Chapter 95
Countless people in the post anonymously tagged her and William.
[@Ava @Mr. Morgan, is this the official announcement? When can we expect wedding candy?]
[@Ava @Mr. Morgan, you two are perfect together. Why am I so excited even though I'm single?]
[You look so much like a married couple. Quick question @Ava, you won't show Mr. Morgan our group chat history, will you?]
For a while, gossip flew everywhere about Ava's identity being Mrs. Morgan.
Ava locked her phone screen and lay down in bed, looking at the empty pillow beside her. She had a feeling he wouldn't come back tonight.
A sleepless night.
William indeed didn't come back.
Ava got up and washed as usual, then went downstairs for breakfast.
The TV in the living room was playing the morning news, replaying a failed suicide attempt from yesterday evening. She unconsciously watched it a few more times.
A woman in a red dress sat on the edge of the rooftop, her legs dangling in the air at the height of the seventh floor, gently swinging. One of her legs was in a cast.
Below, the street was packed with onlookers, firefighters, and ambulances all arriving to deploy various rescue plans.
Even from the distant camera shot, Ava could clearly see it was Sarah.
She must have gone crazy after seeing the posts on the internal network!
Ava hadn't expected Sarah would go this far to steal William away, not even caring about her own life. At that height, there was almost no chance of survival if she fell.
The police below were earnestly pleading through a megaphone, but she acted as if she heard nothing.
Then, several more people climbed onto the rooftop - the rescue firefighters. Seeing a familiar figure mixed in among the firefighters, Ava's body stiffened.
She didn't know what William said to her, but eventually Sarah was pulled to safety by him, and he held her as they got into the ambulance.
After the news finished playing, Ava was still staring at the TV in a daze.
"Mrs. Ava Morgan, if you don't eat now, the food will get cold."
Lily urged her.
Only then did Ava snap back to reality and sit down at the dining table.
Lily had also briefly watched the news just now. Not seeing clearly that it was William rescuing someone on the rooftop, she muttered,
"What could make a woman think of jumping off a building? I don't think she really wanted to die. If she really wanted to die, she would have just jumped straight down. Making such a big scene, waiting until the rescue team and ambulance all arrived - I think she deliberately staged this whole thing to get a man's attention."
The sandwich Ava put in her mouth was tasteless. She figured Sarah had probably run out of options and was using this method to keep William.
"Lily, do you think this kind of tactic can keep a man?"
Lily brought over the warmed milk and shook her head,
"I don't think so. Men are the calmest and most rational creatures. Once their heart changes, this kind of extreme approach will only make them disgusted, unless the man feels he owes her something."
Ava held her milk cup without commenting.
Today was the day for her prenatal checkup. She had already taken the day off yesterday. When she drove to Olivia's hospital, Steven's call came in.
Ava pressed decline, and the next second, he called again.
"Ava, I'm begging you, please divorce William right away, okay? You can name any conditions you want."
Steven's voice on the phone was almost crying. Ava felt a pang of bitterness. As his daughter, too, her place in his heart wasn't worth even one ten-thousandth of Sarah's.
He was now begging her to divorce William, all for Sarah's sake.
Even though she had long stopped considering him family, she still couldn't help feeling suffocated.
"Steven, do you even hear what you're saying?"
Steven's voice was extremely anxious,
"Ava, even if I have to kneel and beg you, give Sarah a way out. I know this request is unreasonable, but you two are blood-related sisters. Sarah really can't live without William. Please spare her."
"Steven, you should be talking to Sarah, not disgusting me with these words. She's the one stuck in a dead end; nobody forced her to die. You're asking me to divorce William, but have you asked if he agrees? Even if we divorce, would William really be willing to marry her?"
Steven was silent for a few seconds on the other end,
"If you divorce William first, at least it gives Sarah hope to live, doesn't it?"
Ava was so disgusted by this statement that she wanted to throw up last night's dinner.
"Steven, stop calling me. Sarah won't die. She can live without anyone. She's just using everyone's sympathy for her."
After saying this, she hung up directly, blocked Steven, and searched through her contacts. Only after confirming there were no other numbers of Steven's did she put away her phone.
In the examination room, Olivia had been waiting for a while.
Ava listened to the strong heartbeat coming from the fetal heart monitor, and her gloomy mood was gradually soothed.
"Ava, your belly is starting to show."
Carrying two babies in her belly, her waistline was naturally expanding faster than mothers with single pregnancies. She had been carefully controlling her weight according to medical advice.
Eating less sugar, avoiding greasy food, and eating large amounts of seasonal vegetables and fruits every day. Picky eater that she was, she had eaten all the vegetables she normally hated, but that were good for the babies.
"Olivia, I've decided to tell him."
Olivia's hand paused, "You've thought it through?"
"Yes."
William's attitude made her want to try harder for this little family. Recently, she could sense William's emotional shift between her and Sarah.
She didn't understand what Sarah meant to him. Her intuition told her that William's feelings for Sarah weren't love, but some other kind of attachment that was hard to let go of - definitely not romantic love.
Olivia smiled, "I'm glad you've thought it through. Whatever happens, I support you!"
Ava saw Olivia putting away the fetal heart monitor and came back to her senses,
"Olivia, can you let me listen one more time? I want to record the sound."
That pleasant heartbeat was her only comfort. Of course, she also selfishly wanted to save this precious recording to play for the two children later, or maybe even play it for him.
At this moment, her heart was full of expectations for the future.
They would have children and live a simple, happy life in SilkGrove Estates. No Sarah, just peaceful years.
Olivia indulged her, placing the fetal heart monitor she had just put away back on her lower abdomen. One body carrying three heartbeats - that was the most beautiful sound in the world.
Ava posted the recorded sound to her Facebook and played it several times before putting away her phone.
After leaving the hospital, Ava drove around the city center and went to the maternity store she had visited before. She bought a set of baby girl clothes, a set of baby boy clothes, and some small baby items. She was ready to have a showdown with William.
No matter the outcome, she would definitely safely deliver the babies in her belly.
If he forced her to have an abortion, she would die to show him.
Playing victim wasn't something only Sarah knew how to do. She just disdained it. But for the babies' sake, she could also learn Sarah's tricks.
