Chapter 106 Ael
Chapter 106 Ael
Sasha
“I'm not supposed to be here,” I murmured, turning to leave.
“Well, well. What do we have here?”
I stopped in my tracks and hugged my hoodie.
“You have so much faith in me not snapping your little wolf head right here,” he said.
Fear overtook me, and I trembled, hoping he was merely joking.
“But I will not. At least not yet.”
My breathing was growing erratic.
This wasn't what I bargained for.
“I still have need for you, you see.”
He walked around me and stood before me, crouching to meet my height.
“What a pretty little thing. A shame your heart covers more than it can chew.”
“I came here because you promised to help me… not troll me,” I spat, an awful attempt to stop myself from exposing my fear.
“Oh! Is that so? I remember sending a letter. But did you really think I would kill the Beta for free?”
“N…not free, but…what's your fee?”
“It's just a small price to pay for…your title, since that's so important to you.”
“Name it.”
“Easy there…you shouldn't run faster than your legs.”
“I don't…”
“Shhh…you are one feisty one, I see.”
“The price is simple. There is a man locked in your husband's prison. A prison no one in your clan knows about. Set him free and bring him here.”
“A prison?”
“Oh…I thought couples shared everything together. How on earth are you just finding out?” He chuckled in mockery.
The fear I had been feeling had graduated into fury.
“Is that all you want?”
“Yes, your highness…for now.”
I stomped towards the exit, planning to turn my back on this wretched creature forever.
“Before you plan to quit the deal, you should know, I have a trail on you. I can kill you if I do wish.”
The fear was back, and this time it wasn't going away.
“This prison…wh…where is it?”
His eyes widened in amusement.
“It's sad to see you are not loved at home.”
“I don't have all day, Mr. Warlock.”
“So do I. I'll quit the heat and help you one last time.”
When has he ever helped me?
“The north of the Maldives, an hour drive at a hundred and twenty speed, no more, no less. The desert holds the key.”
Even the smartest man in the world would flop with such a stupid map.
I didn't come here for his riddles and rhymes…
…but how do I say that to him without incurring his rage?
I could only leave and think of another way to get to the prison.
“Do you promise that once I release him, you'll eliminate the Beta?”
“Of course. A warlock never lies.”
“But…why did you come to me? There are a whole lot of others who could get your friend rescued.”
“None is as pretty as the Luna of Lycos.”
My heart jolted.
“Why should I even do as you asked?”
“Maybe I need to show you something first.”
He walked towards where his chair was.
“Come.”
I was skeptical at first but ended up moving towards him.
He raised his hands in the air, and a clear sphere appeared.
“Let this sphere show us your fear.”
Immediately, I saw Zyle holding Monroe's hand while she pointed at something.
Was he buying her things?
Was that where he was?
But the curse was supposed to start already. Why did he look fine?
“That slimy little cunt.”
“Language…this is a sacred place, after all.”
The warlock closed his palm, and the sphere disappeared.
He turned and looked at me.
“You look like you will burst open with jealousy any minute.”
“What’s your friend's name?”
“J.”
I waited.
Silence.
“That's it?”
“You have a week.”
I spun around, cursing him internally and moving to the door.
“I heard all of what lies in thy heart.”
The door opened for me like it did earlier, and I walked away.
…
A week may seem like a long time to get a task done, but it wasn't.
Yet the image of Zyle's hands clasped around that bitch's own was more infuriating than anything else.
He was supposed to be here.
With the clan.
Exalt me.
Dull the gossips that were already spreading from lips to ears about the Luna and the Alpha being in a separate marriage.
“Separate marriage?”
Who even came up with such a title?
I needed to get something done before I became the clan's laughing stock.
“Prison…prison.”
North of the Maldives.
Fine.
The next morning, I dressed in casual clothes and hopped into the car. The driver gave me a suspicious look, but I didn't care, zooming off and leaving him in the wake of the dust.
I had never suffered more, not even when Zyle pushed me away from him after drinking the concoction I prepared.
I drove around town like a jobless lunatic.
But what would I have done?
Stopped a passerby and said, ‘Hello, peasant. I'm a werewolf and I'm looking for my husband's prison.’
I might wake up in a psychiatric ward.
So I kept my speed at a hundred and twenty, checking the time on the dashboard and hoping I wasn't going to make an expensive mistake.
When the hour was up, I stopped the car abruptly, and just like he had said, there was nothing in sight, just a desert.
‘The desert has the key.’
Well, fuck you if I don't find a key.
I walked deeper into the vast land of sand, seeing absolutely nothing, feeling like an idiot for believing that cunning creature.
The heat was already slowly eating into my body. I needed to get away from here.
I pivoted and walked back to my car…but then my feet stepped on something that didn't quite sound right.
My heart rate increased, and I pushed aside the hot sand to expose the metal door underneath.
How do they get this thing open?
I slammed against the door, yet there was no way I could get it open.
Then I heard noises from inside. Like someone was fumbling with a lock.
I moved aside, and the door creaked open.
Someone stepped out of the ladder within and bowed slightly to me.
“Luna.”
“I'm here to see the prisoners.”
“We are yet to hear from the Alpha.”
I clenched my teeth.
What do I do now?
“Yes, because he sent me. As Luna, he wants me to be acquainted with…” Why was I explaining to him?
“Move from my path.”
“No, Luna…you can't.”
I brushed past them and walked down into the prison.
