Chapter 31

Via had something she wanted to share with me, and it seemed urgent. As she interrupted our conversation, she apologized to both Shane and me. "Sierra, I am sorry to interrupt you and Shane, but this is very important," she began. "I need you to trust me, okay?"

Confused yet intrigued, I responded with a hesitant "Okay?"

"Thank you," Via said, her voice filled with sincerity. "Now, I promise you that Shane is not lying to you. He genuinely didn't have any knowledge of what we discussed, particularly concerning his uncle."

Naturally, I was curious about how Via could be so certain about Shane's innocence. "How are you so sure about this?" I asked, hoping for some explanation.

With a calm reassurance in her voice, Via explained, "His wolf showed me some flashbacks of Shane as a young child. It became evident that he truly only spent that one occasion with his uncle because his parents were out of town. Once his parents returned, he went back home and never saw his uncle again."

Her explanation seemed reasonable, but I couldn't help but raise another concern. "Well, what about that picture?" I questioned, referring to the image that had sparked doubt in my mind.

"Honestly," Via admitted, "that was taken during the time Shane was with his uncle."

Doubts still lingered in my mind, so I probed further. "Are you sure about this, Via?"

Without hesitation, Via responded confidently, "I promise you, I am sure. He is telling you the truth, Sierra."

Though I wanted to trust Via's judgment, I couldn't dismiss my own doubts completely. However, I acknowledged, "I believe you, Via. But I think I am still going to take him up on his offer. Gram and I will be staying in that pack house for a while."

Supportive of my decision, Via said, "I back you on that, Sierra. Just do me a favor and give him a real chance. He truly loves you."

Suddenly, the connection with Via ended, leaving me stunned and perplexed. How could Shane already love me? We had only recently accepted each other as mates, and we hadn't even spent enough time together to cultivate such profound emotions. While I acknowledged that I had deep feelings for him, I couldn't help but attribute them to the powerful mate bond we shared.

Taking a deep breath to calm myself, I made a firm decision to let Shane know about my plan. It was important for me to communicate openly with him, especially during such crucial moments.

I turned towards Shane, my heart pounding in my chest as I summoned the courage to speak my mind. A mix of emotions swirled within me - fear, doubt, but also a glimmer of hope. "Shane, I am going to trust you," I said, my voice filled with a blend of hesitation and determination. "Even though part of me is wanting me not to, I have good reason to believe that you are not part of this chaotic mess that has consumed our lives. And I believe that in my heart."

His eyes met mine, filled with a mix of understanding and gratitude. "Sierra, thank you so much for entrusting me," he replied earnestly, his voice laced with sincerity. "I promise I will not let you down, or make you regret your decision."

I couldn't help but let out a sigh of relief, grateful for his words of assurance. Yet, a lingering doubt still crept at the edges of my mind. Would I come to regret this leap of faith? Only time would tell. With a nod, I took a deep breath and continued, "However, I think it's best if I stay with Gram in that pack house tomorrow when she is released. It feels like the safest place for me right now."

Shane nodded in understanding, his supportive smile never wavering. "That sounds like a wise decision," he said. "Tomorrow, when we go and retrieve our belongings from her house, we can bring everything back to the pack house. It will be a fresh start for us."

As his words sunk in, a comforting sense of relief washed over me. I knew deep down that I had made the right choice, putting my trust in someone who had proven their loyalty time and time again. Still, a small voice of doubt lingered, and I couldn't help but voice my concern. "I hope so," I admitted, the uncertainty evident in my voice.

Shane reached out and gently squeezed my hand, his touch providing a sense of reassurance. "Sierra, I understand your worries," he said softly. "But together, we will face whatever challenges come our way. I won't let anything harm you, I promise."

I took a moment to absorb his words, feeling a renewed sense of hope coursing through me. With Shane by my side, navigating the treacherous path ahead seemed a little less daunting. We may have been surrounded by uncertainty, but as long as we had each other, I am starting to think we had a fighting chance.

Shane suggested that he and I take a break for the rest of the day, realizing that I needed some time to unwind and process all the new information we had received. As we made our way back up to his room, I couldn't help but feel grateful for his presence in my life during moments like these but also still felt very overwhelmed that he is related to the very man who destroyed my life.

He knew exactly how to comfort me, and this time was no exception. As we settled into his cozy room, Shane asked me if I wanted to watch some movies and enjoy some delicious snacks. Being in my emotions, snacking has always been my go-to relief, and tonight was no different. Despite having just indulged in ice cream, the idea of nachos and movies sounded too good to resist. I eagerly agreed, excited to have a moment of relaxation and distraction.

