Chapter 65 THE LAW BENEATH BLOOD
The thing rising from beneath the fractured chamber did not rush.
It waited.
Stone peeled away slowly like skin shedding from a body far too large to move quickly. Light bent around the shape distorting distance warping perception until Amanda could no longer tell where it ended and the fortress began.
The air thickened.
Every breath tasted ancient.
Andrew felt his Alpha authority recoil instinctively. Whatever this was it did not recognize rank lineage or command. It predated all of it.
Ethan screamed again.
This time the sound did not come from his throat alone.
The fortress echoed him.
Symbols across his body flared brighter then burned inward carving themselves deeper into flesh and spirit. His eyes rolled back as his spine arched violently off the ground.
Andrew slammed his palm against Ethan’s chest forcing his own power outward anchoring him.
“Stay with me,” Andrew growled. “Do not let it take you.”
Ethan laughed weakly through blood.
“It already has,” he whispered. “I just decide how much.”
Below Amanda staggered as the entity finally spoke.
Its voice did not vibrate the air.
It vibrated her.
Luna.
The word wrapped around her consciousness not a title but a claim.
“You awaken what was sealed,” it continued. “You bind what was never meant to love.”
Amanda clenched her fists silver fire trembling violently.
“You fed on betrayal,” she snapped. “You manipulated bloodlines. You turned guardians into sacrifices.”
The darkness shifted.
“We preserved balance,” it answered. “And now balance demands payment.”
Amanda felt the tether tighten.Ethan screamed.
She gasped clutching her chest as pain mirrored through her body a reminder that every wound he endured echoed within her.
“What do you want,” she demanded.
The chamber stilled.
“A choice,” the entity replied. “And a witness.”
The shadows split.
Someone stepped forward.
Andrew froze.“No,” he breathed.
The figure emerged fully into the fractured glow familiar posture calm expression eyes far too knowing.
One of the hidden faction leaders.
A man Andrew had trusted.
A man who had sworn loyalty to the Alpha council.
“You,” Andrew snarled.
The traitor inclined his head slightly.
“The law beneath blood must be restored,” he said calmly. “The Luna cannot ascend without consequence.”
Amanda stared at him fury blazing.
“You orchestrated this.”
“Yes,” he replied without shame. “And it is working.”
Above Ethan convulsed again as the tether surged violently reacting to the presence of the traitor.
The entity spoke again.
“The guardian is now the threshold,” it declared. “If he breaks the Luna breaks. If he survives she ascends.”
Andrew’s fists clenched.
“There is always another way,” he said.
The traitor smiled thinly.
“Not this time.”
Andrew felt it then.
The forbidden law stirring inside him.
The one no Alpha had dared invoke for centuries.
Power flooded his veins dark and burning tearing at his instincts warning him of irreversible consequence.
Ethan’s eyes snapped open suddenly locking onto Andrew.
“Do not,” Ethan rasped. “If you break that law you will shatter the pack itself.”
Andrew met his gaze.
“You are my pack.”
Andrew stepped forward.
And broke Alpha law.
The fortress screamed as Andrew’s authority ripped beyond natural bounds severing ancient seals binding his power. His eyes blazed white gold as energy exploded outward forcing the entity to recoil.
The traitor staggered backward stunned.
“You dare,” the darkness hissed.
Andrew roared.
“I choose my people.”
The backlash was immediate.
Chains of light wrapped around Andrew’s arms crushing bone forcing him to his knees as blood streamed from his nose and mouth.
Amanda screamed his name.
The entity laughed.
“One falls,” it said. “Another follows.”
Amanda felt the truth crash into her.
This was not a test of strength.
It was a test of loss.
She rose slowly silver flames condensing inward until they burned white hot.
“No,” she said quietly. “This ends now.”
The tether surged violently responding to her resolve.
Ethan cried out as his markings burned brighter than ever.
Amanda lifted her hands.
And severed something inside herself.
The chamber went silent.
The entity shrieked.
“What have you done,” it roared.
Amanda trembled blood streaming from her eyes.
“I chose myself,” she whispered.
The tether shattered.
Ethan collapsed lifeless.
Andrew screamed.
The fortress cracked violently collapsing inward as the entity howled in rage.
Then Ethan inhaled sharply.
Power erupted from his body uncontrolled wild terrifying.
His eyes opened glowing silver and black.
“I am no longer bound,” he said calmly voice layered and unfamiliar. “I am something else now.”
The traitor backed away in fear.
“You broke the law,” he whispered to Amanda. “You doomed us all.”
Amanda turned toward him expression cold.
“No,” she replied. “I ended your game.”
The fortress began sealing itself.
The entity retreated screaming threats of return.
Andrew collapsed barely conscious.
Ethan stood unmoving power radiating unpredictably.
Amanda felt something missing inside her.
Something vital.
And something awakening far beyond it.
The Luna ascended.
But the cost had only begun to reveal itself.
