Chapter 108 Confession.

Chapter 108 Confession.

Monroe.

The days were bright.

Were the days going to continue that way?

I was no longer having the nightmares I usually had, but they had been replaced by weird dreams of me and a white wolf interacting like we'd known each other forever.

It all didn't make sense yet, but I was ready to give this new reality a try.

The normal I was already accustomed to was not doing it for me. Maybe being something people would never believe possible was the better option.

“Miss Monroe. I see you are not part of the class.”

I jolted back to reality.

“Professor… I…”

“How does the autonomic nervous system regulate blood pressure during a sudden change from lying down to standing, and which receptors, nerves, and brain regions are involved?” the professor asked, looking at me like he had successfully embarrassed me.

“Baroreceptor reflex,” I started. “Gravity causes blood to…”

“That's enough. Now keep your head in the class. Can you?”

I nodded.

Well, my day glowed apart from when I had to endure hours on end of anatomy and practicals.

“Hey, babes,” I called out to Onyx, who was waiting for me in front of the faculty building.

She turned to me and smiled.

“Damn. I had to wait for an eternity.”

“I know. I'm sorry. My butt is screaming at me right now.”

She laughed.

“Let's grab something before heading to the dorm.”

“That sounds great.”

We spoke for some time before getting to a cafe.

Not the one I had seen Zyle in.

What the fuck? Now cafes remind me of him?

This was getting out of hand…

The good way, I mean.

“Are you dating someone?”

I choked on my coffee, coughing frantically.

The waiter quickly got me a bottle of water.

Onyx stretched her hand and placed it on my shoulder.

I flinched and looked at her.

Where did that question come from?

“What?” I asked.

“It's just that… you look… bright…”

“Are all bright people dating?”

“You know the kind of bright I'm talking about.”

“I'm sorry, I don't.”

She peered at me like she was trying to get the truth out of me.

I and Zyle were not dating… not yet, at least.

And it really never crossed my mind to go out with him. I was happy with how things were now.

“Fine then.”

“I have something to tell you.”

I squinted my eyes at her.

Right after asking if I was dating someone, she decided to tell me something?

I expected to see her usual I will get you to talk expression. Instead, she looked like she was about to spill the secrets that would get her in jail.

“Is something wrong?”

She stretched her hands out and clasped them around mine.

Okay, something was genuinely wrong.

“Please. Can you be my friend even after hearing what I'm about to say? No, that's too much… can you at least hate me a little less than you actually should?”

“Baby, I'll never hate you… unless you kill someone close to me, that is. But other than that, I love you, and you know that.”

Onyx would have laughed at my remark, but with the way she was acting, it was like she had the worst news to break.

I waited for her.

“It's okay. You can tell me.”

“I'm… I'm…”

I nodded to urge her on.

“I and Zyle are dating.”

She clammed her eyes shut.

We were silent for a while.

Then I burst out laughing.

I laughed and laughed until my cheeks and belly hurt.

“Wow.”

“I'm really sorry. I don't know why I began to feel this way for him, but…”

“I know,” I said, making her swallow the rest of her words.

She raised a brow at me.

“You know?”

“Yeah. From the first day I introduced you to him, I knew the two of you would hit it off pretty soon. But it actually took longer than I expected, though.”

“Was I so easy to read all these while?”

“Well, I would say you are an open book.”

“Easy to read but hard to manipulate. That's the reason I became your friend in fourth grade.”

Her eyes reddened.

Not from rage but from something else I couldn't quite name.

An emotion I couldn't quite place my fingers on.

“You'll embarrass us at this rate,” I said, looking around.

“And I've been beating myself up because of this. Why didn't you tell me you knew?”

A tear dropped from my eyes.

“I'm sorry. I thought you both wanted it to be a secret or something.”

“Fuck. Thank goodness you aren't pissed.”

“Don't cry… I will never be pissed at you for something like that. It's your life, and I'm really happy if you are happy.”

…

Well, that ended fast.

But in a good note.

I had never seen Onyx that happy. Chatting endlessly about things she would have normally passed without commenting on.

I was glad for one thing.

My friend was finally getting the life she wanted.

I, on the other hand, held a secret I was certain was going to shock her to the very core.

The man I liked was a wolf.

My mother used to be one too.

My blood is medicine… I guess.

And I might actually become a wolf too.

I was also struggling to make sense of the situation, so I wouldn't blame anyone for not believing me.

I walked outside the dorm after telling her I had to visit someone and that I would spend the night.

“A guy?”

“Nope. A course mate.”

“Okay. Call if you need anything,” she told me.

When I was in front of the old cathedral, I sighed.

Would he be late today?

He had never been, actually, but I missed him so much, and I needed to see him… like yesterday.

I pushed the old doors open and adjusted my glasses in the darkness before stepping inside.

Then I shut the door behind me.

“There is something about your scent that… that drives me insane.”

A hand wrapped around my waist from the back.

I knew that voice, and that was enough.

I smiled.

“I've been meaning to ask you,” I said, holding his hands.

“What's the name of your cologne?”
