Chapter 199 Preparing
Dakota's P.O.V.
I look at Gabe in disbelief. He is one of the last people I thought would betray me. He looks up from his computer, then looks around in confusion.
"What's wrong?" he asks.
“Why did you do it? Why did you help Myra?" I ask him.
"What do you mean? I didn't help her." I walk over and show Gabe the picture Sarah sent me of him leaving the explosive at Lydia's door.
"That's me, but I didn't know what was in the package. Remember when I told you I got a part-time job at a courier service? I've dropped off many packages, but I never know what's in them. I would never hurt you or anyone else." His eyes fill with tears as he looks at me.
"Can you open the app you use for the courier service and show us that this was sent to you like your other deliveries?" Ari asks him. After what happened with Jamie, I know he's always been suspicious of some of the people I've let stay with us. I’ve been keeping an eye on everyone, too, but Gabe is the last person I would have suspected because he seems too soft to be deceitful.
"What day was it, and what's your address?" Gabe asks as he pulls out his phone. Lydia gives him the information, he scrolls through the phone, and then hands it to me.
"This was my route for that day," he says. He had ten orders. Each one has the pickup address and the drop-off address. Lydia's is the third one down. There's a place for messages from the sender, but there aren't any for Myra's package. It seems like he's telling the truth, and it was a coincidence that he delivered to Lydia. The problem is, I don't believe in coincidences. Even if Gabe was clueless, I'm sure Myra somehow made sure Gabe was the one delivering the package.
"I believe you, but I need you to stop working for them right now. We all need to stick together because Myra knows too much about our family. Can you do that?" I ask as I hand his phone back to him.
"Yes. I was only working there because I didn't want you to think I was freeloading while I was here." He dries his eyes, and once again, I think he doesn't belong here, but I'll talk with him about that after we get rid of Myra.
"Okay, I'm glad we got that sorted out," I say as Sarah and Xavier walk in carrying a few bags. They hand them to Lydia and look at Gabe.
"What's going on?" Sarah asks. I quickly tell them about Gabe's part-time job and our plan to set up Myra at Zakhar and Amanda's house.
"I will get everyone prepared," Xavier says as he kisses Sarah and leaves the room. It's funny to see his face turn red when he realizes Sarah's parents, Courtney and Bobby, are watching them.
"So what do we do now to stop the bad lady?" Enzo asks. I understand why my parents were so hesitant to have me around Grandpa, Chrissy, and my uncles when I was little. I don't like Enzo being involved in everything we're doing, but I also want him to be informed so he knows who the bad guys are.
