Chapter 61 Twin Betas.
Creed’s pov.
Placing my head in my hands I let out a sigh of frustration. Another day and we still don’t know anymore about Danny Further.
Every tracker I’ve sent out has come back empty handed, no sign of him anywhere. It doesn’t help that he has taken over Athena’s body, not everyone knows exactly what they are looking for.
“Damnit!” I yell, slamming my fists into my desk once again, causing everything to spill onto the floor.
‘It’ll be okay, Creed,’ my dragon whispers to me, ‘we’ll find him.’
‘I know…’ I whisper back sadly, ‘it’s just hard. We need to find him. I can’t risk anything, not now, we finally have our mate back and she’s- she’s pregnant with our fledglings… I can’t let anything happen’
Gathering up all the paperwork that fell to the ground I start to go through it again. Every word I read goes into my head and right back out. I can’t concentrate at all with the threat of Lily's father looming over us.
It’s a constant thought in the back of my head, I don’t think I’ll ever be able to stop until he’s dead.
As I’m reading a contract I’ve read about five times now, Ryan comes through my office door.
I look up at him with a frown on my face, not really wanting any company right now, “what’s up?”
“There’s something I’ve been meaning to tell you,” he mumbled, not looking me in the eye.
I raise an eyebrow at him questionably, “go on?”
“Raya’s pregnant!” He all but blurts out, his words blending together.
“Raya’s pregnant?” I ask slowly, making sure I understand what he’s saying.
“Yes,” he breathes out in relief, like a weight lifting off of his shoulders, “we found out a week ago, she’s about eight weeks along and- it’s twins!”
“Wow!” I say, genuinely happy for my best friend, “our children can grow up together like we did.”
I give Ryan a crooked smile and walk towards him, pulling him into a brotherly hug, “I’m happy for you.”
“Thanks, Creed. Raya wants to tell Lily so make sure you keep this between us!” He laughs, making me laugh too.
“Alright, alright. Don’t worry, I won’t say a word,” I say while chuckling.
After a small conversation Ryan leaves, stating he wants to help on border control today, I said my goodbyes and dived back into my work. I need to get something finished before I can leave.
‘Creed?’ I hear Lily's voice whisper into my head, making me smile.
‘Yes, sweetheart?’ I responded instantly, loving the sound of my mates voice in my head.
‘Have you talked to Alex yet? Or Raya? They haven’t shown up yet…’she whispered again, sounding unsure.
‘That’s weird. I told Alex to go to our room when she was ready, Ryan came in earlier and I also told him you wanted to see Raya, he was acting very weird when he was here though. Which is unusual for him… I’m sure they’ll be there soon, love,’ I mumbled, getting distracted by the paperwork in front of me.
‘Okay, thank you. I’ll let you get back to your work,’ Lily says softly, closing our link down.
I sigh at the loss of her voice, wanting nothing more than to go back to my mate right now.
‘We’ll have her all to ourselves later…’ Hunter says in my mind, making me smile.
Thinking about all of the things I can do to her later…
Shaking my head I try to clear my intrusive thoughts, putting them away for later.
After doing some light paperwork and signing a major business deal with the king of Radian I decide to call it a day. I’ve only met king Ethan a few times, he’s a young king, only twenty six years old. He’s the elven king, who took over his fathers kingdom at the age of eighteen. He’s not a bad king but like I said, I’ve only met him a few times.
I don’t think my brain can handle any more work today. Placing all of my files and paperwork away for tomorrow I start to leave when I hear footsteps outside of my door revealing Jason walking in.
“I was just about to leave,” I said quietly, “what do you need?”
Jason sighs while running a hand through his hair, “I feel like since all of the stuff that has happened I’ve been pushed away- I know I shouldn’t even be here saying this stuff to you but I feel like our friendship matters. If there’s anything I can do, anything at all, don't hesitate to ask me. Whatever I can do to make it up to you guys.”
“Jason… we haven’t tried to push you away. There’s just a lot going on right now. We’re at two different stages in life and when you find your mate you’ll understand. You’ll always be our friend, and I appreciate your offer for help. Right now the only thing on my mind is finding Lily's father, he’s still out there and my fledglings are in danger until he’s dead. Lily isn’t capable of defending herself right now, Sapphire is so weak from all of the poison they pumped into her and from protecting the babies. She is my number one concern and until then I’m afraid I can’t prioritize our friendship,” I say softly, meaning every word I say. No matter what he thinks our friendship will always mean something to me, to Hunter.
Giving me a nod of understanding, Jason straightens up his posture, “I understand. I will do everything in my power to find him, I promise you that,” he declares before turning around and leaving my office.
I honestly feel bad that Jason feels that way. It was never my intention to make him feel as if I was throwing our friendship away.
‘He understands. His dragon told me he does, but it will still hurt as he cares about our friendship,’ Hunter says, making me feel a little better.
Leaving my office I start to make my way back to my room, eager to hold my mate. Hunter purrs in my mind like a cat in heat at the thought of his mate. Making me roll my eyes and smile slightly.
As I get to our room I see my door is ajar slightly, “Lily?” I call out, pushing the door open before walking in.
