Chapter 35 Something Weird Is Going On.

Chapter 35 Something Weird Is Going On.
Lily's pov.
my mother let out an ear piercing scream, the kind where you know it’s going to end up fatal.

I drop to my knees in front of her not believing my eyes, three arrows are sticking out of her stomach, arrows that were meant for me.

“Mother!” I cry out. I clutch her stomach trying to stop the bleeding but it is futile, there’s nothing I can do to stop it.

“Now, now, Lily. This was meant to happen. She was standing in our way!” My father screams at me.

“No!” I scream back, “she was never meant to die!” Still scrambling at my mothers belly, tears purging out of my eyes.

“She was! So shut up, and get up! Either fight me or go back to the cells. You choose!” He yells angrily.

Sapphire roars out in anger, coming to the front of my mind and yelling out, “you killed our mother! You must die now!”

Danny’s eyes widened impossibly big, his mouth dropped open basically to the ground. Sapphire wastes no time in shifting into all of her glory, towering over him.

He looks like he’s literally going to shit his pants but tries to school his reaction and barks out orders, “subdue her! Don’t kill her! We need her, she’s the last female dragon!”

Sapphire and I smirk internally because we know he’s not going to live to see another day. Before we go at him Sapphire releases her dragon's breath at the tree holding the archers, three tree trunks are engulfed in flames making it impossible for them to get out.

Without wasting anymore time Sapphire unleashed a deadly screech of purple mist, Danny screams while holding his hands over his ears, stopping him from even thinking of shifting into his dragon.

Not wanting to even see his face any longer, Sapphire unleashes Her dragon's breath,  deadly purple fire so big it burns his body to nothing.

“You did this to yourself..” she forces out of her vocal cords, before she allows me to take control again.

As soon as his followers notice he’s dead they start to scatter and run.

“Retreat! Retreat!”

Everyone scatters in all directions trying to get away, Creed kills as many as he can, as does Raya and Ryan.

“Athena!” Raya cries out, dropping to her knees in front of my mothers dead body.

I quickly shift back into my human form, curling my fingers around my mothers hands.

“no, no, no,” is all I could say, because she’s gone, lifeless. Her soul has already left her body. Her eyes are still open, looking directly at me.

A gut wrenching sob tears out of me and I feel the mate bond sparks as Creed wraps his arms around me, holding me tight.

I latch on to him like he’s my lifeline, scared to let go.

“Ryan, bring her body back to the tribe,” Creed says quietly to Ryan, he nods at Creed but I cut them off.

“No,” I say firmly, “I’ll bring her home.”

Creeds pov.
The sob that tore from Lily's lungs was horrifying, it shook the trees and sent any animal skittering away.

Without hesitation I wrapped my arms around her and held her close, she grabbed onto like I might disappear somewhere and wouldn’t let go.

I looked at Ryan and a mutual understanding passed between us, “Ryan, bring her body back to the tribe,”  I said quietly.

Ryan nods at me but Lily cuts us off, “no,” she says firmly, “I’ll bring her home.”

I sigh but don’t say anything else, helping her stand up we plan how we’ll get her body home safely.

Mid conversation about getting back, Lily wordlessly opens a portal to the tribe and walks through with Raya while they clutch her body together.

Ryan and I exchange glances but say no more and walk through the portal along with the warriors that were brought to fight.

Being back in my tribe has me feeling lighter, the mission ultimately failed… but hopefully Lily and I can be at peace soon.

“I want to have a proper funeral for her, Creed,” Lily abruptly turns towards me with tears in her eyes and says.

I nod at her, “of course.”

A few hours later, Lily is standing in front of her mothers casket. She wasted no time in getting everything done and over with.

She grabs her mothers pale hand and whispers, “Ma, you were everything to me… you were the best mom even if I was mad at you more times than I can count,” she laughs slightly, “I can’t believe you’re gone…” as she finishes the last part her tears start to fall onto her mothers skin.

Where her tears land little trails of shining light leaves a path along her mothers skin, intricate designs start to show up everywhere the tears touch. It starts to glow so bright and Lily's and my Hair starts to fly from the wind that’s beginning to explore around us.

Athena’s skin starts to pink and have more colour, like she’s coming back to life

Lily gasps but clutches her mothers hands tighter, she takes a deep breath and closes her eyes, as if concentrating.

Athena’s hands start to twitch, and her eyes fly open, she sits up fast clutching her stomach where the wounds she had are clear skin again.

“Mother!” Lily cried out, pulling her into a warm embrace.

Something in Athena’s eyes doesn't look quite right but she wraps her hands around Lily anyways and says, “Lily?”

Looking around skeptically, it’s like she realizes something and starts to keep a more neutral look on her face.

“Lily, I’m okay, give me a chance to breathe… I-I need a moment alone,” she says quietly.

“Oh- of course, we’ll be over there,” Lily points and grabs my hand to drag me along, I look over my shoulder and see Athena glaring daggers at me, as she notices me looking she quickly looks away.

‘That’s weird, right Hunter?’ I ask my dragon warily.

‘Yes, that was weird indeed, Creed,’ Hunter replies to me, ‘something weird is going on.’

For the rest of the night, Lily wouldn’t leave her mothers side. She gushed over her mating with me and how she plans on having her ceremony as soon as possible, but Athena’s smile just didn’t quite reach her eyes.

Lily doesn’t seem to notice anything wrong but I do, she doesn’t talk about dresses or helping her get ready, she doesn’t ask how happy I make her or how she will handle being queen. No, she just smiles slightly and says she’s happy for her.

The food on her plate at dinner was basically untouched, Lily chatted animatedly while shoving her face full of food, Athena always had a weird look on her face , but again, Lily must’ve not noticed.

‘Ryan,’ I mindlink him, ‘keep an eye on Lily's mother, something is not right.’

‘Yes sir, I’ll do my best,’ he replies. I almost forgot he found his mate, Rayali. My goddess I can’t believe that’s his mate.

Brushing that thought from my mind I sit up abruptly, halting any conversation that was happening.

“My apologies, please excuse me,” I say calmly, doing my best to keep my expression neutral.

Before I can walk away I hear Lily's voice sound small and unsure, “Creed?”

I turn around and see her uneasy expression. She must wonder why I’m not happy for her, she just saved her mothers life, and it’s not as if I’m not happy for her, it's just that I can’t seem to shake this feeling in my stomach.
