Chapter 39

3 of the pack members that were the closest to us came over asking the same things Shane did and offering to help me up.

"You sure you are alright Luna?" Jessie asked

"Yes... I am sorry about that... I have a habit of tripping over my own feet." I was trying to cover up the fact that I did that on purpose.

"It happened... Here give me your cups and let me go and make you guys another drink."

"Oh no bro, you don't need to do that. We are not up for drinking tonight. Sierra and I have a lot of things that need to be done tomorrow."

"Are you sure?"

Jessie was looking at Shane and me a bit funny. I knew that he was trying to read us. Like he was sensing that we were bullshitting him. Even though we were Shane and I kept a straight face so he was unable to for sure tell. Thank the Goddess. I think he would have made a scene if he were able to tell. Then it happened. I handed Jessie our empty cups…

"That is a beautiful ring, Sierra. Did this knucklehead give it to you?" Jessie looked at my hand and then back up at me.

"Huh? Oh… no, this was my mother's. It is the only thing I have left of her."

"I am so sorry again about your family. But that is very beautiful."

"Thank you."

More questions rushed through my mind. Why would Jessie mention this ring? He never mentioned the necklace I have on. Why is he so close to Claudia? Is she working for Logan too? He is so pressing about us drinking, what is really in our cups? Why would he assume Shane gave this to me? Wolves don't do jewelry…

As Shane and I kept going around the gathering talking to other pack members, Jessie and Claudia were right behind us… it was like they were our shadows… very annoying... Via was also getting very upset.

"Sierra, give me control. I will set both of them straight." She was so willing to handle this situation.

"No that would not be a good thing.. No one knows what they are up to... And even though I heard the conversation Jessie had with Logan, I was the only one who heard it... So to put that out in front of everyone would just be his word against mine right now.."

"Fine... But I am going to stand on the front line waiting for my chance.."

"I know you have been since we heard that call he took... You will get your chance... I can put money on it.." I assured her.

After about 2 hours we said our goodbyes to everyone.

"Alright, Jessie, Sierra and I are going to head up to bed. Please feel free to mingle for as long as you would like."

"No! Stay for a little while longer!!"

"We honestly can't... We're sorry. But we will see you at breakfast." I spoke out.

"Fine... See you then.." Jessie looked really pissed at us.

***** Shane's POV *****

Sierra and I left that party as quickly as we could and made our way back through the pack house and up to our bedroom. Once I shut the door and locked it I turned around to see Sierra pacing the floor.

"What’s the matter?" I asked her seeing that she was visibly worried about something.

"Shane he is working with Logan. He is only here to get information about us to give to him... And Logan is looking for something…." She blurted out and it took me back a bit.

"How do you know this?"

"When I got up from dinner to go and use the bathroom, I overheard him on the phone in the hallway. He was talking to Logan. He told him that I was here with you." I was in a moment of shock hearing this from Sierra.

I fucking knew this guy was a scumbag. I should have never asked him to come here. Something told me there was something off about this. I knew this would happen, that is why I have a plan

" knew there was something very off with him. We haven't been friends for a long time... And the way that he has been acting and been sending me a ton of red flags." I told her

"I have been getting the same red flags and I just met the guy. What are we going to do?"

"I don't think that there is much that we can do honestly. He doesn't know that we know any of this... And we should keep it that way. That way we can be on our guard and act like there is nothing wrong."

"I also think that he was trying to poison our drinks tonight.." She added

"Poison?"

"Well, maybe not poison... But he definitely put something in them, well at least I am positive he put something in mine. Or why would he keep pushing for us to drink…"

"I agree with you there. He was way too pushy about the both of us drinking. What do you think about him and Claudia?" I asked her because it seems she is very spot on with reading a situation.

"That is questionable. How well do you know her?" She asked.

"She has been part of our pack since we were kids... She and I had a falling out when I decided to look for my mate."

"Do you think she might be working for Logan too?" Sierra questioned.

"Why do you ask that?"

"If she knows Jessie just as well as I do, it seems strange that she was so close to him so fast. I mean You could say that she was trying to make you jealous but that still doesn't completely add up. You already told her that I was your mate and you wanted nothing to do with her in that form anymore."

"Right.. that makes a lot of sense."

"So something about it just really seems off."

"I will link My Beta and his team who are some of my best to gather all the information that they can. That way you and I stay out of the spotlight and they don't suspect we are doing anything."

"Good idea. Also, do you think that maybe we can have breakfast up here in the room before the rest of the pack go to eat in the morning and then we can go down and just have coffee while the others eat. I really just don't trust them. Plus with your mother and that witch coming tomorrow I don't want to chance a single thing."

"Absolutely. That sounds like a perfect plan. I am going to get started and let my Beta know what I need from him. And I am going to put a rush on it. I want to get something tonight on Jessie and even Claudia."

"Thank you, Shane. I am sorry…"

"For what?" I asked her.. she didn't have any reason to be.

"It just feels like since I came here that all this is going haywire and it is all because of me."

"There is nothing to be sorry for. This is not your fault. We will get to the bottom of this... I promise.."

"Thanks, Shane. For trusting and believing in me."

"Anything for you my Luna. I love you"

"I love you too."

Sierra just sat on our bed playing with the ring on her finger. I got to work quickly to make sure I could get all the information that I needed as soon as possible. And hopefully before tomorrow morning. I will not let anyone put my mate in harm's way, or our pack. Family, friends or not... My beta and his team have been on stand-by…
