Chapter 238 Khloe
Khloe's P.O.V.
I try to get my hands loose, but the zip ties are too tight. If I could see where I am, I could at least get my hands in front of me, but I don't know if I'm alone because I'm blindfolded. Dakota is my big sister. She has prepared all of us in case we are ever kidnapped.
I rub my face against the rough carpet I'm lying on and move the blindfold enough to see where I am. After my eyes adjust to the dark, I can see I'm in what looks like a closet with no clothes. It's dark, and there are no windows. The only light is coming from under the door.
The man who took me was on the elevator when I got on, and he looked surprised to see me. When I pushed the button to go down to Madison's apartment, he moved behind me, and I felt something sting my neck.
"You can thank your sister for this," he said as I began to fall. The next thing I remember is waking up in this closet. I'm not sure why he blindfolded me because I already saw him on the elevator. I wonder why he's upset with Dakota. Whatever she did, I'm sure he deserved it. My sister is my hero. I want to be just like her when I'm an adult, so I have to start thinking like her now.
I slide my hands down over my butt and bend over so I can slide them down my legs. Once my hands are in front of me, I remove the blindfold and stand. I put my ear against the door to see if I can hear anyone in the room outside the closet. I can hear people talking, but it's muffled, so they must be in another part of the house. I'm assuming I'm in a house because the closet looks like a bedroom closet.
I look around the closet for something that will cut through the zip ties, but it seems empty. I listen for any noise in the room, and when I don't hear anything, I slowly turn the doorknob. I peek into the room, which is empty except for a bed and a dresser. I wonder whose house I'm at.
I quietly search the dresser drawers for something sharp, but there's nothing in them. I walk slowly to the bedroom door and listen to the men talking.
"You have her; now my part is done. I'm out of here." That's the man who took me. I remember his voice from the elevator.
"You're not going anywhere. How do we know you won't run to Dakota the first chance you get to tell her who has her precious baby sister?" That man's voice sounds familiar, but I don't know from where.
"Why would I do that? I don't owe her anything." The man from the elevator says. I hope he's not trying to convince the other man because even I can tell how scared he is. Who is he afraid of, the man he's talking to or Dakota? If he had any brains, he would be scared of my sister. He's as good as dead when she gets her hands on him.
"That's what you say, but you know as soon as we let you leave, your conscience will get the better of you, and you'll run to Dakota and beg for forgiveness. Do you think she will forgive you for drugging and kidnapping her sister? Just think about all the people who have wronged her and what she’s done to them. Imagine what she would do to a nobody like you." I hear another man and a woman laughing. How many people are here?
"I've been in the Kondrati’s negotiation room, and trust me, once you go in, the only way you're coming out is in pieces." I freeze when I hear another man speak. I know that voice.
"You lived to tell about it, so how did you get out?" my kidnapper asks.
"I wasn't in the chair." I can't remember who he is. I need to see him, but there is no way I'm opening this door right now. I glance around the room and look at the window. Can I open it without them hearing?
"That's enough. You're staying here until this is over. Dakota should know Khloe is gone by now, and she's going to be frantically looking for her. We need to get ready for our first demand, and if she doesn't give it to us, then we'll start sending her sister to her in pieces." I don't like the sound of that. I walk over to the window and feel like doing a happy dance when I see it's only a few feet down to the ground. Now, if I can just get it open.
I look at the old lock and bite my lip. Can I move it without making any noise? I have to try. I raise my hands and push on the lock gently at first, but it doesn't budge. I listen, and the men are still arguing, so I push it a little harder, and it slides open with very little noise. I wait a few seconds to make sure no one heard anything, and then I try to raise the window, but it doesn't move. It's older, and who knows how long it's been since it's been opened, but I have to get out of here.
I push it harder, and it finally begins to move, squeaking a little. I pause and listen, but all I hear is talking in the other room, so I continue. I raise it just enough for me to get out. There's no screen, which makes it even easier. I give one last look toward the bedroom door before putting one leg out. With my hands still bound with zip ties, it makes it a little harder, but I get the other leg out and jump down. I squat down beside the side of the house to get my bearings. I have no idea where I am, but I need to get out of here. Just as I stand up, I hear the bedroom door open, and I glance through the window. I see the man whose voice I know and the woman with him. I know them both. I have to tell Dakota.
"SHE'S GONE!" the woman yells. I begin running as fast as I can, but I don't get far when someone grabs me from behind and puts their hand over my mouth when I try to scream.
"Shhhh. Don't say anything." A chill runs down my spine when I realize who has me. He can't be one of the kidnappers; he's been part of our family for years.
