Chapter 83 Inevitable.
Lily’s pov.
“They look great,” my grandmother says, “fully developed. They could be born any day… When you feel like you’re about to go into labour you need to have somebody notify me immediately. We can’t have you deliver them naturally, it’s too dangerous.”
I sigh, nodding my head in acknowledgment, still unable to shake the feeling from earlier.
I know I was being watched. I felt it.
I couldn’t smell anything but I could sense somebody was there.
“That’s good, I think?” Creed says, making me giggle.
“It’s good but bad, it’s risky having them early and the fact Lily has to have a c section,” my grandmother explains, making Creed frown.
“There’s no way of avoiding that? I don’t want her to go through that,” he says with his lips pressed into a thin line, not liking the fact I’ll be cut open.
I grab his hand, giving it a squeeze.
“It’ll be fine. We will do what we have to do to make sure the babies are safe. That’s all I care about,” I whisper.
Creed gives me a not approved look, closing his eyes as if this is difficult for him.
“You’re my mate. Nothing can happen to you…” he whispers, voice breaking around the edges slightly, “we- we can always get pregnant again… but I can’t bring you back to life if you die.”
“Creed,” I say sternly, “you don’t say that. We don’t know what’s going to happen, I could die, I could live. These babies… They mean everything to me. You will do what you have to do… to make sure they live, do you understand me?”
He looks away from me, as if my words burned him.
“I won’t promise anything,” he mutters before walking away, leaving us in silence.
“Well,” Raya suddenly says, breaking the silence, “I’m so glad everything is okay so far, Lily. Would it be okay to check on the twins?”
I laugh loudly, pushing her gently towards the seat I was just in, “obviously! I want to know how they’re doing.”
I take a seat beside Ryan, smiling over at Raya and my grandmother. Watching them gush over Raya’s babies.
“He’s scared, you know,” Ryan whispers quietly from beside me, “he doesn’t want to lose you.”
“He won’t,” I mutter, feeling a little angry, “he can’t see the future. We don’t know what will happen but even if I did die… he’d still have a piece of me in every one of our children.”
“It’s not the same,” he sighs, gazing over at his mate, “we wouldn’t be the same without you guys… you complete us. The other halves of our souls. Creed is so deeply in love with you, I’m scared it would break him.”
I suck in a sharp inhale of breath, looking away from Ryan.
“He can’t let it…” I whisper while tears roll down my face, “if something happens to me… promise you’ll watch over him, the kids too. Just please, promise that.”
Ryan sighs softly, giving me a quick pat on the back, “I promise.”
“How are they doing?” I ask Raya suddenly, getting up from my seat and making my way over to her.
“Great! Except… they are also massive, I mean, look at me!” She laughs while gesturing towards herself, “they could be born within a few weeks…”
“Wow… this is happening- fast,” I say quietly, looking at Raya with a sad look in my eyes.
“It is,” she agrees, standing up and giving me an awkward hug, “but we’re in this together.”
“I gotta go find Creed… can I catch up with you later?” I ask, looking towards the direction Creed left earlier, feeling bad for dismissing my friend but I can’t shake the feeling that Creed needs me.
Raya nods her head with a knowing look on her face, waking back over to Ryan.
I smile at my grandmother before leaving, heading towards Creed's office.
As I get outside his office door I push it open without a knock, coming face to face with my teary eyed mate.
“Oh, Creed,” I mumble while taking quick steps towards him, putting his head on my chest as he cries softly.
“I can’t lose you… I won’t lose you,” he whispers, sounding so broken.
“Hey, shh. You won’t lose me, ever,” I say, trying to reassure him.
“You don’t know that, Lily. Anything could happen…”
“Trust me, my love,” I whisper quietly, squeezing him closer to me, “Sapphire wouldn’t let me die.”
As I say that I feel her stir inside of me, like an unspoken promise.
“It’s just- it’s too much. All of this is too much… Where is the time going? We’ve barely had the chance to breathe,” he exhaled, leaning back in his chair.
“I know… trust me, I know. It’s a lot. I question it too. I wish we had more time… more time to be in the moment, together.”
Creed lets out a shaky sigh, putting his head in his hands.
“We don’t deserve this, all of it. We deserved happiness… my grandmother? The goddess- she gave us this fate,” he says with a laugh, sounding a little crazed.
“Hey… let’s not think about that for now. We are happy, right?” I say, trying to distract him.
He rolls his eyes slightly at me, giving me a tiny grin, “of course I’m happy, Lily. But all of the shit we’ve been through? That you've been through? I am beyond angry, we shouldn’t have had to live through hell.”
I scoff slightly, knowing that everything happens for a reason. No matter how good or how bad… It happens for a reason.
“Everything happens for a reason… I think… what happened to me, brought us together,” I whisper, smiling as I think of the first time I met Creed, “if I didn’t move here, we would’ve never found each other.”
He sighs, smiling at me, knowing I’m right.
“I’m sorry, you’re right. I’m just so unbelievably stressed out. This war…” he starts to say, pausing to gather his words, “it’s inevitable. It’s coming for us, and there’s nothing we can do to stop it.”
