Chapter 88. His Visit
Ashley
It was almost sundown when I'm back in the house from roaming around few of the malls in town. I also spent some of my time hanging out with my mom's people at the restaurant. Pretending that nothing is wrong with me, yet deep inside I know that my life is never the same after we all agree to the proposal of the great Alpha King in order to keep the peace in our town.
To be bethrothed to Prince Vincent, the son of Alpha King Jack would be a previlidge to other girls but not for me. I wanted to fall in love with a normal being, even though the Prince is considered as the hottest boy in town or the most handsome man that I have ever laid my eyes on.
The plan is just to make the bad wolves go away because of the powerful ally we have with the Alpha King, as me being officially his son's fiancee when I turned eighteen. It is only for a show, it is not a real engagement. But to my father it is real, he wanted me to be married to the Prince of wolves ever since he met Jack Langston the King Alpha of wolves .
I can feel by the way my parents reacts with the Prince around, when we were at the Palace. They were all set to be Prince Vincent's inlaws.
"Miss Ashley?"
The voice of Nina outside my bedroom door alerted my senses, I have just finished taking a bath and is getting into my fresh house dress. Her tone is somewhat enthusiastic.
"Yes Nina come in!"
The wooden door move forward and the figure of our house help Nina, dress up in a white apron on top of a plain black dress came into my line of sight.
"Oh! Miss Ashley, someone is here to see you. He's at the living room waiting."
"What! Who? Did you just let somebody in without knowing the person."
I basically have an idea who it is but I just wanted Nina to confirm what's inside my head. Now I suddenly became aware of the loud beating in my chest. I was thinking he would not come anymore.
"No, I have already been informed by your father about him Miss Ashley. He told me personally that a young gentleman will come to see you tonight. He described him as a tall and handsome man with light brown eyes and he will be asking for your presence. A boy has never come to see you Miss Ash, not until tonight."
Nina's smile became wide stretching out from ear to ear. I rolled my eyes upward when she give her teasing wink at me.
"Alright Nina, I will come down in a second. Ask him if he would like something to drink."
"Oh! I already did that Miss Ashley but he said he didn't want anything and that he would wait for you to come down."
I blink my eyes a few times trying to control the tingle of excitement that ran in my knees to my toes. My mother will probably come home after midnight since it's the weekend and my father is not yet home even when he said that he will be here to greet the Prince personally.
"Ok then, let him wait for a little while."
Nina grinned before retreating from the widely opened door of my room.
I took a glance at myself in the mirror again, I am wearing a polka dot above the knee cotton dress in black and white color with half sleeves and slightly flared bottom.
My hair is already dry from the hair blower and in my feet is a soft and fluffy pink slippers. I don't see anything wrong with what I'm wearing so I decided to come out.
I came down on the stairs slowly, not making any noise in order to keep him from turning his back around. His back is facing towards me, standing and looking up intensely on the family picture we have hanging on the wall. It was taken when I was just eight years old, I still have my chubby cheeks on that age and my hair is tied up neatly on a ponytail.
"You were even more cute when you were younger."
My tongue caught in between my teeth hearing his voice. The compliment brought color to my cheeks. He sounded confident that I am the person behind his back without looking. There's no doubt that wolves have amazing senses even with their eyes close or even when they are not seeing the person, it must be because of their strong sense of smell. They said each one have a distinct scent.
"Good evening your majesty."
I stared at his broad back in a black shirt and dark jeans that hugged his thighs in a tight embrace. His brown hair looks dark in the light coming from the high ceiling. I stopped walking a few feet from him when he move and turned around. The air suddenly become heavy, I can't find the answer as to why his presence affected me this much.
"A pleasant evening to you Miss Snipes, I'm glad you came down and face me even with your parents not around."
He gestured his hands on the couches so we could both sit down and talk. Funny when I was suppose to be the one doing that since I live in this house. His superiority made my knees weak sometimes. He cleared his throat and choose to sat in front of me.
His eyes silently roamed around the clothes that I'm wearing from top to bottom.
"My parents trusted you that much your majesty, specially your father. So I don't think I have to doubt that."
"Didnt't we talked about calling me by my first name?"
His eyes squinted a little while looking deep into mine.
"Oh, it's just that I am not comfortable calling you with just your first name. It feels disrespectful."
"Not, when it's you my dear Ashley. You are going to be my fiancee, remember?"
The question is not answerable with yes or no, it's more like confirming the recent agreement that our families have sealed for both of us.
"Alright! Vincent it is. So, to what do I owe this visit?"
His lips twisted upward in a wry smile. "What took you father so long? We have agreed to meet thirty minutes ago. Where did he go? Is he still going on house to house across town and checking if everybody is alright?"
I frowned and tried recalling the words of my father before he left this morning.
"He went to our farm near south, there's an issue that needed his presence personally."
"What!? You mean he went there alone? At the South! Oh Shit!"
I winced when his mouth spit more foul words and he stood up from the couch all of a sudden, in an instant he is being sitted next to me and is holding both my shoulders shaking me gently.
"He should not go near South without the company of a warrior wolf from the Palace. His life could be in danger out there, Maleficus have seen the rogue hiding in the forest at the Southern border!"
I felt his hands almost dug into the skin of my shoulders. "He took some of the town's local police, but he. He said that he will be back before you even come and until now I haven't heard from him."
I bit my lower lip when the pain registered. His eyes widened when he realized what he is doing to me.
"Fuck!"
His hands released my shoulders instantly and he move to distance himself from the long couch that we are both sitting.
"Let me get a few warriors from the Langston Palace, we have to go and get your father. I have a bad feeling about him being this late for the important talk that we agreed to discuss tonight."
I gasp out loud, now I am feeling really nervous as to what could have happened to my Dad. He is not the one to not show up on an important meeting.
"I have to try and call him on his phone!"
I looked at the black object on the small table beside the couch where I'm sitting, and before he could make an answer I tried pressing on my father's cellphone number.
The tone rang again and again with the automated voice on the background. The subscriber cannot be reached or out of the coverage area, please try your call later. I have tried for the fourth time when I felt his hand against my shoulder.
"Stay here Ash and don't come out of the house until I came back or until the warriors get here. I am going to your father first, I mind linked some of them to stay and watch your house while the others follow me there. I hope Mister Snipes is alright. Maleficus did not see this coming."
I felt like bursting into tears, my hand trembles as I stop dialing his number and put the phone back on its cradle.
"Thank you, please help him. I don't know what would happen to us if my father gets hurt. This town relies on him."
I stared at my lap and then close my eyes tightly. I want to stop thinking since my thoughts are all nothing but fear towards losing my father.
"Stay strong Ash, I will be back and I swear that I would never let anything bad happen to your father."
I felt him stiffened before he pressed his lips on top of my forehead and walk away.
