200. Getting ready to fight
200. Getting ready to fight
Alpha King Vincent
The two traitors are now sleeping in prison, they were apprehended that day I condemned them for the crime they perpetrated. However, Alpha Xander is still in a difficult situation because the traitors would not open their mouths about the identity of their leader and where he is. We resort to intense torture to get the truth out of them with no luck. It has already been a week since I left the Langston palace and only exchanged messages with my Luna twice.
"Your majesty! I'm sorry to disturb you but something happened in prison today."
Alex hurriedly opened the door of my room without knocking. I was about to finish putting on my jogging suit to start my morning run when he arrives. "Good morning Alex, what is it this time?"
I pulled down the shirt and faced him calmly. The sweat on his forehead tells me that he went running for miles to see me early.
"We were doing our rounds on the prisoner's cell when I notice that something happened to Alkhir. Your majesty, the traitor has decided to end his life!"
All of a sudden, the calm attitude I mustered this morning vanished. I gritted my teeth in anger. "How could this happen? I told you to keep an eye on those two twenty-four hours a day!?"
Alex fell to his knees in front of me. "I am asking for your forgiveness your majesty, it was only a matter of seconds that the warrior in charge left to take a piss but when he came back Alkhir is no longer breathing."
I groaned loudly, not minding the noise that would wake up all the wolves who is still sleeping in the Western pack. "And have you investigated the cause of his death?"
"Yes your majesty, it was odd but Alkhir seemed to have taken a poison."
"Poison!?" And from where would he have acquired such poison when you all monitor the food and water that the prisoners take?"
A deep frown formed on my forehead, I would never think that someone from the warriors guarding the prison have betrayed us. Aside from Alex all the warriors there are lower ranks who cannot hide their treachery when I interrogate them. I already know them to have told the truth so who would have given him poison?
"For now we are still investigating your majesty."
"Stand up Alex, we cannot do something about Alkhir now. Let the lower rank warriors burn his body in the forest."
He stood up and bow his head. "Yes, your majesty I will get the warriors ready."
I followed him out when he turned around to exit the door. I found out that Calib and Alpha Xander are both standing near my room, they must have heard my anger and wanted to check on me.
"Good morning your majesty."
Alpha Xander greeted me first before Calib. "Good morning Alpha Xander and Calib. Come let us discuss the sad news this morning."
Alex just greeted Alpha Xander and left for the errands I have told him to do. Calib and the young Alpha followed me on the balcony of the mansion. The view from the top overlooks the distant green forest and the vast land owned by the Harger family and the Western pack. It is not as huge as the lands owned by the Royal pack however I know that the Western pack owned more business establishments in the City of the West.
"Let us take a sit and perhaps enjoy the view for a while."
I muttered without humor, Alpha Xander's mind link one of the maids to bring us a cup of coffee on the balcony while Calib sat silently. He is aware of my temper rising at this early time of the day.
"I apologize, your majesty, we will be having a difficult investigation now that Alkhir is dead."
He mentioned with a firm voice. We lost the chance with the other traitor when Sudhir cut his tongue in between his teeth in order not to tell us a single word to us. If only I could summon Maleficus here, however, I do not want to let him turn his attention away from protecting the Royal pack.
"Then we must prepare for what is about to come. we don't know who our enemy is but we have to learn what they can do and who they want to target. This is a lot of work but we must be ready at all times, just like how Maleficus saw in his vision. Let the warriors check the borders and let them not accept any guest from the humans."
Alpha Xander nodded in agreement. "I will mind linking the lead warriors on the borders now."
Calib and I listened as the young Alpha talk to the warriors in the borders and instruct them on the matter. I admire his courage and the way he carries himself at such a young age. It was different when I was his age before, Alpha Xander deserves to be praised for his dedication and bravery to defend his pack.
"The borders are clear your majesty, but the warriors are keeping their heads sharp for the possible enemies to come."
"Great! According to what Maleficus told me before I traveled back here, the attack will happen at sunset. We have just started the day, I want all warriors to stay vigilant, it could happen today or tomorrow however we must all be prepared."
We all keep silent when a helper's footstep arrives at the door and brought the coffee that Alpha Xander requested. The helper greeted all of us and now his head before he left.
"Alpha Xander, when was the last time you hunt? I suggest you get yourself filled with fresh meat and be prepared. Your wolf form must be ready as well as human strength."
He lowered his head. "I am going to hunt tomorrow your majesty, today we must plan the defense of the Western pack."
I let out a harsh breath, what if the enemies attack tonight? Then Alpha Xander will not have enough strength to fight.
"You must make sure to be on the hunt tomorrow. We will be lucky if the enemies don't come tonight."
I uttered in dismay, food is something a wolf must not take as the second priority especially if we are about to face a great war. Alpha Xander will have more things to learn growing up, after a few experiences of war he will soon realize the different strategies a warrior wolf must take to survive. The Alpha is the greatest warrior of the pack, he should be one.
As I take a look at the vast lands of the West once more, the view of the Langston Palace came to my mind. I hope Ashley and the warriors back there are alright, it was not known to everyone that I left to help the West and Beta Derek is there to strengthen the warriors more. I wonder how her training goes, did she learn more from my Beta?
"Alpha King Vincent, I am truly grateful for your help your majesty. Tomorrow I will be joining my warriors for a hunt, I promise you that."
I nodded and look him in the eyes. "You are a great leader Alpha Xander, despite your young age you have shown me your ability and power. I would hate to lose someone like you in the alliance. Please be aware of your needs as a warrior and do not wait for somebody to take care of you."
He lowers his head and drinks the cup in front of him, but after that, he meets my gaze with confidence. "I will do as you say, your majesty."
Calib smiled and look at me. "Your majesty, I am ready if we are going to face the enemies tonight."
The corner of my lips twisted in mock amusement. "I hope our warriors feel the same Calib. Please start the day with a briefing on the lead warriors about our strategy, they need to be reminded every day until the mourning of Beta Kasim's death is finished."
Alpha Xander wipe his mouth and stood up from his seat. "Your majesty, I need to start training now. Thank you for your kind words today, I will install them in my mind."
I nodded and let the young Alpha go. His training is important, we cannot stop his learning just because there is a threat of war. All the more he must learn and prefer for the battle will determine his strength as an Alpha.
"Calib, don't let Alpha Xander out of your sight. You must protect him at all costs, his life is very important to the Western pack. If the war commences, I want you and Alex to stay beside him and keep him safe."
Calib frowned and meet my gaze. "Your majesty, what about you? Aren't we supposed to make sure of your safety first?"
I shook my head. "I am more than capable of defending myself so focus on the task I gave you."
His mouth shut when my eyes glow with the Alpha command.
"Yes, your majesty."
When he bows his head, I stood up from my seat and get into the railing of the balcony. The air seemed different, unlike a few moments ago. My eye scanned the green forest from a far distance, there are movements in the tall grasses surrounding the trees.
