while, then out of nowhere Shanes phone rang. He looks at the caller ID and then back at me. “Its Jessie”
***** Shane’s Point Of View *****
My phone rings and I look at it shocked to see that it is Jessie calling. I tell Sierra who it is and she urges me to pick it up. “Jessie what's going on?” I ask him as I put the phone on speaker phone so Sierra could hear the conversation. “Nothing much, I just wanted to let you know Logan will be coming to the Luna Ceremony with me. Sierra and I locked eyes. “Oh, okay did he say why?” I asked because, him showing up was the last thing I really expected him to do.
“He said he wanted to see the Luna and congratulate her himself.” Right then and there I knew instantly there was going to be a problem at the ceremony. I could feel it in my gut. “Okay… um, did you find anything else out?” I asked because knowing that he is working with Logan made this whole phone call just seem a bit off. “Yes but I will discuss what I found out when I get there if that is alright?”
I looked at Sierra again and she nodded, giving me the green light to agree with him. “Yeah that works for me.” However I had a feeling that there wasn't anything for him to tell me. But I needed to continue to play it off as if I was clueless… “There are just too many ears around and I don't want anyone to hear what I have to say to you.”
“I get it. I will see you when you get here.” I hung up the phone before Jessie could say anything else. It really was getting under my skin all of his lies and how he is trying to deceive us. Sierra heard everything like I wanted. I didn't want anything to be kept from her when it comes to this ceremony and what could possibly happen today.
“I don't want to be the cause of a family war Shane. Maybe it is best if I leave.” I was stunned by her statement. “Why do you want to leave? Aren't you happy here? Was it something I did?” I asked, feeling a bit lost.
***** Sierra’s Point Of View *****
“Shane it has nothing to do with you or this pack house and you should know that already. It has everything to do with Logan. Over twenty years ago he came looking for me and when my mother and pack refused to give me up he killed everyone except my father… And now he's coming back to come for me yet again. I can't let what happened in the past repeat itself. I can't lose you or our pack.”
Shane gets up and comes over to me and embraces me in a hug. He assures me that everything is going to be fine and that he has a plan. I agree to stay and fight if that is what is needed. “No matter what happens I want Gram kept safe from all of it.” Shane agrees with me and then links Ramiro.
Ramiro comes to the pack house with Gram and sits her right in the living room. Shane and I both greet Gram and Ramiro. “Hey Gram! How was your night?” I asked her. Feeling a pain in my heart because of what might be coming. “Last night was a good night dear. How was your night?” I didn't want to give her too much information. I didn't want her to feel any kind of way about anything. “It was good. The guys and I have to go and discuss some important pack things. Are you okay sitting here for a bit?”
She looked around and nodded. “I will be just fine, but first I need a cup of tea and the remote to the TV.” She was such a spit fire. She was very stubborn and knew what she wanted. And would never settle for less. Ever. Shane got her the remote for the TV as I went into the kitchen and made her a cup of her favorite tea. Once she was all settled in, the three of us headed up to Shane’s office.
Once we got there Shane did not waste any time telling Ramiro what is going to be needed from him if things start to go south tonight. “Tonight Ramiro, do not leave Gram’s side. If she has to use the bathroom, go with her and wait outside of the door. If she wants to know what is going on you should tell her it is because she is the grandmother to the Luna and therefore gets this kind of security as a precaution. Then if anything does happen you are to get her to the safe room immediately no questions asked.
Ramiro instantly agreed to everything that Shane said to him. Ramiro has really grown fond of Gram. You can see the way that he looks at her. It is as if she is also his grandmother. She does that to people. Takes them in and makes them feel like family. I knew that Ramiro was the only one I would trust with Gram in this kind of situation.
After Ramiro was dismissed she came over and wrapped his arms around me and kissed the top of my head. “Sierra please know that you don't have to leave here ever. No matter what is to come now or in the future. This is your home and your place is by my side. I promise you that he will not win this fight. And if he thinks that he is going to be able to destroy all of this, then I cannot wait to prove him wrong. And if he is thinking that we are completely clueless to his motive, and decides that a surprise attack is the road he wants to take, then he is going to be sorely mistaken. We will be ready for anything.”
All I could do was just smile and nod. I understand what he is saying to me. And all of me wants to believe him and every word that he is saying. I just still have this bad feeling sitting in the pit of my stomach. After a minute standing there in Shanes arms, I look up at the clock and realize that it is lunch time. I told Shane that I was excited to spend some more time with Melakie. I wanted to learn as much as I could from him.
When we got to the dining table Melakie was already there waiting. When I sat down the awful feeling sank so deep into my stomach that I started to feel sick. “Are you alright little cousin?” I was shocked as I looked at Melakie and I heard him talking to me but his lips were not moving. “Yes little cousin i have the power to link you just like Shane does, only ours is connected on a family level. Only relatives can talk to each other like this.”
Another pixie power exposed. “Well since you are the only one who can hear me… No I am not okay…” I began “Logan, that man that killed my mother, is going to be here tonight at the Luna Ceremony and I have this feeling like something big is going to happen.” I confessed. “Well little cousin, please know that you mate will not be the only one who is here that will protect you. I give you my word to protect you with my life.”
I was taken back by his statement. And as much as I appreciated his words, it added another level of guilt. What if something happened to Melakie? What if he is killed trying to protect me… this was all a bit too much to have to deal with. But there was no other time to do so. I just nodded letting him know that I understood and the both of us turned our attention back to the table where everyone was now gathered for lunch.
