Chapter 111 Impossible task.
Chapter 111 Impossible task.
Sasha.
The last Luna?
Like Zyle's mother?
I burst out laughing. The laughter made my chest hurt.
That was harder than bringing Zyle himself.
What did this punk think I was? Some goddess who could just walk in and out of the tomb, taking the clan's treasure away like it belonged to me?
That was where he got it all wrong.
I couldn't do something like that.
He searched my face, and I hadn't realised my expression must have been saying all the things my lips couldn't.
“Wow. You must really take me for a fool,” I said, almost forgetting the fact that I was almost killed by his hands earlier.
“Not a fool, dearest… a tool.”
“Yeah? That was worse.”
“You'll be amazed at what I'll do for you if only you had the patience to carry out your tasks.”
“Really? Why should anyone trust you?”
“They must be driven by desperation to come here in the first place. So ask yourself, should I leave and face my troubles, maybe die while at it, or should I trust the wizard to deliver Monroe's head to my table?”
“I've said this way too many times, Mr Ael, but this time I mean it… I'm done.” I stared at him.
“This is nothing but a cheap scheme you're cooking, trying to use me to get whatever you want.”
“I'm pretty sure you have no ability whatsoever to actually kill the little girl. That's why you've planned your scheme well. Because what need do you have of the dead? If not some silly magic tricks.”
“Think whatever you wish, but even if you don't bring her to me, I'll be able to find her myself. And I have to get genuine with you. You don't want my fleet in your clan.”
“Is that a threat?”
“I'm way too old to be dishing out threats. I work on promises,” he said, walking to his seat.
“Yeah, like the way you promised to kill her if I saved your toy, and I did. But why is she still locking hands with my husband?”
He looked bored with the discussion.
“Patience… is a priceless virtue.”
I drew closer to his chair and lowered myself to his seated level until I was only an inch away.
“I have none of it.”
Then I straightened quickly and began to walk to the door.
But then I realised I had already gone too far to back out now.
That didn't mean I'd let this lowly magician play me like a chess piece.
I would figure out the way to get back at Monroe myself.
This was a fucking waste of time.
…
I paced about, thinking hard of how I could fix all that was crumbling at a rather fast pace.
The only hope I had had already turned out to be a scammer.
Well, wizards merely went by any other title.
I had to do something.
Was it time to tell Zyle's father about what was going on? He was one strong supporter of the marriage. Would he be better able to help?
But he had warned me. He didn't want anything to happen to Zyle, so there was no way I could tell him about the curse or the fact that despite bliss, Marine, the two of them still found themselves…
I dressed and hid half of my face before stepping out of the penthouse.
The evening air was cool, and rather than enjoying it, my mind kept replaying my turmoils one after the other.
Brian.
He was the only one who could calm me in situations like this, but he was also a distraction.
I didn't need distractions now.
I walked for some time, ignoring the admiring looks from the clan's citizens.
I had acted like a literal angel to them before the council wedding. I didn't think it was necessary to put up such a front anymore.
Some waved while some smiled as I walked past.
I didn't care much for them.
I wasn't aware of where I was going, but I let my legs take me.
It took me an hour of walking at least to finally reach the tomb.
Guards were stationed outside, and I was certain there were much more inside.
“Luna,” they greeted.
I nodded. They recognised me easily.
That was impressive.
They made way for me to go into the tomb.
I walked in there, my heart pounding against my chest like it planned to break out of my ribcage.
Why was I here?
I had told that mutt to fuck off, so why was I here?
I walked towards the coffin. Slowly. Counting my steps as I approached.
Crazy how desperation was such a strong push to do the unthinkable.
What even in the goddess' name did he want to use her corpse for?
He sounded like the corpse was very important to him.
I trailed my fingers over the fine material used to create the coffin.
She lay in there.
For months, she had been inside there. But she hadn't aged one bit.
Well, a few parts of her body had already gotten paler. She wasn't supposed to be that fresh for someone who had died a long time ago.
I looked left and right, observing the structure of the guards.
The window way.
A small window was at the far corner of the tomb.
But guards were stationed everywhere.
This was going to be difficult.
I scanned the area. These guards were not here before. Why did Zyle put out so many people to look after the tomb?
Or was it… was it Eliot?
So what do I do now?
I sighed and thought deeply, but no idea came to mind.
It was not going to be possible to transfer a body out of the clan without the Alpha of the pack finding out about it.
Maybe I was not going to do it after all.
Ael had given me a task I could not complete.
I grit my teeth.
“You are all dismissed,” I said.
Hoping the title of Luna was enough to make them leave.
They didn't respond. They just stood there like sculptures.
The rage that was beginning to grow inside me was a spark at a time.
This was hard. Harder than I expected.
What if they did leave, what then? If the previous Luna went missing while I was here, that would be the end of me.
Why was a dead person so important?
But I knew I had to get my act together. There was no other hope for me.
It's either I kill the threat or the threat kills me.