With a sense of anticipation, I took on the responsibility of selecting the movie while Shane headed to the kitchen to prepare the mouthwatering nachos. As I perused through his vast collection of films, I found myself drawn to a heartfelt romantic comedy that promised to uplift my spirits. I couldn't help but smile at the thought of sharing this cozy movie night with Shane, knowing his presence alone would bring me comfort.

Meanwhile, the sound of clanging pots and sizzling cheese wafted from the kitchen, as Shane skillfully assembled the perfect batch of nachos - crispy, golden chips smothered in melted cheese, topped with fresh guacamole, salsa, and jalapenos. The aroma filled the bedroom, intensifying my anticipation for the scrumptious treat that awaited me.

With the movie selected and the nachos nearly perfected, Shane emerged from the kitchen, holding a tray filled with the steaming nachos and a side of sour cream. The sight was enough to make my mouth water, and I eagerly settled down on the bed, ready to indulge in this ultimate comfort food experience. As the movie began to play, the room was filled with nothing but munching sounds, and the occasional gasp of surprise. With each passing scene, I could feel my worries and stress gradually melting away, replaced by a sense of contentment and tranquility. It was in these simple moments of connection and shared experiences that I realized the true healing power of friendship and the importance of taking time for ourselves. As the evening progressed, we talked and savored every bite of the delicious nachos. The combination of great company, movies, and comforting snacks turned this impromptu break into a memorable and rejuvenating experience. It was a reminder to prioritize self-care and to seek solace in the company of loved ones during challenging times.

By the time the credits rolled on the movie, we had finished the last few chips, feeling satisfied and revitalized. The weight of the day's events no longer felt as heavy, and I couldn't help but feel grateful for this brief respite from reality. In that moment, I realized that sometimes, all it takes is a break with a movie, and some delectable snacks to find solace amidst life's uncertainties. And as the night drew to a close, I couldn't help but feel a renewed sense of strength and optimism for what tomorrow would bring.

As we lay on the bed in silence, the atmosphere became heavy with an inexplicable tension. It was as if an invisible force was slowly enveloping me, starting from my feet and rising upwards. The sensation was foreign, and electrifying, and left me feeling vulnerable and uncertain. A wave of discomfort crashed over me, beginning as a dull ache in the depths of my stomach and intensifying until it reverberated through every inch of my being, straight to my pounding head. It was like I was being lit on fire from the inside out.

Involuntarily, I found myself keeling over in the bed, assuming the fetal position as if trying to shield myself from the escalating torment. But even though my screams of pain, Shane's voice sliced through the haze of agony, his words blending with the echoes of my cries. "Sierra! You need to listen to me," he urged urgently. "You are going through what is called your heat. I have seen this many times before with other mated females in the pack."

Desperate for the anguish to subside, I pleaded with him, my voice trembling and laced with both fear and frustration. "Please, Shane! Make it stop!"

With a mixture of empathy and determination, Shane responded, his voice brimming with sincerity, "There is only one way to do that, Sierra. I know it might sound unconventional, and I understand your concerns, but we need to have sex again."

His suggestion hit me like a bolt of lightning, intensifying the already throbbing pain. I met his proposition with both incredulity and accusation. "What?!" I managed to exclaim, my words punctuated by screams of agony. "Are you just trying to have sex with me?"

Shane's eyes locked with mine, his gaze filled with earnestness and devotion. "No, Sierra. I promise you, it will work. This is not about my desires, but about finding relief for you."

Overwhelmed by the sheer intensity of the pain coursing through me, my voice failed me, reduced to nothing more than a strained whimper. All I could do was close my eyes tightly, doubling over as I clutched my stomach, silently acknowledging my consent. In this moment, I was willing to do whatever it took to alleviate the torment that seemed to ensnare every fiber of my being. Reacting swiftly, Shane sprang into action, rushing to the bathroom and starting the shower. He returned to my side with a sense of urgency, determination etched across his face. "I am going to bring you into the bathroom and help you undress," he explained, his voice steady and comforting. "The warmth of the water will provide some relief, Sierra. Trust me, I promise."

Though skepticism lingered in the recesses of my mind, I nodded weakly, placing my faith in him and his words. I was unsure of the outcome, uncertain of whether his assurances would bring the desired outcome. But in that instance, as the pain threatened to consume me entirely, I was willing to test any possibility and explore any avenue for respite. Anything to make this agonizing, bewildering discomfort stop.
