Chapter 90 Pain.
Lily’s pov.
I wake up to the sound of Creed yelling.
“We’re under attack! The war is beginning!”
I groan as I try to sit up and open my eyes.
“What’s- what’s going on?” I mumble, feeling my head pounding.
“Lily!” Creed says frantically, “war is here… I- I can’t stay with you… I need to go, I need to fight.”
I clutch his hand quickly, with what little strength I have left.
“Please- I- I need you,” I stutter, tears rolling down my face.
“I can’t… you know they need me,” he whispers while his own tears roll down his face.
“Go…” I mumble, my bottom lip trembling as an excruciating pain tears through my stomach.
I scream out in pain as my body lunches and tightens in on itself.
“Lily!” I hear Raya cry out.
Creed grabs my hands desperately, putting his forehead against mine.
“You… you’ll be okay, I’ll be back as soon as I can. The babies won’t come before then… please, I want to be here when they are born,” Creed whispers softly, his tears falling onto my face.
“I-I can’t promise-,” I tried to say when another excruciating pain tears through me, making me gasp for breath.
“I’m so sorry,” Creed says softly, brushing strands of hair that are soaked with sweat out of my face.
“Just… go,” I stumble out, pushing his hands away.
He gives me a hurt look, taking a deep breath before running out of the door, straight towards battle.
I grip my stomach as another contraction rips through me.
“Ahhh!” I scream, feeling as if my body is closing in on itself.
“Lily!” Raya sobs, “it’ll be okay! You’ll be okay!”
I grit my teeth as I bear through the pain, having never experienced this kind of brutal pain before.
“I’m… trying,” I manage to get out, taking gasps of air.
“Little flower…” I hear a voice I never thought I’d hear right now say.
I slowly turn my head in the direction and instantly burst into tears upon seeing Eric.
“Eric!” I cry out, lifting my arms that feel like lead, wanting so badly for him to hold me tightly.
Without a word he scoops me up into his arms, shushing me softly while murmuring soothing words into my ear.
“I’m here, little flower,” he says, “I’m not going anywhere, just breathe.”
I try to do as he says, taking deep breaths as I hiccup on my sobs.
“It- it hurts,” I whimper, curling myself into him.
“I know,” he whispers quietly, “you’re so strong. The strongest person I know… once these babies are born… it’ll all be worth it.”
I wipe the tears from my eyes with shaky hands, smiling up at Eric with the best smile I could muster.
I go to say something when another contraction rips through my body, making me scream out as my body lurches violently.
“Breathe!” Eric instructs me, holding my body tightly so I don’t hurt myself.
I take gasps of breath, trying to fill my lungs.
It feels as if somebody is sitting on top of my chest, making it impossible to get any air.
“How is she doing?” I hear my grandmother ask as she comes barreling through the door.
Her hands are full of herbs and different coloured liquids.
“I… I think she’s doing okay,” Eric mumbles, for I think the first time since I’ve known him.
I look up at his face, seeing tears falling from his eyes.
With a shaky hand I reach out and wipe them away, giving him the best smile I could manage to give.
“I’m okay,” I say, voice shaking despite the effort I put in to sound strong.
“Shh,” he whispers, running a hand down my hair, “save your strength, okay?”
I nod my head slightly, leaning into him, trying to save what little strength I have.
“I’ve got an abundance of herbs and potions here,” my grandmother mutters, placing different things down in front of her while mumbling nonchalant words to herself.
“Do you think any of that can help her?” Raya asks nervously, glancing towards me with tears in her eyes.
“This,” my grandmother says while swirling a small vial of liquid around, “is Moonpetal Blossom… it should dull her pain and bring her some comfort.”
My grandmother came over to me slowly, helping me drink the liquid.
Almost immediately I started to feel better… but it was gone as fast as it came, making me feel worse than before…
“What the hell is happening to her?” Eric yells frantically, gripping me tightly as if that would make the pain go away.
“I don’t know,” my grandmother whispers with widened eyes, “her- her magic is reacting badly to it, I don’t think anything will help her… this is the price she has to pay for the dark magic her dragon has been using.”
I groan out in pain as another wave hits me.
“Where is this other witch that was supposed to be here!? Can’t the two of you do something?!? Anything!” He replies back to her.
“They should be here any minute,” she whispers softly, squeezing my hand.
I feel myself about to slip out of consciousness when I hear Sapphire whispering in my mind.
‘I’m sorry, Lily. I never wanted this to happen.’
‘What is happening to me, to us,’ I ask her, desperate to know why I feel so much pain.
‘I had too, I had no choice,’ she replies so quietly in my mind her voice feels like an echo.
‘No choice in what,’ I ask frustrated, pain tearing through my entire body.
‘The goddess demanded it… we had to be ready… for the war.’
