Chapter 132 Fire
Galdino's P.O.V.
I watch my beautiful home burn as we pull away. The compound has been in our family for centuries, and the main house was the one structure that hadn't been changed. There are so many memories in that house. A piece of my heart is burning with it. Dakota puts her hand on my shoulder, and I turn to look at her.
"Don't worry. We'll find out who did this. No one fucks with my family." I pat her hand and smile slightly. I wish she knew how much respect I have for her. I could tell her until I was blue in the face, but she still wouldn't know. She is the strongest person I have ever met, male or female.
"I know we will." She squeezes my shoulder and sits back.
"Take us to my house. We can shower and change there. I want to get back to the hospital before anything else happens." My driver does what she says and heads toward the Kondrati compound. I can't help feeling a little out of place when we pull up. This was one place I never thought I'd be welcome.
"Don't worry, we don't bite. Now that we can't stay at your place, we can stay here. Can we have your men replace mine for now? I'm still not sure who I can trust. Although, how did someone get onto your property to burn your house down?" I wasn't even thinking of that. How did someone get past my security? Unless it was someone who was already there?
"That's a good question. I don't know who we can trust. Let's get cleaned up and go to the hospital." I get out of the SUV and follow Dakota into her house, which looks similar to mine.
"Give me a minute, and I'll get you some clothes. Dad, do you need any?" I look at her parents. They're nice people, but I know they're concerned about their daughter. I can't blame them. I would be worried if I had a daughter, but not with Dakota. She's more boss material than Ari.
"No, I'm good." Dakota and Anushka walk up the stairs.
"I thought I would be disgusted seeing Dakota do what she did, but I wasn't. Seeing Christov killed and how close the bullet came to her was nothing compared to how she felt all these years, knowing he had saved her life. She thinks that we don't know that she and the others had been trying to find the killer, but they're not as sneaky as they think they are. Honestly, we thought you had hired someone." I look at Jordan and smile slightly.
"That's not my style, but I understand why you thought that. I changed after my dad died. I would never hurt anyone from this family. I can't make that same promise for most of the other families. I see why my dad was so hung up on Dakota. Even when she was little, he said she would change the world. I thought he was crazy until I met her myself." Jordan chuckles and nods.
"Yeah, she's one of a kind." We look up when Dakota and Anushka come back carrying clothes.
"What are you talking about?" Dakota asks, looking at us suspiciously.
"You," we say simultaneously.
"Well, then, please continue as long as it's good. These should fit you." She hands me a pair of black pants and a black button-up shirt. "You can use the guest bedroom down the hallway, second door on the right."
"Thanks." As I walk to the guest room, something nags at me. Why hasn't anyone called me to tell me about my house? The police, my staff at the compound, no one. I pull out my phone after laying the clothes on the bed. There are no missed calls, but there is a text from an anonymous number.
Make Ari leave Dakota, or the loss of your house will be the least of your problems.
Why are so many people interested in Ari and Dakota's relationship? We need to return to the hospital before someone tries something else.
