Chapter 112 Sight.

Chapter 112 Sight.
Monroe.

I've been so used to weird all my life that things people would usually laugh off were considered my normal.

When I found out about a clan of people who could take the form of a wolf, I was shocked… yes. Terrified, even, but I still came around to the reality.

But the weirdest shit happened to me the moment I opened my eyes.

I opened my eyes!

Yeah, I know this seems weird, but hear me out.

It was routine for me to feel for my glasses and fix them on. I did.

But by the time I opened my eyes, everywhere was blurry, like I had forgotten to wipe the lenses in years.

I groaned because that was definitely not how to start your mornings.

Then I took them off.

And at that moment, the world stilled.

The ceiling came into full view, but rather than the blurry world I knew without my glasses, I was met with clean, clear vision.

Shocked, I turned to Onyx, who was still in deep sleep. Her brows were full. I saw the smooth texture of her face, her short lashes.

Everything.

I jumped out of bed, fear a greater feeling than excitement.

Everything was 3D clear… no, clearer than that.

What the fuck was happening?

“Onyx… Onyx,” I screamed like my butt was on fire.

Soon, she ran towards me, obviously dazed from sleep.

“What's the matter?” she asked, urgency in her voice.

“I… I can see. I can see.”

“Yes, you can see. You always could,” she replied, oblivious to what I truly meant.

“No… I don't need…” Tears began to well in my eyes.

“Glasses… I… don't…”

One by one, the words finally sank into her head.

Her face slowly began to show the expression I was expecting from the beginning.

The shock.

The excitement.

The confusion.

That explained me without words.

She took a step back.

“Oh my gosh, Mon…”

My knees caved as I let the tears fall.

What was I being such a cry baby for?

It's just… sight.

For a child who was given glasses since she learnt to talk, I had never witnessed the world without the aid of lenses.

Several times, I was bullied, my glasses tossed aside, changing me into a blind little animal for the predators to prey on.

I had never thought… never, that I could actually see with my own eyes.

“Mon.”

I looked at Onyx.

She bent down to my level and touched my face.

“Did you always have golden specks in your eyes?”

My breath caught.

Golden specks?

I looked in the mirror again and tried to see what she was talking about.

Like she said, small golden specks floated around the amber of my eyes.

They were enchanting… but scary.

Did I always have that?

Was there something going on with my body?

I smiled regardless. Whatever that was, I was grateful it cleared the haze behind my eyes so I could see the full colour the world had to show.

“Maybe,” I replied, using the back of my hand to wipe the tears off my face.

“Maybe they've been there.”

Onyx wrapped her hands around me.

No words.

None needed.

…

The way back from school was lonely. Onyx had gone to Flynn's for the weekend.

Yeah, it was a Friday, and I was going to be the most bored person. That is, if Zyle finished with his clan duties… or what did he call it?

Well, in a nutshell, everything was getting better and better by the day.

Zyle's illness still took over him every night, but he had assured me he had an antidote. But as much as I never believed him, I knew he had a lot of work to do back at his clan.

I didn't realise I was going to be bored.

Figured getting brand-new eyes came with other qualities… like seeing people before they saw me, not being afraid of losing my pair of glasses.

I let out a relieved breath and stretched my hands out.

The evening air was cool and a perfect time to have Zyle next to me.

Fuck, I missed him already.

From the corner of my eyes, I saw a figure coming towards me.

The atmosphere was pretty busy. People weaved through shops and homes, so who would have the balls to do something to me in the open?

But I tilted my head to see someone dressed in black, hands tucked in his pockets, approaching.

“Hey there,” he said.

If there was one thing I'd learnt growing up, it was that strangers were dangerous.

Looking forward, I hastened away.

“I think you lost this.”

I didn't want to, but I found myself looking to see what the person was referring to.

I stopped.

On his palm was one of the chains Zyle had got me.

How did he have it?

It was in my bag the day…

Oh.

Was it the person who nudged me?

No, that can't be. The bag was zipped shut.

“I don't think that's mine,” I replied.

“Oh. What a shame. I really did see someone try to steal it from you in the halls.”

I gasped.

Was this for real?

Who was he?

“Well, you took some time returning it to the owner.”

“My apologies. I had been searching for you for a long while.”

“Here.”

He stretched out his hand, and maybe it was my imagination, but I thought I saw a pair of purple eyes.

I collected it and checked it.

It really was the one Zyle got me.

Could this be fabrica—

His attention disturbed my thoughts.

He looked at me with a gaze that unsettled me.

“Thank you,” I said and continued on my path.

“Can I know your name?”

“Amelia,” I lied smoothly.

He chuckled and nodded while following beside me.

“I'm Ael.”

“Nice name,” I commended, although I was barely interested in this weird person.

“I'm a student from your class… you just never pay enough attention to notice me.”

Was he serious?

I had never heard of an Ael before.

“Good for you.”

“Can I ask you something?”

“Sure,” I replied curtly.

“How about coffee?”

I stopped abruptly and turned slowly to face him.

“I don't know who you are, sir, and I really don't know why you are trying to be friendly. I really appreciate the effort, but I'm a little busy right now and would love to walk back alone.”

“I fully understand,” he said.

“Thank you.”

I continued down my path, but I noticed he was keeping a safe distance behind me.

“But Zyle sent me,” he said out of the blue.

My heart skipped.

I stopped again.

“Zyle?”

“Yes, he said he was really busy. He knew you would be bored to death, so he wanted you to have an escort.”

Did Zyle really say that?

The Zyle I knew was a jealous man, and I was not so sure he would send someone to follow me around because I was bored.

“Let me call him,” I said, pulling my phone out of my bag.

The weird guy removed his hoodie, and I could finally see the purple in his eyes.

What was he?

I took a subconscious step backwards.

“Please do, Miss Amelia.”

I had almost forgotten I had given him a fake name.

I nodded and began to call Zyle, but surprisingly, it didn't go through, even after several tries.

“Well. Thank him for the hospitality. But I don't need an escort right now… I just want a quiet evening. Thank you,” I said as respectfully as I could, bowing slightly.

He didn't say anything, studying me with eyes that seemed like they could look right into my soul.

What a creepy man!

I spun around and walked away from him. This time, he didn't follow.

But I hadn't walked five steps when I heard him say,

“Miss Monroe, I see you are with child.”
