Chapter 180 Benny
Dakota's P.O.V.
"Perfect. Did you tell him Jamie was dead?" I smile as Benny sits in a chair across from me. Galdino told me that Quincy thought Benny was going to spy for him, but he hadn't asked him to do anything for him yet. We decided to help convince Quincy that Benny was on his side, and we wanted Benny to tell him about Jamie's death.
"Yeah. He wasn't that upset. He just said I need to kill you or Ari; he doesn't care which one." I sit back in my chair.
"Did you tell Galdino yet?" Benny smiles and shakes his head.
"No, he's busy." I chuckle. Valentina definitely isn't quiet. I'm glad Enzo is busy with Ari.
"The assassin and the mob boss. It sounds like a book someone needs to write. Do you have any suggestions on how we should deal with Quincy? Personally, I would like to bury my knife in his skull." Benny throws his head back and laughs.
"You are very good with those knives. I can string Quincy along for a while until we decide what to do. He tries to play it cool most of the time, but he's a sick son of a bitch. He doesn't have a wife because he believes in raping and torturing women for sport. He's into trafficking, so I wasn't surprised that he and Yegor were working together. He's one I would love to see you filet with a knife." Benny is a gem. I hope Galdino realizes how lucky he is to have him.
"Out of curiosity, what would it take for you to turn your back on Galdino and betray him?" He shakes his head.
"Nothing. Santino took me off the street when I was nothing but a little thug breaking into buildings and raising hell. My parents didn't want me, so I ended up on the streets. I made what I thought was a mistake by breaking into one of Santino's businesses. However, rather than killing me like I expected, he offered me a family. Some people only see us as criminals who are skilled at not getting caught, but we're more than that. Santino treated me like a son, and Galdino has always treated me more like a brother than an employee. I owe them my life because I would have most likely gotten myself killed a long time ago if it weren't for them."
"I'm glad Sandy gave you a chance. You're a good man." Benny smiles.
"I'm pretty sure your influence made him that way, and I know you were the only one allowed to call him Sandy. The word on the street was that Santino was not a forgiving man. I kept hearing him talk about Dakota and wondered if he was talking about North or South Dakota. It wasn't until I heard Galdino complaining about him taking advice from a child that I realized you were a person. You affect more people than you realize. Everyone you encounter is scared of you, but they also respect you. That's not easy to accomplish at such a young age." I can see why Grandpa Sandy liked him. He has street smarts and common sense.
"Thanks. Sometimes, it can be overwhelming. I've known since I was a child that Grandpa Chrissy was grooming me to take over. I expected complications, but not so many at once. It's hard to find the people who are loyal and those who are fake." Benny nods and sighs.
"Yeah, Galdino had that same issue when he took over. Some people were loyal to Santino, but that loyalty didn't continue with him. From what I've seen, the people you have here seem loyal. You also have an amazing family, both blood and non-blood." It feels good to hear someone from the outside acknowledge what I'm trying to build. I need my own people, not those who were devoted to Grandpa Chrissy.
"I'm trying to find out what my family is doing here today. They never come here to hang out." Benny chuckles, and I raise my eyebrow. "Do you know something?"
"Don't tell your mom you heard it from me, but they're here to support you. None of them wants to tell you they're here to help because they don't want you to feel like they're trying to step on your toes." He's right; I have an incredible family.
