Chapter 131 Justice
Dakota's P.O.V.
"You tried to kill me and ended up killing my grandpa. You planted the bomb that's left the man I love so badly burned he can't even walk right now. You kidnapped my mom and left her here to be raped. What do you think your sentence should be? Community service?" I stand in front of him and look into his eyes. Dominick doesn't even show a little regret.
"I wish I had been successful in killing you. You're worse than everyone else. What gives you the right to decide who lives and who dies?" Is this jackass serious? I punch him in the face and feel his nose break.
"What gives me the right? What gives you the right? You wouldn't be here if it weren't for you killing my grandpa and trying to kill people in my family. You set everything in motion for your death. You have no one to blame but yourself." I use the same pipe on him that I used on the detective. I hit him for killing Grandpa Chrissy, for the burns Ari has, for everyone else that was in the SUV, and for kidnapping my mom. I don't see anything as I hit him. All I see is red. When I feel someone wrap their arms around me, I expect it to be my mom or dad, but it's Galdino.
"He's gone," he says. I drop the pipe and cry on his shoulder. I've never killed anyone before, and I'm not sad about what I did, but I'm upset that it led to this. I look at my parents and expect to see disgust or disappointment, but I don't. They look proud.
Galdino makes arrangements to get rid of the bodies and clean up the evidence while we pile into the vans. Mom sits between Dad and me.
"Dakota, for a long time, I tried to think of ways for you not to be the head of this family. However, after today, I realize everyone was right. You were born to lead this family. I know it's a weird thing to say, but I'm proud of you. Grandpa Chrissy and Santino would be proud of you, too." I hug my mom. She doesn't know how much those words mean to me. I have always worried I would disappoint them because I didn't follow the path they wanted.
"Galdino, I don't want to go to the hospital like this. Everyone there already looks at me like I'm scary. Can we get showers at your place?" He turns and smiles at me.
"Of course. I'll have everything ready." He pulls out his phone and begins texting. My mom and dad both watch him with curiosity.
"Do you think Ari will be okay with us meeting him even though he's still in the hospital? We saw him in the meeting, but didn’t get to officially meet him." I smile and nod.
"At this point, I don't think he'll care. I'm sure he's going out of his mind with worry." I take out my phone and call Noah.
"Hello?"
"Hey, we're done. We're going to shower at Galdino's, and then we'll be there." I tell him.
"Is that Dakota? Let me talk to her. Is she okay?" I hear Ari in the background.
"Hang on, your man is going crazy. I almost had to use your baseball bat on him. Talk to him so he'll calm down." I smile as I look out of the window.
"Dakota?"
"Hi. We're all done, and we'll be there after we stop and take showers." One thing I learned from my grandpa was never to say anything incriminating over the phone because you never know who's listening.
"Good. It's not the same here without you. They've all threatened to beat me if I get out of bed. Did you train them or something? Even Shea was threatening me." I laugh lightly.
"What can I say? I rub off on people. My parents want to meet you, so they're coming to the hospital with me."
"Okay, just please hurry. I love you."
"I love you too." I disconnect the call as we begin to slow down. The street is filled with police cars.
"What's going on?" I ask, looking around. I look ahead and see Galdino's house engulfed in flames. We can't be here looking like this with all the police.
"Get us out of here," I tell the driver. He hesitates and looks at his boss.
"Now, unless you want all of us to go to jail," I yell at him. He turns down a side street, and I look back at the compound. I know this wasn't an accident, and I'm determined to find out who is to blame. I'm tired of people fucking with my family.
